How much prefunding have you raised and what was the rate compared to the ICO?

Delayed? Well that gives them time to review the terms then. By the way, are the funds raised in the "fundraiser" considered investments/shares or as a "donation"?

It's all in the post, MellowYellow.

Quote
This journey started quite a long time ago, and without the support of some early, irreverent Cosmonauts, we wouldn’t be here today. Thus, the foundation will recommend allocating a corresponding amount of atoms to those funders.

First, we received a commitment for USD $300,000 from lead donors in August 2016. At that time, we didn’t know much about what the Cosmos fundraiser would look like, so we recommended that those early donors be allocated 5% of the total atom supply for their support.

Second, we received a number of contributions from pre-contributors and strategic partners. Those are also people who supported the project substantially earlier and/or are providing crucial support in other areas. We raised a total of USD $1,329,472 from these 13 individuals and entities. We did give discounts between 15% and 25% on these contributions. The total amount of atoms allocated to pre-contributors and strategic partners is 16,856,718.

The funds are never to be considered as investments or shares in equity.  They are, for the purposes of the Interchain Foundation (Swiss Foundation), a donation.

Hi guys,
Apologies that we have not been more present here. This is Brian Crain, I'm the COO of Tendermint. (And some people might also know me from Epicenter podcast.)

The fundraiser is indeed going ahead next Friday March 31. We're very excited for that. It has been pointed out that Cosmos isn't doing a great job at marketing and I'm fully aware of that.

The team we have is super developer heavy. But they are highly competent developers and with Tendermint they built something that wasn't only innovative and works, but also something that has major traction. ErisDB by Monax is built on it, Parity has integrated it as a consensus option and companies that have built PoCs based on Tendermint include SWIFT, SwissRe, Commonwealth Bank Australia, Barclays and dozens of others.

This, by the way, is also a strong argument for Cosmos. Since it is based on one of the leading consensus algorithms used for permissioned blockchains, it will make interoperability between permissioned chains and Cosmos very easy.

I'll be here regularly in the next two weeks to answer any questions. (But as was pointed out, we do have an active Slack community with over 1,000 members where quite a lot of discussion is taking place. Feel free to join that: http://forum.tendermint.com:3000/

The continuously changing of dates is unprofessional.

I know the ICO will be delayed, the team has done little to suggest they are indeed ready for ICO, I hope they would be more active here and do better promotion. The team is solid enough to deliver on their promises

So essentially, there is no guarantee you'll ever deliver. And if you desert the project after fundraising, there's nothing people can do about it because they "donated" money to you guys, so you have no liabilities.

Thats a downer. Specially after me losing alot of money with Synereo AMP.

Yes, that's correct. There are no guarantees that we will deliver.

But just a few comments on this:
1. This is the same way the most fundraisers for blockchain projects are structured. (Including how Ethereum was structured.)
2. The team does have a strong track record of building software that works and that people actually use. Tendermint is probably the leading consensus algorithm for permissioned blockchains at this point and companies that have build applications using Tendermint include Barclays, SwissRe, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, Commonwealth Bank and dozens of others.
3. You do need to be okay with that risk to participate here. It's simply the reality in this nascent field that risks are very high.

By the way, are the funds raised in the "fundraiser" considered investments/shares or as a "donation"?

Sure, I understand that sentiment. Technical flow, legal docs, etc are all ready, but we decided to delay a little to give people enough time to review the terms, ask questions and we will certainly also focus from our end on communicating and reaching a broader audience.

I think there is a lot of support for the project from the people most knowledgeable about blockchain and the technical intricacies of this technology. We raised around $1.6m through the pre-funding and this was massively oversubscribed. We could have raised 2x that without much difficulty. Of course, no guarantee how the main fundraiser will turn out, but at least for the pre-fundraiser the interest was very strong.

Now, it is quite true that we haven't reached as wide an audience as other projects. To some extent this has been deliberate, since being an atom holder will require a certain amount of expertise. We also want people committed over the long term and not simply people who hop between the latest ICOs  Wink

That being said, the point is well taken and with the legal and technical sides of the fundraiser being taken care off, you will hear a lot more from us on the marketing and communication front in the next 10 days Smiley

So how is the ICO money transferred to you?
Who is your escrow? The escrow must be delivering the coins to you when you
reached  some milestones, right?
