The early price of 3000 bitcoin is not relevant. The volume was very small.

I would not call the volume the opening 4 hour candle on Poloniex "very small". Here are the stats.in XBT

Open: 2500.00000000
Close: 29.00000000
High: 3299.99999999
Low: 2.04800000
Wtd Avg: 136.27585386
Vol: (XBT) 1744.1
Vol: (ZEC) 12.79903
Date: Oct 28 16:00

The peak 5 min candle is even more telling

Open: 1099.99999999
Close: 2000.00000000
High: 3299.99999999
Low: 1000.00000000
Wtd Avg: 2071.67289070
Vol: (XBT) 238.91
Vol: (ZEC) 0.117019
Date: Oct 28 18:50

To put the 4 hour and 5 min XBT volumes for the peak in perspective the current daily volume for ZEC on Poloniex is around 380 XBT. The high of 3299.99999999 XBT (~2.4 million USD) was established on high volumes and defined the start of a correspondingly brutal bear market that still has a lot of life left. This makes the ATH very relevant from a technical analysis point of view. ZEC remains trapped in a brutal bear market of the developers own creation.

https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_zec

Edit: The combination of the artificially slow start with a marketing campaign at launch that was more suited for a large IPO set up the early investors for a major fail.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

zCash is not going good for the past two weeks and a decrease of 40% is pretty bad for a coin (within two weeks) or a drop from 0.13 to 0.045 within a month is pretty bad, I can't predict the future but we should see a stable ZEC next year.
There is only way up ahead IMO!

Be more concrete, how? Probably people will start pumping the price and get on the level that it was before at ~0.1BTC but that is pretty hard because it is now +150% which I think can't be done within this year!?

The 0.1 bitcoin price target is quite difficult to achieve.
Zcash rise too quickly, even at the beginning of the bitcoin performance is also not like Zcash. I think it still could go up again, just let the market decide. I have some Zcash and still I hold, waiting for the best price for sell.
The market sentiments are against Zcash at the moment and the only positive thing that happened to the coin is that the developers had a good return out of their investment Cheesy . The coin is highly over priced and it must come down to $10 in the future.

It definitely did not. there was only few coins mined so far. So much to mine.   I speculate that price of ZEC will be lower at end of 2017 then at beginning. Bold speculation that predicts we are far from the bottom.

The real price of ZCash no one knows for sure! The reward for the founders is something very annoying, they financed, but little cared for the decentralization, the project is very good, innovative, but everything that surrounds ZCash today is very confusing! I'm expecting the price of 0.01 BTC!

If there is some good usage, the price will be higher.

Is there a way with ZEC to move it to cold storage and know the private key and also be able to check the balance somehow on the "blockchain"?

Sorry if this is a dumb question that doesn't make sense, but I have some ZEC on an exchange and just trying to figure out the best way to move it off of there and secure it.  I want to be able to extract the private key for sure though, without anyone else having access to it.

It's better to go to the Zec environment.

Ok thank you for the info.   I was reading that you must use Linux, which is a big negative to a lot of people out there.  I don't know why they don't have Windows or mobile wallet, but perhaps just didn't have the time and resources to develop them.  I've never used Linux and know next to zero about it, and not sure if worth it to spend the time learning it for ZEC storage. I'll have to give it some thought, but thanks for the help.

The problem is the 20% founders fee, it`s to much!
Starting to burn 19.5% of all new and old founders Zcash.

A other thing is the founders do not know shit about promoting hi-tech stuff on the internet.
Great that some geeks hyped it for the founders just before the launch, but this is 2016, you NEED a decent adwords campagne, to promote this kind of tech to the outside world.

There is non or real serious effort large scale payed promotion now.

@Zeta0S. Did it not occur to you that bitcoin and using a mixing service is already ok for what most need right now? Why is there a need for another cryptocoin like zcash? If the people really want an anonymous coin Monero is the one that they should be looking into. Zcash is another money grab just like Ethereum.

I can't find any specific use of Zcash other than the fact that it is backed up by famous people and trying to cash in with the "Anonymity" factor. Monero and Dash are good choice and offer better option than Zcash at the moment and the crazy part is they are cheaper than Zcash.

It might take time for it to be popular. So we have to be patient.
