What is the news on the refunds?
Updates going to take some long time because its not easy job for them checking all data and giving updates.

I've never received any emails from GT and I'd be surprised if I were to actually receive an email from them. Given GT is going to have to hand over all of the funds to users, (and be paid for services rendered, some other method) it's probably going to ask the courts for permission to cashout the crypto in a few years time owing to a perceived inability to make contact with various users of the Cryptopia website.

and I would imagine this is going to be a lengthy process!

I visited the Cryptopia Claims Portal and I see that I should have received an
email invitation to to register, I never got that so I have sent an e-mail
Cryptopia/Grant Thornton, lets see if I get anywhere at this stage.
All user who put their email address on cryptopia should be received an email from them to claim the remaining balance. I also got it, but since idk it's legit or not, and wouldn't risk my KYC only for some bucks of my balance on there

When you receive your this email because I receive one 12/07/2020 after this I never receive any email or any message from them can you give information when last time you have any email from them about this.

The last Email I received was from March 20th 2019 with the info Below:

An I received a automatic confirmation Email from GT yesterday in response to my query.

Dear Cryptopia Customer

We are writing this letter to update you on the progress we are making after the event that occurred on the 14th of January 2019. You may have heard various comments about this event being an exit scam but rest assured we are 100% committed to reopening the exchange, bigger and better and to continue trading.

On the 14th of January 2019 we noticed several suspicious transactions and placed our site into maintenance to prevent additional funds from being compromised as best we could. We notified local and international law enforcement agencies of the matter and our offices were locked down and the site was only accessible to a very small number of staff and law enforcement agencies. We complied with all requests so as not to tarnish the scene. As a result, many of our staff were sent home on full pay and our systems were inaccessible.

We were given access back to our site on the 14th of February 2019. This was the first time since the event that we could begin to assess the impact. We have a comprehensive plan in place to get our exchange back trading. This however is quite labour and time heavy as we are effectively rebuilding our service from the ground up again. Since having access returned we have made significant steps to resuming service.

Read only site: The read only site is now live, it shows balances as at the 14th of January 2019. Please use this site to reset passwords and 2FA credentials.
Cancel orders: We are aware of market volatility in Crypto. The ability for users to cancel their standing orders is also live now. The API is still disabled, so you will need to cancel your orders through the website.
Updates on twitter: We are continually updating our Twitter page with updates on our progress to go live. Please be wary of fake Cryptopia accounts on twitter, our official handle is Cryptopia_NZ and our page can be found here.
No new funds to be deposited: As a result of the new wallets please immediately refrain from depositing funds into old Cryptopia addresses.
There will be a rebate for customers who unfortunately lost funds. We are working through the logistics of this to ensure it is equitable and in compliance with local laws.
Our Support team is prioritising tickets for 2FA and password resets to allow our customers to be prepared for trading when we go live

If you held balances in coins that were lost in the event you will start to see Withdraws on your account for those coins. The TXID for the withdraw will not exist on the network but will detail how the coin was impacted in the event. For each withdraw you will also see a subsequent deposit of Cryptopia Loss Marker(CLM), the TXID for this will also not exist on a network but will detail the coin it represents a loss for. CLM is not a coin, it can't be traded as yet, it is just a number in the database that represents the loss for each coin for each user in $NZD at the time of the event. There are still steps to take to ensure we are taking a legal path toward reimbursement.

We will be emailing you again shortly with more details around the rebates and the projected dates for trading to be active again. Please be aware, we are hoping to achieve this by the end of the month.

On behalf of the leadership team and all staff at Cryptopia, we want to thank you for your unwavering support. Cryptopia aims to be a transparent and honest exchange, with the greatest customers in the world.

Regards

Rob (Hex) Dawson,

On behalf of the Cryptopia Management Team

I've never received any emails from GT and I'd be surprised if I were to actually receive an email from them.

When you receive your this email because I receive one 12/07/2020 after this I never receive any email or any message from them can you give information when last time you have any email from them about this.

You dont get an email from the Liquidators directly.
If you havnt got the Claim Portal email thats coming or was coming from the email adress no-reply@cryptopia.co.nz to your Cryptopia registered email Account .
Look at the Spam foulder if you received it there mine was in there also and i got it .

If you not received any email for the Claim Portal you have to write here https://cryptopia.zendesk.com/

Dont login there with your old Cryptopia loggin details , you have to create an Account there :
Quote
New to Cryptopia Limited (In Liquidation)? Sign up
Source : https://cryptopia.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/restricted?return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fcryptopia.zendesk.com%2Fhc%2Fen-us

If you created an account there then its possible that you can wwrite to the support tell them your issue and that you dont have got the email for the Claim Portal.

Every registered Cryptopia User will get an unique email speacialy for his Account with a link in the email thats only belongs for this User and Account.

If you create an account on the Cryptopia.zendesk account you can raise a ticket there.

Quote
If you’re having issues with the registration, please submit a ticket from here: https://cryptopia.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new - please note you will need to create a Zendesk account to do this, if you have not already.

I can  confirm that the liquidators are very responsive and have directed me to the zendesk
account also where I am getting some help with verifing ownership of my Cryptopia account.

Its not easy task because too many members just because of this I am feeling its going to take very long time for any response from them for next update about accounts.

Just wanted to give an short update on the email things from the Claim Portal !

From the 2.3 Millionen registered Users are around 960.000 Users that have a Balance on there Cryptopia Account.
This means if you havnt a Balance or Coins anymore on Cryptopia at the time the Liqidation started you will not receive or received an Email for the Claim Portal.
Only the Users with Coins and a Balance received the Email for the Claim Portal.

If you know you have a Balance there and havnt got for now the email you have to write to the https://cryptopia.zendesk.com/ Support.

Just wanted to let you know about.

Thats something to consider.

I have submitted a ticket to try to verify the ownership of my account.
That was about a week ago.

I'm almost certain there was some balance of some coin on my account.
Around the time of the hacking I was in the process of liquidating Shitcoins
into Bitcoin so I cant remember what was there.

all i can do is wait for a response

That's the problem most of us faced: We tried to withdraw altcoins only to have them become stuck transactions, or, we were able to sell for major coins only to find those crypto BTC DOGE LTC etc had no funds in the hot wallets that we could draw down from.

We never thought to write down what our totals were as we went.

Did you get your email or do you not received the claim portal mail ?

I wrote a ticket back in December and received an automatic response saying that they were going to be closed for vacations until the second week of January and that they were overloaded by tickets, so the estimated waiting time would be February.

In my case, I received the answer last week, so don't worry if they are slow in their response, as they will eventually answer your emails.

About the information they ask for, it is quite difficult to remember all the details, but I hope they are flexible and understand that most of us don't keep the track of all these details.

I know , and yes the its hard to remember but you need at least only 2 things right there to get the registration done .

How funds recovery process looks now? I heard people who want to  make a claim have to face very different problems?  What are the chances  to recover lost funds?

There is no Information about how the process will looks like or will be going for now.
I guess they still wait that more Users will be getting registered and also maybe that the most of the support tickets are done before they going into the next steps.
For sure the next step will be the KYC , but i really dont know how the recover of funds will be going or done.

It doesn't look like we're getting our coins back at all. Even if we pass the verification and kyc they still need to update the wallets code. You cannot withdraw coins from wallets using outdated code. The withdrawals won't go through.

The New Zealand courts are ill equipped to deal with these kind of cases because the judges know next to nothing about how the crypto currency industry works.

They'll allow these Grant Thornton scammers to make the verification and kyc extremely hard. Then they'll allow the Grant Thornton scammers to keep the old wallets code.

The scammers will then claim that the users never withdrew their coins even though they know its impossible to withdraw coins from a wallet using outdated code. They'll then apply to the courts to keep the coins and pocket the money.

all i can do is wait for a response

Did you get your email or do you not received the claim portal mail ?

I wrote a ticket back in December and received an automatic response saying that they were going to be closed for vacations until the second week of January and that they were overloaded by tickets, so the estimated waiting time would be February.

In my case, I received the answer last week, so don't worry if they are slow in their response, as they will eventually answer your emails.

About the information they ask for, it is quite difficult to remember all the details, but I hope they are flexible and understand that most of us don't keep the track of all these details.

I would say there are quite a number of tickets to go through, patience is the key, what else is there.

They will definitely have to be flexible, who would have kept a daily record of their holdings?

is anyone now keeping more of a record and saving emails for lodgements/withdrawals?
I have started to be more mindful of creating folders for exchange related corresponce in case
this sort of stuff happens again.

https://www.coindesk.com/cryptopia-exchange-currently-in-liquidation-gets-hacked-again-report

The Cryptopia exchange has reportedly been hacked again, even as it is being liquidated following a previous breach that stole NZ$24 million (US$15.5 million).

According to a Stuff report Thursday, a creditor, U.S. firm Stakenet, has been told that about NZ$62,000 (US$45,000) in the XSN cryptocurrency had been transferred out of its cold wallet on Feb. 1.

Unused since the first Cryptopia hack in January 2019, the wallet is reported to contain crypto assets worth NZ$2.7 million (US$1.97 million) in total.

Liquidator Grant Thornton New Zealand said it hadn't authorized the movement of funds and that it is investigating the incident, according to an email seen by Stuff.
Stakenet had not lost funds in the 2019 hack and had been hoping to eventually receive all its assets back.

“If this unauthorised transaction has happened under Grant Thornton’s watch then they need to explain to the users why they failed to secure ... [the] assets like they were supposed to do and how someone was able to access them,” the company told Stuff.

The news comes soon after Grant Thornton had finally started allowing former users of the exchange to enter claims to retrieve their assets

So again they got hacked. They never intended to give the users their money back.

So again they got hacked. They never intended to give the users their money back.

For the current good condition happening in the market for sure the cryptopia management doubt to return back the money of their users since if they really do that they will lose more money since the value of bitcoin and other alts pump up so best for now is not to believe on any of their statement since there's no doubt that they are thinking to flee and will not return any funds here.
