I would buy a reliable expensive miner rather than the shitty S9 even if I have to pay using paper money.

Maybe Canaan has obligations and need FIAT.

hmmmm

I am willing to use paypal and or cc and pay a service charge of 3-4%

Bank transfer to China  is a hassle  and they told us this with almost no notice.

If it was mentioned 60 days ago or even 30 days ago it would be easier to be ready.

I would need to go to my bank Well Fargo and open a business account to do it since it is not a personal transfer.
Wells Fargo is in the middle of a scandal so  I know that they will be extra careful for it to be fully reported to the Gov.

I don't need the hassle of that.

It is unfortunate that :

the gear costs more then the S9    Strike one
uses more power   then  the S9     Strike two
Plus needs special payment           Strike three

Sorry to hear that Phill but if you can negotiate with them maybe they will open something up for you.

It will be harder to do.  If they let me buy 10 with paypal  lets pretend they did this and I sell 8 to the community.

10 from China will almost certainly mean fees maybe 1K   so 10 x 880 = 8800 + 10 controller 10 x 60  = 600

so 9400 + fees 1000 = 10400 + shipping + 600 = 11000

So we are at 1100 a unit for 6th  a lot more the 1300 a unit for 11th from bitmaintech.

Really disappointed in this.

I feel you Phill but for the time being, my concern is reliability.

S9 reliability is shit compared to the S7.

For long term mining and hassle free, I prefer to pay more for reliability than shipping dead boards from time to time.

Opportunity cost should be considered.

One of our big hope just fails us.

Bitcoin and centralization has become a true issue.

Whatever they say to us. They want a bigger part of the cake.

what else can I bought ? an S9 ? No thanks... it's a piece of garbage. I would probably be better buying coins then an S9.

We gave you access to a miner but it's overpriced.

I would be buying if the price was right but it's not going to happen now.

So I emailed the sales department over there and pointed out that to "Grow the Blockchain" one must USE the Blockchain and asked for the BTC address for payment of my invoice.

I'm not holding my breath...

 Huh

I asked again to pay with paypal  and I offered to pay a fee.

here is part of my email:

Hi,

I know you answered me with a bank transfer as my only option. But I would prefer paypal.
I have had my paypal account for years and I have purchased many bitcoin miners with paypal.  My paypal account is under philipma1957@xxxxxxx
My paypal account is over 12 year old and my ebay account is over 13 years old.  My ratings are perfect.
I asked my bank about doing a transfer and I would face many restrictions and hurdles to use a transfer.
My reputation on bitcointalk.org is spotless

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=64507

A paypal invoice to my paypal  at philipma1957@xxxxxx  would be very helpful to me.
I would not mind paying a 2% or  3% fee for it to be allowed on paypal.  I know that you have allowed some bitcointalk.org members to use paypal. Please allow me to do this for the 2 Avalon 721's and the controller in order #25xxx.

I await your reply,

Philip Axxxxxxx

Seems rather odd that such a well established company would not support the payment in BTC when the machine is intended to mine just that. I can understand not wanting PayPal or CC but the lack of BTC as a payment option is really very disappointing. I can honestly say this will effect my decision to purchase from them as I am sure it will many others. I can only hope someone organizes a group buy in the future and BTC becomes an option with the middle man selling

I don't know about anyone else, but that's getting a little old. This here is the bitcoin mining hardware board, not the "everything else" mining hardware board. If we wanted anything else we'd be over there.

GPUs don't get you bitcoins, they get you something else.

And yes I know you can trade that something else for bitcoins, but by doing so you're promoting the something else at least as much as you are bitcoin. And if you don't want to promote something else, you just mine bitcoins directly - with, get this, Bitcoin Mining Hardware - and a better variety of those is what we want.

Well, just trying to "enlighten" folks who think Bitcoin mining is the ONLY mining  Tongue

BTW,I've been here since June 2011 so I know how things work around here  Cheesy

And yes I'll promote any coin that allows the home miners to mine at home  Grin

No BTC is strange and sad  Huh

Has anyone been provided with an official response regarding the lack of BTC as a payment option?
At this point this is a dealbreaker for me and I have been waiting for months to give you my money.
After looking forward to having a new series from Canaan for so long it is almost an insult but not a personal one as it is business. I could speculate but there may be more understanding if we could understand the official explanation regarding BTC as a payment option. Is it the government? Can you elaborate?

It isn't as though I cannot perform a wire transfer however we are a BTC community and there are fees and other uncomfortable items involved with a wire transfer.

I would still purchase this miner even though every day which passes leads to less reward. This is IF we have good communication.

I appreciate your time.

Transaction fees go to the pools and the pools decide to pay them to the miners. Anything else, including off-chain solutions are stealing and not the way Bitcoin was intended to function.
Make the block size set by the pool. Pool = miners and they get the choice.

Even if they do think this is the case, why do they not instantly convert the BTC over to their desired currency, even if they didn't want the overall hassle of the converting they could integrate a solution that does it for them like Bitpay.

The miner looks really good but this method of payment isn't going to help with sales.

Ok, sorry for the confusion. We have ample amounts of AvalonMiner 721. We are only accepting bank transfer right now mainly for simplicity of our new shop and making sure it is functioning well.

Is not accepting paypal or Bitcoin a blocker for you purchasing these units?

This is the latest response I received about my order confusion.  I've replied that limiting their orders to bank transfer only limits my access to immediate funds and thereby decreases the total amount of units I can purchase.  Waiting on a response to see if 'Jon' gives me an alternative.

If you would, please make it clear that the majority of the community has an issue with the bank transfer method. Smiley

I am at this stage of the game
Now note for me paypal works so I am asking for paypal.

2 units 12th   2018 + 80 fee so 2100 for 12th

which is a huge premium for gear   since bitmaintech will  sell a 12 th miner for a lot less.

Lets see idf they say yes.

Why pay $2000 for 12th when you can buy three S7, undervolt PSU (or ask people like sidehack to do it for you) and get same 12th and similar 0.22J/h vs 0.18+ for half as much $$, especially in low electricity cost areas.
I don't see a reason to buy this one, apart from, maybe, diversification.

I am also amazed by the apparent naivete of sellers: they don't know that miners prefer to pay for bitcoin mining machines with something else than slow poke bank transfer?

From what sidehack said 0.22J is very difficult. 0.24 is more reasonable.

Either way both are much worse then current GPU efficencies

pretty unlikely that their price will go up again, supply is pretty overwhelming and there's absolutely no reason that price or demand will go up along with it.
Pretty much no reason to buy this miner, but hey, it's 16nm and apparently this technology is worth buying. I'm just surprised that these guys couldn't go any lower in terms of efficiency.

When they have the S9 in stock, that is.

Interesting that Wells Fargo refused to do a bank transfer.
I wonder if that's a Wells issue (they're NOT a good or even a fairly good bank IME with them) or if it's an Innosilicon issue?

I see no real chance that ZEC pricing will go up significantly ever. Haven't seen ANY mention of ANY merchant that accepts the coin, which is the kiss of death for the long term.

The only reason I see to buy an Avalon 721 is that Caanan has a better record on reliability than Bitmain has.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!
