I am hoping the silence means that somewhere the monkeys are furiously implementing the white sheet and working on the client. But an update would be nice.

Any progress or even a plan?

Most of my waking life is spent working right now. I'll update as soon as time affords it.

When will be ready ?

It's still in the theoretical stages. There are still some issues with the paper. If you know some C/C++ you could implement some! Grin

Lol, Taco is like the most aboveboard guy I've met in crypto. He detailed a novel release plan on one of the first two pages when asked about this. I don't think the crypto community can handle the level of honesty and transparency Netcoin's release could potentially entail. We might even all reach nirvana collectively with the its release.

For those who can't read and don't care to understand digicoin's sarcasm: There is no pre-mine.

Hey everyone, I'm talking to xwebnetwork over at the forum initially set up for Netcoin. Would I be able to ask what your thoughts are on the forum design at netcoin.io/forum? We're looking at combining resources to create a more concentrated effort. There is potential to migrate the data if people feel they prefer one or the other. Please let me know what you think!

Thanks! Yes, that should be possible. I'll look into it! By the way, the point of this exercise is the evaluate whether it is worthwhile to switch to something like that given that we'll have to have a public face and all. Obviously we can expand on the format as well. Right now it seems Netcoin consists of development and community components. Both of which have announcements and discussions respectively. So it's a pretty simple way to organise all that.

We could do that too. I think the issue is not a lot of people are familiar with mailing lists. My belief is that you want to create an environment that can cater to many needs.

When this does come about, hopefully the team can try to find a point in time where there aren't 10 coins released in a 2 week time-frame, like recently. Scheduling release should be important, but certainly only considered after everything else is sorted.

If I had to guess, exchange operators are inundated and likely sick of all the request campaigns/bribes being launched at them every day now. Users, miners, traders, are also likely to be worn out at the moment and developing their ability to ignore the coin of the day.

Anyone that reads the whitepaper and follows the conversations on cryptocat, the forum, and in part here, can see that this project has a genuine spark to it.  Treat its launch like any company proud of their baby would, use the day to help set it apart.

I think you need a wiki to discuss design issues. The white paper discusses several independent ideas.

It would be better to make designs more modular. This allows for modular contributions from people with specific expertise.

Make a wiki containing a wish list of features and linking to independent articles describing the design of each feature.

In my opinion, altcoins only have competitive potential to the extent that they can absorb new ideas from outsiders. Bitcoin is too far advanced to allow this. Many altcoins don't facilitate this either, out of both (a) get-rich quick greed and (b) egoism.

Let me quote from Meni on mining pool reward schemes to illustrate what I mean:

Eligius originally used the proportional method. I explained that it's broken and suggested that they use a hopping-proof method instead.
Then they switched to MPPS. I explained that it's broken and suggested that they use a hopping-proof method instead.
Then they switched to SMPPS. I explained that it's broken and suggested that they use a hopping-proof method instead.
Then they switched to CPPSRB, and I gave up. It's not as broken as the other methods, but there's no reason to use it over the hopping-proof methods PPS, PPLNS and DGM.

Meni's background is in math and he is an expert on the above topic and wanted to make a contribution. Organize development so experts like Meni find it as easy as possible to contribute.

I see Colbee posted below. Litecoin's success has a lot to do with his leadership style.

Edit: I can assure you that a non-botched release will happen when it does, though.  I'll create the genesis block string and make binaries of the miner and qt wallet before release on an offline computer, then upload here encrypted with AES256 and a very long, strong password.  Then after a few weeks has past and it's been well distributed, the password will be revealed and everyone can begin mining at the same time.

tacotime, good luck with the coin. sounds interesting.

Maybe this was already suggested, but I didn't have time to read the whole thread. Why not do the same thing as how Litecoin was released?
