But it was not ready for production. There is supposed to be an api 1.1 that will be public, but I don't know what happened to it. So the functionality is there, but something went wrong somewhere after that. IPFS was also not included in the roadmap, as well as several other features that became implemented, but everyone is focusing on this one thing, so, let me know if that did not seem fair to you.
