Hey all! Is there a snapshot for the wallet to sync faster? When is the approx fork date? And also, why are we forking??

More questions: Is CoinExchange.io on the right block? Will the fork be supported by CoinExchange.io? Can I send my Bleutrade coins to CoinExchange with no problem??

Thx a bunch! Holding mooncoin for 2 years now.

Just to add, I downloaded the new wallet and it synced SUPER fast for three years of blockchain! I was pleasantly surprised!

I also was able to withdraw my mooncoin from bleutrade to my local wallet and WOW that was fast too! Way faster than TRX!!!

I love mooncoin I hope it gets the attention it deserves as a great coin.

The speed of the mooncoin wallet is really something. I have my mooncoin on Coinexchange. Leave it there or add to wallet?

Agreed, speed is incredible.

I don't leave anything on exchanges anymore since CoinMarkets.  Be sure to keep back ups though.

Never keep coins on an exchange.

(or assume all coins on the exchange are lost)  until you remove them.

once in wallet you control... you should always backup your wallet.dat file.

    Use a simple naming convention...

Say  you copy the file, put it on a usbkey, Naming the file:
april292018Mooncoinwallet.dat

then...   if you do another...

just change the 'date' part.

I tend to keep 3 wallet files.

    (in 3 differnt places)

ie:  3 usb keys.   one at home, one at work.. and one hiding elsewhere. Wink

all safe deposit box setups.

I put ALL of my wallets on them.

that way, if ONE dies from the fire... (thru the fireproof safe)    i have 2 backups.

if one of those 2 backups is a corrupt file....

i still have ONE more shot.

(oh and since i kept all 3 files TOGETHER, in all 3 spots) i mgith have a chance that thebad one was just a fluke..

You do NOT need to keep all 3 files.  i just  do.  (memory thing)

   3files, 3 usbkeys...33 wallets.

ya.  im crazy. Wink

CryptoDoll

I was wondering the same. I just don't want to move them to wallet if it is not 100% necessary.

PLEASE EVERYBODY, MOONCOIN GOING TO FORK SOON, planned long ago, so its just a reminder, we are at block 1234079 and at 1'250'000 it will happen. If you are not running on latest version 130900 it might be that you lose some mooncoins.

Scenarios:

Terrible scenario:
What if I still have some mooncoins in an old wallet.dat, after the fork and want to still use them in new version?
Technically possible, but not so easy, because usually the wallet doesn't even want to start correctly because the surrounding network collapsed. Once you got into the wallet (assuming you use windows wallet), then export the private keys using the commandline exportprivkey "address". Usually the wallet balance is scattered, meaning you will need to export all keys using commandline tools. In this whole scenario you are screwed, because people that can do these kinds of things are not freely available and this scenario is very time consuming to resolve. However, what you could also do is just make sure your old wallet software is shutdown, backup and copy your old wallet.dat to the new wallet software and start it. Wait for it to sync, all should be fine. :-)

Good scenario:
You have new wallet installed and you are monitoring the block count and you decide to stop all mooncoin transfers before the fork. And hold still.. Let the network resolve itself, you can up the confirmations for the first couple of days for receiving mooncoin. Watch the official channels and you should be fine in this scenario.

Gray scenario:
you found out pretty late that you need to upgrade your wallet, and you need to resync the wallet in full before the fork and you are still syncing during the fork, well in this case just dont move mooncoins around, and wait.

All in all we have a way forward for all scenarios, so just upgrade to latest and that's it. Mention to your fellow mooncoiners, thats all we can do.

Cheers!

I don't want to move my Mooncoins in any wallet, what if I keep my Mooncoins on Coinexchange? Why we are forking Mooncoin? Do we get any other coin or its just a routine fork?

wow.

       noone listens.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR COINS ON AN EXCHANGE>  EVER

   NO EXCHANGE.  NO COIN.

EVER.

With a fork, that means update.    with an update your coins will be STUCK in that exchange until they update.  (IF they do so)
if they dont, you LOSE.

You can not recover those lost coins.  as THEY control the keys.

Im getting tired of saying this.

Thats right.

Withdraw your coins from exchange to your upgraded wallet before the fork to be safe. The fork will happen at the block 1.250.000. Current progress of the blocks can be followed at: https://chainz.cryptoid.info/moon/.

Hashrate is also rising so the fork can happen faster then expected.

Not only for a fork but if you want to make sure you stay the owner of your coins (and this goes for every other crypto) you need to be sure that you control the private keys like you do with a wallet.dat file on you own computer.

Exchanges are not wallets for long time storage because the exchange is technically the owner of your coins (the wallet/deposit address) is not your own.

Be in control and make sure you keep coins safe on your own system with good passwords and regular backups

The fork was planned by the community in 2017.

The 0.13.9 wallet is being tested during several months, no issues were reported.

Why do we need it and what the new codebase (0.13.9) brings to Mooncoin?
1) it's going to solve issues with difficulty readjustment algo (currently there are pauses between blocks, normally 1 block time should be 90 seconds)
2) fast syncronising from scratch
3) SegWit
4) the up to date LTC codebase (MOON is based on LTC)
5) reduction of mining rewards to let MOON stay at BTC markets (approved by the community in 2017).

Why do you need to backup your wallet.dat?
Your wallet.dat with private keys = your coins. If you don't save it on an external device, you always risk.

If you keep your coins at exchanges, again you always risk. You don't control your coins. Exchange admins can make decisions which can affect your coins.
People reported more than a month ago that Coinexchange.io was already on a new 0.13.9 wallet. You can always ask Coinexchange if you have doubts.
Also they publish actual Github link (which source code their wallets use) on a page of each coin they have listed.

You can visit https://chainz.cryptoid.info/moon and select 'Network' to see how many peers use 0.13.9 and how many peers didn't update at the moment.

You can send your coins from Bleutrade to Coinexchange with no issues if you do that now.
Remember that Bleutrade delisted MOON and is going to remove a wallet shortly. You don't have too much time left, only several days to withdraw your coins from Bleutrade. It's never safe to keep your coins at exchanges though.

Is there a rich list? Couldn't find it in block explorer

I've read somewhere this coming fork will address the issue with some not returned coins, where can I check the total coins to available after the fork?
