Leaker says Paypal announcing adoption of Bitcoin this month: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1jn974/imminent_paypal_to_accept_bitcoin_official/
It'd be almost like if Microsoft would promote Linux.

if you can't beat them join them, or die.

I think its fair to say that msft (and appl) have combined 'beat' linux, at least in terms of home OS.

It's more like VHS vs Digital downloads. So maybe PayPal wants to make a move to become Netflix.

I'm not sure if Paypal / Ebay is so forward looking.

The cynical me suggests I would go borrow all kinds of money and sweep up all the bitcoins I can find if I really do have the inside scoop.  After all, no one would know this 'insider' trade and there's no criminal punishment either.

PayPal has hinted about this in videos months ago, the logic for a such a move is sound, the guy talks better than I would be able to fake about PayPal and lines up with what has been happening recently, he is offering to take wagers and post pic of access badge, and Vladamir knew about the ETF before it was announced and he has started his Country Gold Parity parties again......

Fuck it, I think it's happening. My fiat is on the move...

If PP is even contemplating this, they and the people "in the know" would have been buying BTC since it began.  It is not as though SEC would care to get involved over insider trading, as SEC doesn't govern BTC.
Any sign of that buying happening...?

Part of it has to be demand from SD buyout.  I'm more curious as to why it fall all the way to 65.  Whoever that dump the coins made a not so wise move given the SD buyout.

I liquidated a lot of coins at 100 for a down payment of a house.  Damn my gf if that's true (she's the one who wants a house, I'm more than happy renting).

On second thought, I agree with you.
http://www.bloomberg.com/video/paypal-sees-20-billion-in-mobile-transactions-WlokACTBRterdjHAJGNB6w.html
It seems that PayPal may be just conscious of the future and will try to adopt it early.
Benefits of being a flexible private company and not a stubborn government.

If paypal adpots BTC we might see a huuuge price jump.

If paypal adopts Bitcoin they are a whole lot smarter than I gave them credit for. I was actually expecting Western Union to do it before them (but not soon). If Paypal accepts Bitcoin we will see a 10-fold increase minimum the weeks following the official announcement. Would be totally crazy and unexpected.

But crazy and unexpected is the middle name of Bitcoins history thus far, hasn't it? Wink

re. paypal rumor:

a) You have to trust someone that breaks trust of company he works for and likely confidentiality obligations. And for what?

b) How is a company like PayPal going to "accept" business in bitcoin currently? Paypal has to consider the legal ramifications of doing this in every country in the world where it operates, and where the legality of bitcoin is not yet certain.

c) It would be much safer for PayPal to invest money in a company like BitPay to hedge its bets going forward but to separate its current business from a speculative investment in a 'currency' of questionable legality.

d) Do people really believe random rumors posted on internet message boards? Use your head!

Somebody like Western Union is WAAAAAAY more likely to do something like this. Wu is all about moving money from point A to point B, while conducting exchange in the middle if there are different currencies. Paypal is getting money from point A and B, putting it inside of itself, and hoping nobody ever takes it out since it can be moved around within itself for cheap, Liberty Reserve style.

A post on reddit from an unknown poster doesn't qualify as a "rumor" in the sense of the maxim.

Granted, the question is whether the future is now.

At the end of the day untrue "rumors" won't sustain any increase in price. They'll just increase volatility which is good for trading but not for the long term prospects of Bitcoin.
