usd on polo, or usdt, is a tiny market. it's hardly even worth mentioning. it was about 4 million dollars equivalent over the last twenty four hours. you can't base much on that volume compared to other places.

I wonder if people know they aren't trading USD there but USD Tether?

This is bad for everyone involved in crypto. The disgusting part is that some people act amused. Sad

Cheerful would be my attitude, and what can be more important than maintaining cheerfulness in the midst of a gloomy task?

seriously i dont even blame bitfinex, i blame everyone who is such a moron to keep his coins on exchanges. even after we had so many hacks meanwhile...

totally agree with you man... who leaves coin in an exchange after all these problems. Exchanges are made to be in --> out
Unless you want to be an active trader... which might not be the best idea after all....

Just think though, if you rush in and out, who is going to be your counterparty?  volatility all over the place.

You couldn't pay me to send Bitfinex any amount of bitcoin or dollars.

BTC5K is a lot of coins to be intimidating with. Can't imagine an idiot handling $3.7MM

Well, he's deposited that many coins at Finex so... yeah.

How much money do you make trading when the exchange goes tits up and accidentally all the coins?

People need to learn the easy way, from the mistakes of others, as opposed to actually sticking their hand in the fire.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins. I mean, I hate to sound like a broken record, but do we really need to keep learning this lesson the hard way?

I guess the thing is: why would Bitgo not sign when things look normal?  If they hadn't installed proper "danger signals" that would stop automatic processing, an automated 2-of-3 is as bad as a normal hot wallet.

agreed, and think about why those people are storing coins on an exchange ... to earn interest from others who are shorting the bitcoin price

zero shits given for anyone that loses their coins on bitfinex ... fuck off and never come back to bitcoin
