Shorting = borrowing coins to sell them, in the hopes that the price per coin will be lower when you have to give them back. A "short sell" is to sell an asset (BTC) you don't own, you just have borrowed it to sell it because you anticipate the price to go down.
That's extremely dangerous with BTC, because the price has the potential to double multiple times very quickly, and thus you can face huge losses by shorting.
That's what "shorting" means, but in these forums many people say they are "short" when they have sold coins, which is not correct. What can you expect in a forum where most of people thinks that ROI is a synonym for break-even....
"Shorting" is that you own any asset that you don't need, but you decide to not sell it and purchase bitcoins instead. you really don't know much about the market..I can tell lmfao

The two last time the price stay in a short range for few days (around 130 and around 200, it was the preparation for the next stage). And it looks like we are gonna stay around 640 (stamp) for a while.

When this gets into the dictionary , it will be a great day for Bitcoin

Cup and handle again on Bitstamp?
Begins to look a lot like it yes, plus new money coming in. Next 24 hours will be very important i think. I think a lot of you underestimate this factor. I see on the Internet a lot of people who ask how to buy Bitcoin. So people inside don't let the price fail because they think coins are cheap, and people on the outside want to get in because they think coins are cheap. And it's makes sense because there is no way the Senate hearing is already priced. Now I am pretty convince that this was only a correction (and that's mean was is coming gonna be epic).

I'm not convinced of this break out, yet. Very low volume.
Me neither, just sold other 1/12 so i have sold now 1/6 avg at 608 (stamp) in this rise. Just in case, because I don't have any wealth other than coins and now little bit usd. I think it's a bit too erratic and the volume/fluctuations are just not high/low enough to worry about. I sold a few just under $600 at BTC-e to give me some $$$ to play with.

I just received the weekly newsletter from plus500 (see signature for more info) which states that the most traded commodity the last 3 days has been Bitcoin. (Beating out both Gold and Oil.) Screenshot of the newsletter: http://imgur.com/UC9qTUPThink this shows just how large the Bitcoin interest is right now. At Plus500 you can make instant deposits with credit cards so there is no waiting on money to hit the exchange. This is probably a good indicator that there is a huge amount of money on the way to the real exchanges as well.

Historical highs and lows compared using rpietila's trendline:
Date Price / Trend = x% (Factor) Lows 2011-11-17 1.99 / 2.05 = 97.11% (1 / 1.03) 2012-08-19 7.58 / 13.90 = 54.52% (1 / 1.83) 2013-04-16 50.01 / 74.30 = 67.31% (1 / 1.49) 2013-07-05 65.42 / 129.59 = 50.48% (1 / 1.98) Highs 2011-06-08 31.91 / 0.67 = 4780.29% (1 * 47.80) 2012-01-05 7.22 / 2.87 = 251.38% (1 * 2.51) 2012-08-17 15.04 / 13.71 = 109.67% (1 * 1.10) 2013-04-10 266.00 / 71.22 = 373.48% (1 * 3.73) 2013-11-19 900.98 / 333.86 = 269.87% (1 * 2.70)
This looks interesting - but what does it mean? The average bubble is 3.12 2.7 times the trendline > x <- c(47.8, 2.51, 1.1, 3.73, 2.7) > summary(x) Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. 1.10 2.51 2.70 11.57 3.73 47.80Edit: fixed typo.
