Often used to find it was the capacitors that popped over time. I had a head unit refurbished once, retouched all the solder joints etc.
Dude, If I had a dime for every electrolytic I have swapped out. That is the second law of electronics troubleshooting; it's always a capacitor. In this particular case, however, I believe it was deteriorated thermal pads under the Vregs. When I got the mechanical reassembly going I checked and the tabs were short to ground when I used the old pads, glad I checked. |

I did not manage to get very many photos before relatives, champagne and the good food overwhelmed me I am sad to say.
