what is happening around Bitcoin businesses ? Butterfly Labs website also mysteriously went down and left so many customers who pre-ordered millions of dollars into their new generation hardware empty hands...

Seems to have been just a temporary glitch of their webserver (and a bit of healthy paranoia).

BFL's website often goes offline, or is so slow that it barely works or is replaced by a Cloudflare page

http://dorktech.com/where-did-butterflylabs-go/

Butterfly the 2nd version of MTgox, and empty website:

http://www.butterflylabs.com/

Quote
3/1/14 – Popular Bitcoin ASIC hardware/software company ButterflyLabs has mysteriously disappeared Friday evening. The company was just getting ready to roll-out their 600/GH and 300/GH cards that many individuals and companies have pre-ordered as early as 8 months ago. Their website currently just shows an empty blank white page at the moment. Although upon deeper digging, some of their directories still exist on the server. Also, the ButterflyLabs Twitter page is also not showing any new signs of activity. Does this mean that ButterflyLabs is also going to leave us as well?

This comes just a few days after MtGox, a highly used Bitcoin/USD trading platform, went down due to mistakes made in the security of the platform.

What is next for Bitcoin? All I can say is that we are in for a bumpy ride – so strap on your seat-belts and hold on.

(I will be updating this page if any new information comes in. Feel free to comment if you know what is going on. Our official Reddit comment thread is located here)

Maybe they had all their coins at empty gox?

ButterflyLabs has disappeared?
Did anyone notice the huge jump in network hashrate in the last day or two? I mean HUGE! (It spiked from 27,000Th/s to 35,000Th/s yesterday)
I wonder if they cut and ran with all the new kit, and are mining with everyones preorders?
Wouldn't surprise me one bit, after how they played the last generation.

Jorge they filed for bankruptcy protection.

Indeed it seems so.  That is very bearish  Wink since it means that there will be more press releases from Mark.  The last two appear to have resulted in permanent drops of ~350 CNY at Huobi...

*artificial pumping = fiat shortage on Gox made people buy back coins after the April13 bubble and pumped the price in all Markets

*This* worries me.  I have thought about it before.

It happened , I can tell you for sure me and all the people I know moved from Gox this way (~3000 coins @ 80-100 USD/BTC)

after moving we decided to hold until we get the same price on Stamp,
meanwhile other people decided to do the same forcing the price up in Gox and consequently in other exchanges

maybe this whole december rally was caused by Gox fiat insolvancy

I wonder, who else watch this thread constantly even though they only hold and buy, never sell ?

That would be me Smiley

I stare at charts because it gives my obsessively analytical mind something to do.

EDIT: it's not fair to say I never sell. I do spend. And then buy some more. And sending micro-donations to all sorts of people has become my hobby  Cheesy
Please send a donation to this campaign: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/weed-like-to-talk or send some to me too. Thank you!

yay weed! donated  Grin
Good. Weed like to talk! I started a bitcointalk topic on the campaign - [Weed Need to Talk]Donate to start a wave of cannabis seminars in Europe: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494125.0. Sorry for the off topic.

China was a big contributor to the last rally , but that doesn't change the fact that the above happened
have you heard the term "positive feadback" ?

Gox price was going up (people  buying and moving) --->  price goes up everywhere else (including china) --->

people who recently moved from Gox hold  ---->     Gox price going up (more people  buying and moving)

this is not about cheap coins man
this is what happened

The fact that MtGOX filed for (and got?) "bankruptcy protection" rather than "bankrupcty" is very depressing.

If I understand correctly, it means that no one will be looking into MtGOX books and files for months, maybe years.  We will not know what really happened, as Mark will be free to continue lying as he has in the past.  Any other people who may also have been involved in the loss will walk away free and unsuspected.  The police will not be called to investigate the "theft", and MtGOX clients will probably get no additional information from Mark that could help them track down the thief.  We will not know whether any other exchanges of bitcoin-based enterprises were involved, or may have fallen into the same trap.  Tongue

By the way, I applaud all the other exchange owners who, realizing the importance of public trust for the survival of bitcoin and hence of their business, have promptly disclosed their financial positions, and proved that they do own enough bitcoins to cover all the BTC account balances of their clients.  I am anxiously waiting for the reports of the external auditors that they have hired to check their books.  Wink <---[ note the smiley ]

1) Could you explain how the authorities, namely the US government, having over a million BTC is extremely bullish?

I don't envision this a reality but it can be filed under "could explain bullishness":
http://rt.com/usa/us-postal-service-bitcoin-780/

BTC is a currency, as the U.S. gov has admitted. They can keep seized money and/or spend it:

Jorge they filed for bankruptcy protection.

is this true?

I thought they filed for bankruptcy.

I don't know Japanese law, but I have seen a Canadian company go through a bankruptcy protection. Some people at the company were fired, some quit, some stayed... Within 2 years they were back to business as usual. Admittedly, I watched this from the outside, I have no idea of the internal workings of the procedure.

In the U.S. there are various types of bankruptcy ("Chapters") some of which protect assets while a company reorganizes. Of course Japan is likely different but may be similar. I am under the impression Gox may be under an "asset protection" type of bankruptcy which could explain why he continues to say there is hope he can restore things. I have been trying not to be obsessive about Gox news though because so much crap swirling around it.
