Wow.  This is extremely bad news IMHO...

Trezor Adopts Swiss Travel Rule Protocol for Private Crypto Wallets

https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2022/01/27/trezor-adopts-swiss-travel-rule-protocol-for-private-crypto-wallets/

The Swiss, from the best most private banking system to the worst nanny state oversight in the world in one generation.

How sad.

Yes, I've noticed similar tendencies with ProtonMail (based in Switzerland), trying to bait paywall features in exchange for additional user details (and connection meta data), as if doxxing the French climate activist wasn't enough.

That case certainly sucks and incurred the wrath of many Protonmail users.
At least he was informed in advance of the request by French Police enforced by Swiss Courts.
His encrypted email account was not compromised the contents not revealed.
His VPN activity was not available, Swiss law does not require VPN logs to be kept.
There is a ProtonMail onion service for those requiring increased security.
You can sign up (pseudo) anonymously and upgrade the account without revealing personal details by paying with Bitcoin.

ProtonMail is reasonably good compared to the offerings (and security) of the major email services offered in N America, Europe and Australia, who hand over your unencrypted data to law enforcement without any court warrant or to any commercial business for a fee. However ProtonMail have to operate in the real world bound by ever increasing draconian surveillance laws.

Trezor going down the toilet with their Swiss Travel Rule Protocol.

In other news Bitcoin keeping us guessing as to the next move in price.

After careful consideration of recent feedback, we will be removing Address Ownership Proof Protocol (AOPP) in the next Trezor Suite update. The relevant pull request has already been submitted on GitHub.

I am glad that Trezor came around quickly, and their blogg said that they had been contemplating integrating the AOPP feature for a year without any meaningful opposition, and that was part of the reason why they had implemented such feature... and surely the great amount of blow-back help them to quickly reverse themselves (and their likely mistaken implementation of such AOPP).  Good news.. Good news... Even though I had not really understood what AOPP was, the recent discussion of that topic was causing me to consider if I should discontinue using Trezor and to go to products that did not uses such feature.

I had always liked Trezor's products and their various practices and policies..  and sure, it is not bad to have a bit of competition out there, too... and maybe even improvements upon several of the offerings.. and even greater variety of offerings.. so we can decide.. even though any one usage might not be definitive or permanent.. and sure there is some sadness that some amount of technical awareness will advantage you, including if governments (and even private industries) start to go in various kinds of higher level attack modes regarding internet access or the multitude of ways that our privacy and access are being compromised, then the more technically educated people are going to have quite a few advantages in those areas, too.

Another thing is that the awareness of the existence of this AOPP issue (and negative publicity regarding how it might end up in some of the software code) has caused some attention to make sure that various supposed "privacy oriented" wallet services are affirmatively removing that kind of code from their products (surprised that some other wallets had that AOPP code in their products, too).

Seems disingenuous as fuck to me.. oh $800,..... whoops..... yeah right? ... also disingenuine especially given some of your other nonsense posts and your ongoing passive aggressive behaviors... and even if you are recently seeming to try to present yourself as some kind of supposed reasonable and balanced poster who just happens to be more negative about the BTC price..

.. yeah right.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

You won't even come close to standing behind your claims... .. and just keep throwing variations out there and hoping something sticks.. like any good soothsayer wannabe.   Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

That CME Bitcoin January Futures contracts got closed today, right?
Wouldn't be too surprised if BTC volume will magically grow by about the amount that was needed to keep the price lower in the last two days via selling.
I'm tempted to start trading every end-of-futures-contract, which should be one of the most successful ways to end this obvious shitfuckery  Cheesy
