Seems the chain spammers have finally run out of money, or I guess achieved their goals. Just to remind everybody again, the solution to high fees, is high fees. I never really cared about the mempool fees until I started to running a lightning node. Now I keep a tab open at all times to monitor the mempool when I'm using the computer. January was quite a rough month, considering the mempool fees. I had two channels force closed, costing me roughly 200k sats.

I agree with the first statement but not the second. Why would you ever consider trading back to fiat? I would rather see Bitcoin drop to 0 before trading back to fiat.
buying nice things ? I'm pretty sure many are getting back quite some life changing amount and they will consider cashing out a part for ... see above I prefer to buy things i need over things that are nice. For now, i'm satisfied with my current life, so no real need to change it. At least not this early that's exactly what I'm talking about: for some it's not early anymore and they are sitting on a 50x or 100x and btw buying things you need is nice as well... isn't it? Nope. Not in my understanding. When i don't need some thing, i likely wouldn't buy it. So it's not quite nice if i have to... That's also the reason why i actually repair most of my stuff if it breaks. I just don't want to buy replacements for stuff many people would just throw away if malfunctioning. I like to live on a small environmental footprint, too. Regarding special hobbies, i am open to the more "nice things" side of purchases, but i usually think at least twice about these. #GN I had times in my life when I coudn't get the stuff I needed (basic things, even food). So being able to buy stuff that I have to buy is very nice for me. from what I know, everyone's lives experience from childhood to adult wasn't same. Some didn't had the luxury of enjoying what they are opportune to be capable of today and for such set of persons they really want to enjoy now what they were unable to while growing up due to their weak financial background back then. but this attitudinal way of thinking may be different to some other person that had a beautiful childhood of having access to almost everything nice that made life beautiful for him. The taste to mostly get nice things than just only the things you feel needed will differ between the individual's.

So looking into the future when mempool fees are consistently higher due to more users, how negative do you think that will be for the LN? I mean the whole point of it is so that we can still have cheap transactions. I really know very little about the theory, or current practicality of it, at the moment as I just haven't had the time to get into it.

Just remember they are an exchange an the coins are not yours. But they give you access to their LN wallet you can send or receive and not do any bs with maintenance I keep around 350 usd worth of btc on that exchange just incase I need to do LN.

Another reason to avoid CEX There is really no extent CEX will not go to in their collaboration with the authorities. Here is UK regulators requesting for information about wallets users of CEX withdraw to, with special emphasis on self-custodian wallets. This is indeed another reason CEX should be avoided. https://twitter.com/BitcoinNewsCom/status/1755928612564246565

I understand that you can just use a third party, but, if it's such an issue to open close channels when fees are high, is that actually going to be a problem? Or are these issues only relevant to the small lightning players while perhaps someone like Kraken they high fees don't matter.

Right. Sideways. Again... Boring AF. Come on, Bitcoin, do something! OK, so I gave my nephew my Trezor (after wiping it clean) as a gift for becoming a coiner. Yay! He's bringing mushrooms next weekend. He says I'll like it. My coins now reside on a teeny weeny piece of paper and some neurons in my brain. It feels odd, powerful, scary. I know they're there, but the inability to physically verify is affecting me. I need to buy a h/w wallet. What to buy? Maybe the Trezor Safe 3? Probably that. Alright. Got to run. Keep posting, brothers. I sense A{Y,T}H is around the corner. Buy when you can, sell when you must, NYKNYC (my nephew got this!), HoDL, the usual stuff.

BitBox is quite nice, if you peep it. Will check it out, thx. I've grown fond of the Trezors over the years (the Model One was probably the only one in existence at the time), but I see now there are so many to choose. Got to be standardized, so I can recover my seed, etc., and open-source for obvious reasons.
