Thanks to Homer for posting a wonderful image from Switzerland, that looks amazing and I would have loved to see it for myself.
I actually planned to stick around for most of the night to see some of this matter raining on earth.

But the missus issued a NOTH (Notice to Husband) yesterday that the hedges needed trimming and that the weather is only ideal now. So I trimmed the hedges (possibly one too many retrospectively..), got wrecked and decided I'd have to let that aurora stuff be aurora stuff for tonite and go to the bed early.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that a mole cricket had built it's 'loudspeaker-tunnel' roughly 2m from my bed in the garden and was trying to find a mating buddy until about 3:00 in the morning..
If you never heard a mole cricket, make no mistake it's not at all like that peaceful and calming chirping of regular crickets, it is more like an utterly annoying alarm clock and thanks to the amplifying structures they build into the ground it's not like an alarm clock on your bedside table but like one right in your head.

I am now into my 4th5th cup of coffee and still trying to decide between flooding the tunnels of the little mofo with water or just help him installing tinder for crickets to get things done for good. In any case this aggression will not stand for another night mancricket!

ChartBuddy gambling game, where you can bet on "higher" or "lower" within the 1st 5 mins of a ChartBuddy post.
That sounds fun Smiley Put me down for "higher" for the rest of eternity Tongue
you already beat the game  Cool
Does anyone here have historic Bitcoin price data? I can find daily data, but hourly or even every 5 minutes would be better. The only hourly data I've seen in the past wasn't available for free.
The reason I'm asking: Your statement made me wonder if it's true. It always feels like Bitcoin drops more often than it goes up, but when it goes up, it's usually faster than it dropped. So I wonder if it would drop say 60% of the time, and go up for 40%. Or maybe I'm wrong, and in that case it would be nice to know for sure.

I looked at the sky around midnight, but unfortunately I didn't see anything, luckily the weather is good and there are almost no clouds, so maybe I'll have more luck tonight. In any case, very nice photos Smiley

The aurora has an ebb and flow to it so you might just have to be more patient (if you have the time).  The fact that there were no clouds and we're in a new moon phase should have made for awesome viewing though.  I bet it was there; maybe just not when you looked?  Hopefully tonight!

Overcast last night driving home from casino didn't see jack, bummer.

You probably saw enough brightly-coloured, dancing lights at the casino anyway Smiley
Maybe tonight!  They're still active and the sun unleashed another X class flare as well from the same spot so it's not over yet.

Yeah it was cloudy here as well.  I tried for hours to catch a glimpse through the cracks - it was reminiscent of trying to see the recent the eclipse; in that case I succeeded but only for a very brief moment. The weather gods hate me.  I know people in New York who were able to see it but they were near Rochester - apparently the best time in the north-east was between 10 and 11 if you had clear skies but I also saw reports of viewings just before sunrise this morning in New York.  I guess you have to be patient, watchful and lucky enough to get clear skies.  In saying that, the event of 2003 was so bright and long-lasting, all you had to do was look up and southward - that aurora lasted for hours and I spent the whole time on the roof at work (I was on nights).  If anybody asks, I was inspecting vent pipes.

edit:  If anyone is awake in Dunedin, NZ right now, the aurora is quite visible there and it looks like mostly clear skies.
