Barcelona are planning to sign another experienced centre-back after hearing about Pique's retirement decision.

The rumoured player is the 31-year-old defender Inigo Martinez and Barcelona are thinking of making the move in January. He is actually a regular player in Athletic Bilbao's starting eleven now. However his contract is expiring next summer as well. I don't think that it would be difficult for Barcelona to convince him to sign for them in this condition. Pique's annual salary is €29.5m as far as I know. After his retirement Barcelona want to take advantage of the financial relief to go for Bernardo Silva but I don't think they'd get a positive answer from Manchester City.

The hell, what's going on with Barcelona, I found an article where Barcelona want to sign this player since 2017 [1], but now they're still want to sign him. Honestly he doesn't play very well as center back, just an average player only... also he's already old too. I think lack of money is the reason why they're choose to sign an old player and doesn't have enough popularity. Inigo Martinez is from Spain too and he's a close friend with Pique, maybe there's an internal agreement where Pique recommend Martinez.

I don’t think that he is a top-class defender, to be honest. He is good but not up to the standards that maybe some Barcelona fans expect him to be.

Yes, he is already 31 years old. But at the same time, I also get why Barcelona wants to sign him.

World Cup ends in December so I think there is no reason to change the period of the transfer window. I still think we are gonna have some good transfers but not much of notable players. There are lot of players whose contract expiry is getting near and possible that other clubs might contact them and hopefully we will be able to see some good transfers.

Not any rumor yet about transfer window period change after World Cup held on not habit time, actually World Cup play on June or middle years but this time have to play at the end this years or near close with window January transfer open. I think could be great opportunity with World Cup ended at the end December and few days later window transfer open, have bigger chance for scot talent watching their interested player and have top perform at World Cup with their national team.

Some players have contract over at the end this season or June 2023 still not have new negotiation with their club about extended contract or not like Messi. I think many player have the only one focus with their national team and want to get great achievement at World Cup.

I don't think that there is any need to even discuss about a possible manager change for Barcelona in the near future.

Because Xavi is already a good choice for the team actually. I know that they aren't successful in the Champions League still. But this isn't a problem that they cannot leave behind. I hope Xavi will consider top center backs, Iñigo Martínez seems not strong enough. I think he is still an average center-back, he won't add an instant impact to improve Barcelona defense line. I am sure Milan Škriniar and Niklas Süle are better options for Barcelona, they are stronger and have the ideal height as central backs. Nunez is performing worse than expected.  Compared to Haaland at the beginning of the year, Nunez was completely overshadowed in the EPL.  Liverpool, on the other hand, is more lonely on offense than last year.  Salah saves them in today's match.  In this case, firing Kloop will only injure Liverpool.  I think they should be more patient.

Pique retiring will definitely leave a space in the back for regular starting defenders. It is necessary and important to find a replacement immediately for the departing player. Barcelona opting for Inigo Martinez is a good option to replace Pique in the heart of the Barcelona defense and for a club like Barcelona it will be difficult to say No when they come calling especially at this stage of his career.
