500 USD is a small amonth for crypto world nowadays.
I would risk to increase my money. Because you can buy only less than 0.2 BTC or less than 2 ETH for this amonth and it wouldnt satisfy me sth like 10% 20% increase. I would definetely try like more risky coins or maybe an ico.

yes that is a small about but i think still you have opportunity to invest such a small amount in trading altcoin, where you can find such coin whose price is low but still they have good potential to increase.

Since $500 is kinda small amount for long term i would invest half of it on bitcoin and half with other altcoins with short term to gain more bitcoins. Bitcoin is for long term so if you trade you will gain more.

With the current price of bitcoin that can be considered as low amount but still that can be considered as big amount already for those people that are needy.

Investing to ETH is also a good choice but with crypto everything can be risky and has a chance to make money.

Why you need to go for altcoins for long term investments. Altcoins may fall drastic in near future and that is the reason crypto currency professionals are not suggesting going for long term investments with altcoins. In my opinion  $500 must be a decent amount of capital even for long term because I am always focusing only with bitcoin investments.

As of now, investing $500 into bitcoins and leaving it for years definitely will give very big returns. So, never call $500 is a small investment nor investing into altcoins for long term holding.

I've been HODLing some ETC myself. It's sitting around 18$-20$ and I expect it to see a pump similar to what Litecoin just had where it'll reach at least 50$ if not 75$-100$. Defiantly an investment to be made.

Invest on BTC. I see that it's growing every day. I have to invest as much bitcoins as I can, and sell it when the time is right and profit is big enough. It's just like I'm playing in stock exchanges.

What about hard fork problems?
I read an article that there will be a hard fork, a problem about Bitcoin Unlimited and Bitcoin Core. This problem makes me hesitate to invest bitcoin.

I would split it to different cryptocurrencies because I'm not a type to hold altcoin on long term, because there might be a chance to buy on the lowest price while you sell it so you can get your profit faster than hold it for long term.

$500 for me its enough in crypto because there is many coins that have potential to help us to make big profit like you said. i am proof it to myself and i think every people can do this with their own way. but we need to search a potential coins and make our analyze so we can know what coin is the best for our invest.

NEO or OMG or QTUM or a combo of all 3

The reason I mention the last one : Qtum

If i had an extra $500 on my wallet then i would diversify like this
$150 on Bitcoin
$150 Ethereum
$150 Waves
$50 on ARK
With a portfolio like this you will have a nice profit in a few months, you always must have bitcoin in your balance, you never know when it is gonna make a big pump. Ethereum is more like a long term investment, just like Waves.
Ark will probably rise in the next weeks.

Wow that is an amazing story of converting an 500$ into 10000$. Can you tell us and share your experience in which coin you had purchased and at what levels . When did you sold out and at what rate. At present Ripple, ETH and ZCASH are on boom and making some easy profits form it is very easy. So you can buy and diversify among this coins and get out quickly with quick profits.

A tip would be to not follow the market but anticipate the market:  look for the coming upside. Once a coin rewards you then you have a special place for it.

For instance I bought NEO at about $7 and the rest his history.

But listen, the reason I think QTUM is about to take off and could be the next NEO is as follows (a few of the reasons)

1. Interview of QTUM team on CCTV, will create awareness (Chinese news channel equivalent to CNN)

2. Will have a WeChat or QQ integration, WeChat's mini-programs will allow users to transact using QTUM and also avail its service by paying through QTUM

3. Number of DApps built on QTUM > number of DApps built on NEO

4. Rumoured they have two 100 billion remninbi investor backing
