Thanks guys! The bfgminer update wasn't for the 5 chip devices unfortunately, but looking into things I think the cpuminer and cgminer I compiled for gridseed devices actually requires the same ftdi driver bfgminer does, unusually, so those may work with the bfgminer driver setup as opposed to the standard cgminer setup.

OK, as i said earlier, i am totally new to this... so as expected, i encounter my first issue... Sad

For the record, i am running OSX 10.9.1

VCP driver installed successfully from here - http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

After installing the driver and running ls -l /dev/cu.*

I noticed a new device was detected - crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   18,  11 Mar  6 23:48 /dev/cu.usbmodemfd1421

I am not sure whether this is the grid seed 5 miner.. but anyway, i did a test when i plug out the USB cable, it disappear.. so it must be it.   Smiley

Then I downloaded the macminer here - http://downloads.fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner-gridseed2.zip

I went out and sign up a new pool from https://www.wemineltc.com and enter the following pool setting:  stratum+tcp://hk2.wemineltc.com:3336

Not sure what is the username/password, so i left it empty.

And right after i saved, the FPGA window pop-up along with some error messages which i failed to copy down.. and then i panic.. basically i went on and start EVERY miner... and this went bad...

I can't quit the program and i have to force quite the macminer... then when i tried to start it... i got the "MacMiner Quit Unexpectedly" window

Process:         MacMiner [4575]
Path:            /Users/USER/Documents/*/MacMiner.app/Contents/MacOS/MacMiner
Identifier:      com.fabulouspanda.macminer

What do i need to do now?

Sorry about the crash, I'm working on that atm, for now please delete

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/MacMiner

then it should open again

You need to have a username and password for that pool! You need to register then create a worker

Hi Anonymailer,

Deleting the folder did the trick, i am able to start macminer again.

After entering my pool information and password, i started CG Miner and encounter the following:

2014-03-07 01:03:12] /Users/*/Documents/Temproray/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/gridcgminer3.5/bin/cgminer: -c: JSON decode of file '/Users/*/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf' failed

unable to open /Users/*/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf: No such file or directory

Did i miss any steps?

Could you try the CPU miner set to litecoin and see whether that works please? I need to recompile the cgminer and cpuminer for this as gridseed have updated their versions, hopefully we'll have better luck with that!

I've updated to the gridseed-cgminer-3.8.5
http://downloads.fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner-gridseed3.zip

Which has significant changes to the driver so worth a shot!

I have two feature requests:

First, it would be nice to be able to save pool information using the fancy interface you've put together. I can enter pool information, but if I enter new information, the old info gets deleted. Except of course for the built-in pools. The only way to store multiple pool data is by editing the config file.

Second, the provided config file editor leaves much to be desired. It doesn't need much, but an edit field that doesn't automatically change inch marks to smart quotes would be appreciated.

Other than that, I'm happily mining away. Thanks!

please update to this version:
http://downloads.fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner-gridseed4.zip
Which fixes that issue, sorry about that! I think the problem with cgminer is that this version wants you to unload any serial usb drivers from the system so try running

sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext && sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext && sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64 && kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64 && kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

in Terminal first then start cgminer again!

Thanks!
Thanks for the requests! Pool interface will be much improved in the next few updates Smiley

The config file editor definitely needs an update, I'll see about turning off auto-replace too!

downloaded and running the legacy pool with CG Miner.

i did setup the manual flag - --freq=600 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodemfdxxxx

Those are the flags you'd set for CPU Miner, for cgminer you want something more like this:

--gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=800,chips=5,modules=1,usefifo=0,btc=16 --hotplug=0

Note that the frequency settings will be subject to variance. The default is 600 (i.e. freq=600), but you can bump it up in increments of 50, up to 850 (I saw someone suggest 900, but 850 seems to be the cap most people have reached).

So if you use BitBacco's code and it works but you're getting errors, back it down. Alternately, start at 600 and work your way up once it seems to be stable.

That said, I haven't tried it yet in MacMiner, but I noticed the frequency setting and thought I should throw it out there.

In my Linux installation, I got stable performance at 850, but in SHA-256 mode only. In Dual mode, I got stable performance at 750, but every 3-4 hours hashing stopped with a message requiring a hardware reset. I'm currently testing 700 in Dual mode, and that's where I'll start with this MacMiner release.

Edit: I just got a hardware reset message. Now testing at 650... Sad

Did it start mining for a while before that?

@anonymailer

please update to this version:
http://downloads.fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner-gridseed4.zip
Which fixes that issue, sorry about that! I think the problem with cgminer is that this version wants you to unload any serial usb drivers from the system so try running

sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext && sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext && sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64 && kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64 && kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

in Terminal first then start cgminer again!

after entering the above in terminal, i get this: (kernel) Kext Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext not found for unload request.
Failed to unload Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext - (libkern/kext) not found.

It's a catch all - that's a driver you may have installed for another device but isn't installed by default Smiley

OK, i removed a previously installed bluetooth device with serial port...

right now, ls -l /dev/cs.*  only shows the below.

crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   18,   7 Mar  7 02:24 /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   18,   3 Mar  7 02:24 /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem
crw-rw-rw-  1 root  wheel   18,  11 Mar  7 10:39 /dev/cu.usbmodemfd1421

started CG Miner but still getting this:
