OK,

so exactly what i did.

removed the previous gridseed5
unplug my miner and plug it back
run sudo kextload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver at terminal
start gridseed6
GPU miner pops up automatically. Close it.
Click on cgminer and insert the manual flag - --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=600,chips=5,modules=1,usefifo=0,btc=16 --hotplug=0
Check on pool settings.. click save
and then START...

unfortunately still getting the same error below.

I wasn't able to duplicate ehwwong's success with CPUminer, and CGminer returned the same "failed to initialise (incorrect device?)" error he saw.

I suspect my CPUminer issue is related to my virtual machine Linux installation still claiming the device, so don't make too much of that. I'll fiddle with it some more. Smiley

Brandon,

Did you setup the manual flag - --freq=600 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodemfdxxxx  ?

I did, but my Mac wasn't recognizing the device, even though my Linux virtual machine did. This was all a 5 minute test and I haven't had time to dig into it yet.

Not sure where to post so hopefully this is the right place..

I'm trying to use MacMiner on a Mac Pro with Radeon 5870 to do GPU scrypt mining. My pool settings all work (tested and working with the CPU miner). When I try to use GPU, the output lists new blocks, but it doesn't seem to actually be doing any work. No mh listing and no accepted/rejected or number of threads running or anything. Also, my RAM usage spikes out of control and eats up like 8GB ram in 2 minutes and then continues on into swap, and I have to reboot to fix everything. I'm just using the recommended settings button (intensity at 4, also tried at 11, everything else auto).

Any ideas?

Hey, what OS version are you running? I know GPU mining isn't working on 10.6 but CPU mining is… Also, which version of MacMiner?

A little more troubleshooting info...

Switched to trying to GPU mine SHA-256 and it's working fine. Looks like it's just scrypt that's not working on GPU for me. Which is unfortunate, since I'm trying to mine scrypt coins :-)

Hi,

Unfortunately unloading the drivers did not make any difference on cgminer.

More 2 cents from me (hope to know more later):

The 5-chip units use the Apple CDC drivers, not FTDI drivers. Only the 1-chip units seem to use FTDI.

Ah, damn, what about pre 10.9?
CDC not FTDI, right

For support for the GridSeed 5-chip devices, if you are feeling crazy you can try this out (Scrypt-only atm):

https://github.com/nwoolls/bfgminer/commits/feature/gridseed-support

I give it the It Works For Me stamp of approval. Run it with -S gridseed:all and specify frequency with --set-device gridseed:clock=freq, e.g. 850 (default is 600).

Also, these should be loaded automatically but in case they aren't:

Code:
sudo kextload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDC
sudo kextload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDCACMData

nwoolls latest is rolled in now:

http://downloads.fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner-gridseed7.zip

his instructions should hopefully improve on a few of the issues with the 'CPU' miner!

Trying to find the right place to post this:

Brand new to mining and Macminer (and this forum).  Hope I'm posting in the right place.  I'm just looking to mine for fun and to learn and downloaded Macminer from Cnet and went with the default settings.  I pasted in my bitcoin and litecoin addressses but when I click "Start" I get what I think is an error message (see below) followed by the pop-up telling me that bgminer has started and forcing me to click "Indeed".

dyld: Library not loaded: /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/lib/libblkmaker-0.1.0.dylib
  Referenced from: /Users/shannon/Downloads/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/lib/libblkmaker_jansson-0.1.0.dylib
  Reason: image not found

Any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Shannon

Hey Shannon, it sounds as though cnet is distributing and old version, please get the new one from macminer.fabulouspanda.com and that should fix the problem for you Smiley

Gotta love CNet—and if Anonymailer isn't controlling the release that they're distributing, it could be a host for the OSXCoinThief trojan.

To be clear, I'm not dissing Anonymailer, but am highly critical of Downloads.com, as that site has been a distribution point for this malware, where it's been found bundled with legit software.

Download MacMiner directly from the Fabulous Panda website.

New to this here, so please be patient with me. I downloaded MacMine Grindseed7 which I believe is the latest.

I got CPUMiner to detect my Dual Miner USB which I got to play with, but I get this in the screen, and it doesn't seem to be hashing.

Hey BitBacco,

Has there been any progress on the Gridseed 5 support?

I pushed a new version which updates the bfgminer but I'm not sure whether that helps with the gridseed stuff or not. I'd be interested to hear back from anyone who tests it, I think once people got up and running Scrypt mining they lost the incentive to stop for a while and test a new setup! I should have updated here, I just posted on the MacMiner forum.
