Memorycoin / Protoshares thing has turned very fishy lately. The whole concept of Angel Shares they proposed screamed of scam.

[We don't want you spending money on electricity so send us your BTC and we'll send you back PTS that we "mined" for you.]  Umm, BTC required electricity to be mined and it's a lot more valuable than PTS that you can basically pull out of thin air.

MemoryCoin 2.0 has a voting system for executive officers. These positions are paying 56 coins each every 20 blocks where as the miners who find a block get 280. Of course the top 2 positions are filled by the developer himself. With the premine dustribution and these free coins going to officer, I'm not sure this coin falls under the decentralization theme of crypto currency.  With the premine distribution going to protoshares and the first memorycoin holders and the Dev of memorycoin2.0 is the same Dev as 1.0 and protoshares, I am under the impression of something fishy going on. I am going to run for their offices and redistribute the coins to those who vote for me.

Is there a site which lists the relative value of all the alt currencies?

Just joined to find out what this dogecoin is all about...

You can use www.coinmarketcap.com for that.

DogeCoin is also listed on there, together with about 50 other coins.

{Curently quite inactive as I'm really busy in my private life. I will get back soon!}

Just joined today after lurking for a week or so. People seem to be mentioning Dogecoin on here - can anybody say why they think it's so good?

I've been looking at Diamond myself - does anyone have an opinion? I seem to have a problem syncing my wallet - and keep getting stuck with 5566 blocks remaining - anyone else have this issue? I've only been mining on an old graphics card in my iMac, so have not earnt very much, but it's all very interesting.

Going to be putting together a mining rig soon, just to learn a bit more about crypto-currencies in general. Is it possible to earn back the money I outlay these days?

Doge - is essentially a fad.  Will it ever be worth anything?  Who knows....

In regard to DMD, the support network is AWFUL...pool sites are EXTREMELY slow, unreliable acceptance of shares (lots of orphans), etc.  The wallet issue is happening with a lot of folks...I don't see where a "fix-all" solution has been found at this point.

Now, after I've seemingly trashed DMD: I do know that they are working hard to revive this coin and the current issues are probably growing pains.  If you deem it worthy, get in as soon as you can and mine the hell out of them Wink

Thanks for the reply!

As a newbie, I've just been trying to understand how much of a 'joke' Doge is - but sometimes 'jokes' can end up paying for the mining rig that you've just ordered, and that you wife is not totally happy with you having spent 'how much!?' on ...  Undecided

I'm pretty convinced that crypto-currencies of one form or another have a future - but which one(s)? Hmmmm - tricky.

I suppose it would be worth knowing what the 'weak points' of BTC are, and how another altcoin could improve on that.

Once again: If you're considering development of an altcoin, please make it fundamentally different and more useful than what's out there.  If it's just another Bitcoin clone, don't ask us to download another CrapCoin-Qt wallet.

I have been communicating with others about building an altcoin that has mechanism built in to reduce volatility while still appreciating in value.  That, for example, is something that is a benefit to the end investor.

And you say that having in your signature... quaks and doge!
Oh Really!
That sig tells a different story than your post.

Both QuarkCoin and DogeCoin are different.  For the former, the underlying technology is different, more secure, and faster.  DogeCoin?  Well, it's just fun.  I can't imagine Bitcoins ever having been cool like these.

What different technology , a clone of a clone?
A clone of securecoin ? More secure? You can picture the security of quarkcoin against bitcoin like putting a sticker on your windshield.

That makes no sense whatsoever.  The point is that several altcoins exist on different networks of people, with different marketing, with different ways of mining, based on different hashing mechanisms, and have something new to offer.  There are so many bitcoin clones that are just identical to either Litecoin or Bitcoin.

I would like to work on development of a polymorphic altcoin that maintains a stable value and is more resistant to fraud.

I've enjoyed trading with qrks, they have a good group of developers (bitcoin), super fast transactions.

Check out this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=260031.0

The history of the coin is there for all to read from the start till present. I've been buying whilst BTC is down a few times and I've managed to grow my BTC holdings whilst having the pleasure of playing with QRK.

In my heart of hearts I just hope that Dogecoin goes from being a weekend joke into surpassing almost all the other coins save for LTC. However, that may end up putting cryptocurrency back a bit as proof that a "joke" and any digital currency can turn into something real.

Honestly it's seeing 5,000 of ANY alt-coin in my wallet that will be awesome and if the ice cream place down the street takes Dogecoin in 5 years, then jokes on me.  Cheesy

I like the humor put into doge coin but in all reality if it becomes that big of a success it would definitely discredit cryptos as a whole. It's a great thing to play with, I've even mined some but meh it shouldn't be anything more than a passing craze which will end up a a pumpndump coin like so many others.
