Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Here's what I wonder about mastercoin,  why is it with their exchange is says "Test MSC".

Are they trading 'test coins'.   See:  http://mastercoin-explorer.com/order_books

So how is it that exchanges playing with 'play money' are listed in comparison with exchanges with 'real money'?

There should be no coins listed in this list unless they are traded in any of the major exchanges (i.e. btc-e, cryptsy,  vircurex, etc).

Is there any reason why any coin would not want to be listed on Cryptsy? It seems like a coin would be missing out on a lot of action by not being listed on Cryptsy. I know some coins like TAG coin have their own exchange but are also listed on Cryptsy. I highly doubt the vast majority of people would have a problem with the valuations of these coins if they were also being traded on Cryptsy. Getting listed on Cryptsy seems like an easy way to add legitimacy in the eyes of many skeptics...

Some are saying Mastercoin (MSC) only has a "one exchange".

In fact Mastercoin has 5 non distributed exchanges, see: http://wiki.mastercoin.org/index.php/Trading_Mastercoins

+ 4 more distributed exchanges (currently doing Test MSC, soon to be MSC): http://wiki.mastercoin.org/index.php/Mastercoin_Balance

I'll grant the skeptics the volume on these exchanges is still relatively small, however Mastercoins have only been around a few months (since August) and only now attracting the attention of larger crypto exchanges.

The other non factual assertion being made by many is that "Mastercoins was pre-mined". This label would imply that some MSC were generated privately before being available to the public. In fact the "Exodus Period" from August 1st to August 31st was widely publicized and open for anyone to participate. During this period all MSC were generated (+ Dev MSC to be handed out over time) and 500+ people took part in supporting the funding of the features described in the Master Protocol whitepaper and spec. See: https://github.com/mastercoin-MSC/spec

I'd point folks to the "Clearing Up 10 Misconceptions about the Mastercoin Protocol" I posted earlier https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=328118.0

Lastly, some are saying that the lack of mining some how creates an issue. However since the Master Protocol operates on top of the Bitcoin Protocol there isn't a need for hashing power / proof of work. The Master Protocol is implementing instead a Proof of Stake system for protocol updates and its distributed bounty system. See my white paper on "Decentralized Applications" many of which are getting developed on top of existing blockchains.

https://github.com/DavidJohnstonCEO/DecentralizedApplications

If you are new to this concept you may also want to read Gavin's recent post on "Provably Prune-able Outputs" that makes the storage of this meta data in the Bitcoin blockchain possible with out causing "bloat" or "pollution".

https://bitcoinfoundation.org/blog/?p=290

Is there a reason that NXT is not on Cryptsy? Also I think some people are confused about Mastercoin not being on Cryptsy since the bidding on "the other Mastercoin" has gone up quite a lot since the financially backed Mastercoin has been featured on CoinMarketCap.com -- I'm not quite sure how that has happened if that is the case given these two Mastercoins have different tickers...

It's really unfortunate the marketplace has become so fragmented. I can't be bothered to sign up on multiple different sites just to invest in a single coin and thus resort to only investing in coins featured on Cryptsy (and I'm sure I'm not alone though the marketplace of choice may vary).

thx for this.

coinmarketcap.com developped to a place with double moral .
First they accepted to ban Ripples to a second page(requested by a lot of people), then they allowed NXT, and now Mastercoin to be listed on the same page.
So they lost integrety.

voting is a good idea.

They should ALL be on there.

There's no reason for censoring any of them. People on this forum and elsewhere are being pathetic in seeing "marketcap" as some kind of measure of merit when it isn't. Its just a statistic.

If I decide to create a new coin tomorrow with 100 Billion units and it trades for an appropriate price, it will have the biggest marketcap of all coins and that fact should be reflected in the marketcap statistics.

Coins should not have to "earn" their right to a marketcap position - its a statistic that includes the number of coins in circulation, thats all.

If coins don't need to earn their right to a marketcap position, there is nothing stopping this list from inflating indefinitely. I'm not saying any particular coin needs censoring but surely we don't need to see every single day bring additional coins to the list... There is 1 new coin or more coming out every day lately -- if CoinMarketCap.com starts listing them all (and the list at present is very much short of being comprehensive), I would expect many coins presently on the list to see a reduction in value as money spreads itself out over more coins. Maybe that would be a good thing -- redirect money into coins that actually have potential when the hundred clones take a serious beating as a result of people realizing just how many clones there actually are out there and what little it actually takes to create yet another.

Blatant scams shouldn’t be there. Why give any legitimacy to these coins and their fraudulently & falsely inflated price?

Its obvious now coinmarketcap.com is a site supporting scams, probably run by an scam artist.

coinmarketcap is one of few sites that actually lists coins without personal bias...
