I am a full-time professional philatelist (i.e. expert and consultant) and stamp dealer, having been in the business for more than 8 years already (based in Germany). In the meantime, I have become one of the most active and well-known stamp dealers in the world (philately isn't a gigantic world - however it's growing very quickly), and my reputation in the "real world" can easily be checked with the most important auction houses in the industry, etc., etc., etc.. I have kept a close eye (discreetly) on the whole bitcoin phenomenon for the past year or so and now I would like to offer bitcoin users the possibility of buying stamps, covers (which is the technical philatelic term for letters with stamps on them) and stamp collections for bitcoins. I specialise in classic philately, particularly in rare/medium-rare items. I do serve as advisor to some of the greatest collectors of the moment and I rely on extremely solid technical knowledge, as well a very solid understanding of the market and a vast network of connections, and thus I can advise on either collection-building at the highest level or buying stamps as a potential investment, or simply buying stamps just for the fun of it. Whatever the case, there is nobody else offering top philatelic items for bitcoins. Amongst all other collectables, stamps tend to be the most valuable in respect to their actual size (there are many stamps and philatelic items which fetch huge prices on the market - yet they are still just very small bits of paper) and the industry is growing at a very fast yet very solid, sustainable pace. And it has done so for the past 20-30 years. What I would like to do is have a more detailed post in the Market section, and then see whether there is any interest for philately amongst the bitcoin "population".

You could always use the big UK-based exchange:

Bitstamp charges a small 0.1% fee (one tenth of one percent) for International bank transfer deposits, and 0.50% (half a percent) fee to use their exchange for small quantities up to an equivalent 500 US Dollars, and a reduced fee schedule which will go as low as 0.20% if your 30-day volume is over 150 thousand dollars. To get verified (full access), you'll need a valid government issued ID, and a proof of residency... I was curious so I tested to make sure they allow signups from your country:



^That's a screenshot of the email I got during signup for a test... It let me choose Venezuela during signup and everything works, but I think my browser cookies caused the default currency to show up as USD instead of GBP, Euro dollars, or anything else... That shouldn't matter so long as you have the ability to send international bank transfer to the exchange to be able to buy bitcoin.

ISP business was a challenge in 1995, when I started, since you could not just "buy" things, but had to make it.


2001 I founded Elmit Co., Ltd., a consulting company for all Internet related subjects, like security, Voice over IP, Success on/with the Internet (including Internet campaigns, advertisements, social media).

I stumbled over Bitcoins at the beginning of the year and have a "close" look at it since.

I have tried to setup robots, but failed, however, I found Butter-robot, with which I am working now intensively.

My contribution is to get the words of Bitcoin trading out, especially here in Taiwan, where everybody used to have some stocks. New technology and the robot, would give some push. China's trading center is of course also an important point to get more involved.

Hi FaceTwo, sounds like you may have a problem sending an international bank wire from Ve.  Is that the problem? Seems there are no exchanges that support BTC/VEF. What money transfer options are available to you?

I'm a long time open source developer. The last few years i have been working on my Maplat Webserver, https://sourceforge.net/p/maplat/code/ci/default/tree/.

Currently, i have a free online wallet https://www.cavac.at.(*) The only charge is the mandatory network transaction fee of 0.0005 BTC to support the miners.

I'm currently working on a newer version of this (mostly background stuff).

Also, in a few days, maybe a week or two, you will be able to rent subdomain-entries for one of my domains, grumpfzotz.org, very cheaply with bitcoins. I was thinking of 0.005 BTC per hostname per year. I'm still working out the technical details. Maybe this will only include that single hostname (like myserver.grumpfzotz.org), most likely this will include a fully working sub domain (including sub-sub names like myserver.mysubdomain.grumpfzotz.org). Depends on how easy to use i can make the webinterface for users.

I have not seen any Paypal tos, that actually forbids e-currencies or bitcoin, only threads. My research could be too narrow, though. Received a positive e-mail from paypal about selling btc, even though they cannot guarantee anything.

But yeah, separate thread in the future. I need to adjust a few things anyways.
