a long term investment is something that goes up in long term! but that is a very simple explanation of it. in fact a long term investment is something that is consistently rising over long term and if it has any drops then they are temporary before the rise continues.

this definition is not at all compatible with how ETH is performing.

look at its charts. the price is slowly dropping with little jumps then more drop. then there is a pump which only lasts about a month or two. then the dropping continues...

a good long term investment is not something that is bigger after a year. a good long term investment is something that goes up every month. for example if this month it is worth $10 then the next month it should be $11 and then next $12.
but in case of ETH for example the price is $10 then it is $9 then $8 ... $2 then it is pumped to $8 so everyone thinks it must be a good long term investment!!! and worst part is after $8 it starts the same drop again to $7, then $6 ...

Yes that's true because the movement of ethereum is really like a turtle very slow but steady and for long time.  If you want to get something out of ethereum then you better be ready to invest for a year at least. If you checkout the historical data on coinmarketcap then you will understand the movement of ethereum is increasing very slowly on higher side and it takes huge dips in between as the bitcoin moves down. So it's really not the altcoin which can get you immediate profits. It's not even durable for long time according to me because if it would have been great at its performance then it should have crossed 1K mark by now. But you may wanna try luck this year, anything can happen in crypto world.

It's not that promising investmentbfir future because it holds many pros and cons altogether leading to ambiguous nature of altcoin. So it's still in beta phase with hutches in between and needs improvement to be proven as good investment. Yeah it does look very stable for now and can be considered while making the long term investment. Ethereum is widely used in the ICO projects for buying the ERC20 standard token which ultimately makes the user to buy the ether and then buy the tokens. This is so amazing that indirectly ethereum is being pumped everytime great ICO launches itself. The altcoin is king of all for now and have shown the possibility of rising in the crypto market. It could even be next bitcoin or at least halfway around it. The prices will pump no matter what but it's just about the time that we need to look after. As they say patience is the key answer it gets paid in terms of sweet fruit. ;-)

I think yes, ETH is very good for long term investment and  very potential to be big in the future because of good in fundamentals. Vitalik Buterin as ETH founder is very active in many seminars to introduce ETH technology to the world community. ETH as a smart contract will be used by many people when buying tokens during ICO. And also amount of ICO based on ETH getting more and this ofcourse will definitely increase demand of ETH.

I agree with you . ICO projects mostly want ETH income and this will greatly affect the current ETH . I think if that project earns a lot of ETH that sure project will succeed and there will be plenty of ETH to keep the future going.

If you look at the chart, eth price are stable and gaining traction.to me this coin(eth) has potential and so far the safest secondary to bitcoin and  has a chance to be atleast close to 4 figure value. as long there's a project dev continously use eth to build decentralized application, its price will  increase gradually and no way but to go up.eth are good for long term investment rather than short one.

It were a huge step taked by eth, i do remember it at 300k satoshis, and i did played a bit with it but i havent hold, the smart contracts feature is amazing, several Ico becamed more serious using those. I personally dont like eth because the dao failing, and well i havent looked over it at all, but Ico did gaved value to it as well the smart contracts thats a pretty nice feature.

Eth can be considered as long term investment yea but not that good one for me.Because when i make a long term investment i expect to get 10x atleast so it worths to hold it for long time. Unfortunately i don't belive Eth will see 3-4k for very very long time. To wrap it up yea you can invest in eth if you want low risk low gain kinda investment. If you want more gain in long term go for waves instead.
