You have partially answered your question. PRL is popular because it it listed on few bigger exchanges and because people believe that the project itself is very good, the team behind it is serious. Everyone who uses Internet is sick of ads on the web sites and this really is one of the best solutions to get rid of them - every user can be asked to donate little computing power in order to browse the web site without ads. If he doesn't want to, he can still browse the web site but with annoying ads. Plus, cloud storage part of the project is already working (in beta phase). All that and a low market cap (around $100K) is making people believe PRL can go x10 or even x100.

One good reason is PRL is unique. And most likely, those who follow the Bitcoin bull run switch to the cheapest alternative which is PRL . I also bought during it's 1m market cap which i see as a very cheap at that time. This one's one of the huge gainer on my portfolio. Although i bought less, this still made me a good sum of money.
