The common cause of poverty is laziness. Everybody can earn money nowadays, even if you have nothing you can still do things that can earn money. The reason why some people didn't achieve their goals in life and why they are in poverty is because they did not do their best because of laziness. I also think so. Many poor people do not even want to see for themselves any new opportunities, but only see obstacles in everything and blame someone else for their problems. They are afraid to take responsibility for themselves.

Poverty is a natural phenomenon. It isn't caused by any single cause, it's a system. The closest you can get to a cause is human corruption.

I believe every human lives the way he/she thinks it's best and when we get together and talk it out about how things should work we get glorious results. Like the Declaration of independence. Its direct consequence was the longest era of prosperity in recent history. We are living in the time that's best for humans, ever.

But as the system has been running for so long, by the same group of people, the little things they changed in their favour start to accumulate. They culminate in events like the 2008 bail-out where the elite first robbed everybody else for decades and then received a bail-out for a pure double win.

The elites' control of the system increases to the point where nothing besides their interest matters and everyone else suffers.

Poor people are easy to control because they have no resources, nothing to resist with. Most don't even need to be controlled as they have to work their asses of just to survive. Once the oppression reaches levels where people are starving and if they complain about it they get locked up or killed, the people get fed up and try to kill the elites, reset the system to something that serves everyone once again, which in time get hijacked by the new (or surviving old) elite and the circle repeats.   

I think this housekeeping of our system is our most important task and blockchain with its' immutability could be a great help.
