I must agree with the post above. We focus so much on taking rather than giving that poverty still remains. I think, as a society, if we unite in 1 purpose, like finding a cure to all diseases, no more wars, poverty, famine, we can achieve it. But we must give a little from ourself, there are so many corrupt people that stand in our way...

And corruption is itself a lack of effort, the corrupt person isn't interested in working, thinking to themselves "why should I work for my food and lodging when I can just steel from others".

Greediness at its finest.  God give us an abundant supply of resources in this earth.  And there is scarcity of food supply and poverty continue because their are so wise, greedy, and selfish people who want to take all of it all for himself.  That is why poor people are still poor and rich people continues to become rich.

Corruption may be the number 2 cause. The first cause has to be overpopulation. If the population density is too high, then naturally there will be competition over the natural resources. And in the end, the per capita availability of resources such as land and water will be too low to allow decent living standards among the general population.

That's correct. Over population is what's causing poverty. If everyone can notice, lots of those poor nations has more population compared to those countries where people can live the life they want, and the people at those rich countries are healthier too compared to those countries that are poor. They are more dependent too to what the government can offer compared to those rich ones.

some may say it's laziness, but i doubt that if wealth is the result of  huge effort and hard work then women in countries like africa should be a millionaire by now, i think it's the structure of the economy, imbalance wealth distribution.

I believe that the answer lies on ourselves. Living in poverty is our choice. You know why? We always have a choice in our life. The choice we've made will have its own consequence. If you choose to be lazy and easily get upset, then you won't get anything. However if you choose to always work hard and never give up,  then you may not live in poverty.

Lazyness maybe and so much corruption.  Every country has its own natural resources that if goes to the right hand, its citizen will benefit.  But if the leader only wants to become wealthy and all what he was thinking is himself then that is it.  Many will become poor and hunger is widespread.

its because of the selfishness of many people. All of us experience hardship in life, so when we are having plenty, we tend to spend it all that all people could see how wealthy we are, we tend to boast it to others. We enjoy or blessing by keeping it to our self. We don't care about other people. That's why many rich people get richer and many people get poorer

I think over population is the common cause of poverty.Because over population makes many problems of human life.As for example, my country name is Bangladesh.our country is so small but it has a large population. There's a lot of reasons why there's poverty. Lack of natural resources, corruption, poor governance, lack of education, lack of technology and equipment and a lot more. There's a lot of countries that lacks natural resources that's why it's really hard for people to make it out of poverty. Add the corruption of government, which makes situation worse.

It is quite a pathetic one when countries with mineral resources are being ranked amongst the poorest nations in the world! It is like a curse! I did regard my country as being in this category. Part if the reasons is due to selfish motives of leaders in places of power in the nation building. Everyone goes into government with sole motive of self enriching! The masses aren't being taken care of. Basic social amenities are being neglected and we found out that money allocation for execution of projects are being siphoned into personal pockets.

Or we don't care enough to stop kids dying from hunger in Africa, though we are building spaceships to Mars. If all of us were to care for our neighbors, relatives, friends, those in need, we could have built a better society.

Corruption is not the primary cause for poverty. Because there will be no corruption, if there is no money. Corruption will occur only if there are sufficient government funds. There are a lot of nations out there, which are having honest and hard-working governments and rulers. But many of these countries remain poor, due to over-population and the lack of natural resources.

I think the main reasons of poverty are corruption, education, and population. Corruption because of the government officials who wants only money. And education because of lack of knowledge they learn in school And last is the population because of the number of lots of a jobs is decreasing because of the increasing of the population
