Just wondering: Why involve all these non-russian testers if the device can only be shipped to Russia?
The device (prepared by Metabank) in Russia, but the chips worldwide.
Have you read about 100 TH/s bitcoin mine investment?

Can only or can not be shipped to Russia?

Chips will be sent on 10-11th from Taiwan, if we'll find out how to help our packaging factory to make it happen, but it can be later as well. Anyway it is not only bet issue, but we would like to know about chips performance AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I think that opportunity to get these hashes earliest would be excellent motivation to execute tests in shortest possible terms.

Chips will be sent from Taiwan it would be a brilliant idea to only send them to Russia. It would indeed be a awesome marketing campain, as everyone in the world (i think) know the reputation of their post offices and how well they work... i dont know why BFL haven't tought yet on that, as it would solv all their problems...
Ship smth to Russia work so well and fast that some airports dennied a few months ago to work with Russian Post Office and stop reciving shipments while they didnt solv the problem, duo to have all warehouses full...

Well its true that they fired the bosses and got a new administration but as they say it will take months to recover that backlog and yet i got my doubts that would solv the huge problem that is ship smth to Russia...

Are there plans to sell the chips globally after 100th and Metabank are supplied? If so what time frame?

Power consumption feeding it with different voltages (unprogrammed and no clock).

[14.06.13, 20:19:00] Niko: 0.5V = 0.03A
[14.06.13, 20:21:14] Niko: 0.55V = 0.04A
[14.06.13, 20:21:38] Niko: 0.597V = 0.06A
[14.06.13, 20:22:14] Niko: 0.698V = 0.11A
[14.06.13, 20:22:29] Niko: 0.75V = 0.15A
[14.06.13, 20:22:51] Niko: 0.79V = 0.19A
[14.06.13, 20:21:56] Niko: 0.65V = 0.08A
[14.06.13, 20:23:16] Niko: 0.85V = 0.29A
[14.06.13, 20:23:35] Niko: 0.9V = 0.40A
[14.06.13, 20:25:11] Niko: 0.95V = 0.60A..

Now we'll do most important, we'll try to see clock, then we'll try to hash on 0.6 V... I think 1 W / GH/s is easy target for us, very easy :-) Do you see relationship in unprogrammed state ? ;-) So if it computes correctly - then it will beat power limit definitely :-)

Bitbet left only 6 hours as I write this. If chip will work but bitbet would reject proof - those who put bet on YES I'll pay myself. If we'll make however test earlier than  6 hours - but bitbet would reject proof - that's their reputation issue and not ours. As actually we have no fears, this result will be re-verified multiple times and overall costs involved are MUCH higher than those bet value :-) So no sense to lie just to win bet :-))) Already flight to Taiwan and organizing test had quite significant costs :-))))

Earlier then expected the bitfury test jigs arrived:

Together with the solder paste screen for reflow
soldering of the ASICs:

Next step is connecting these boards to the SPI
link of S-HASH and compiling and running some
of bitfury's code.

And now fire up the clock! Luckely power dissipation
is linear with frequency and not quadratic as with core
voltage:-)

We'll start sending chip to locations. About bitbet - it seems that we do not meet time so resolution should be closed to No because timing was not met. I however would anyway compensate Yes if chip will work as it is our fault of being not in time and people actually were waiting for this to be tested earlier.

It sounds like chips might be a little way out yet. I think I am going to start working on a full board for the Bitfury chips, maybe something along the lines of 4 SPI lanes x 4 chips as a compromise between saving pins/traces and making it so I can still use it as a 4 chip board if the SPI out doesn't work.

Has there been any information on the onboard oscillator from preliminary testing? I am still having difficulty sourcing a reasonably priced 500MHz LVCMOS IC clock generator, and I'd really prefer not to have to build one out of an RF PLL. Is there any onboard frequency selection, and if not what are the frequencies available from the two oscillators?

Check out our live report is Bitfury ASIC chips! Put it through Google Translator if Necessary. bittiraha.fi/content/matka- ... # bitcoin # asic
@ Bittirahafi 3 hours ago
The journey begins

On Friday, the 14th June - 2013Lisännyt punin
I was asked to pick Bitfuryn ASIC directly from the factory, and to seek to have it tested before the expiry date of 15.6 Bitbetin bet. The reason for my decision is the fact that I'm a Finnish Bitcoin scene reasonably well-known type, speak Russian, and their contacts with Taiwan.

I had to leave the road a couple of days notice, so that the preparation was not much time at all. I booked tickets to 7.9. tickets to Taipei via Hong Kong. I left enough slack time for once, I could get that rotate in Hong Kong - in that legendary place where almost all the time of my childhood toys had been made. Smiley

The flight to Hong Kong went well and I got some sleep properly. I headed directly to the train that took me to the heart of the city in just over half an hour. After a few minutes, went wondering about, and then the place started to feel quite at home already.

A small side alley found an authentic oloinen nuudelimesta, which did not disappoint. Greasy fried crispy pork belly slightly spicy noodle soup was exactly what I needed in that situation. Salty food, however, began to janottamaan, so I decided to look for a local restaurant, where you should Wi-Fi. Such was found just a couple of blocks away.

Kuppila a number of local British client, and we ended up sitting adjacent to the tables. Bitcoin soon became topic of discussion, and they're excited about it a lot more if the coefficient on the subject. Now, following the rib-tickling seems to think that it is precisely in those hours a Snowden gave haastatteluaan perhaps only a few hundred meters away from the ...

Greetings from Taiwan!

I arrived in Taipei late in the evening. Airbnb.com in via chartered by the hut was a little hard to find. Finally, I grabbed a taxi and I looked like Chinese characters written address and waterproof to 200m laughed and drove away, and the cabin.

The cabin was located quite an interesting area. The area to be was probably the main male middle-aged men entertain. Smiley Little alleyways were full of small Japanese-style "Snaku" restaurants and private club with a well-lit elegant facades could not see in any way. I did a quick tour for the area, and went to bed and supper's flat. The final weekend went Taiwanese friend kestittävänä. I also met a local electrical engineer Mr. Lee's, where we got a connection through a Taiwanese friend of mine.

Bitfury had decided to offer free samples (url: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=228677.0) chipeistä bitcointalkin custom hardware section to interested engineers and have access Hacker "first fishers virgin" so as to examine the chip's capabilities. This would allow us to quickly get a good idea of the characteristics of the chip, which would facilitate our work here in Taipei.

Adversity

The mill was originally promised date of delivery was gone for nearly two weeks ago. The new date of delivery was 10.6., And the trip was booked by this date. Then the date was changed again QFN packaging line due to congestion. The new delivery day promised to 13.6. This was paaluulentoni day. Began to feel that the trip would be longer than what I had originally thought. What's more, I'm just addicted to Teppanyaki.

We continued to put pressure on the plant as far as possible. The situation is complicated by high safety rating (we did not really have even the right to communicate directly with the factory), the lavish us are not familiar with the jargon associated with the use of abbreviations to communicate (such as "MFG got high WIP issue. Pushing MFG to review WIP and Provide SOP ASAP"). Moreover, Western Europe, and Taiwan is the time difference between 6-7 hours, so that kind of stuff all the time, at the same time, work was perhaps an hour or so a day. Faith in chips before getting 15.6. began to fade away, but we were not ready to give up.

The second path

Since the original packer seemed to be a serious capacity problems, we decided to try to get more chips from other sources. In fact, silicon wafers were still in stock at the factory, so we contacted a number of local packers our wish to find a less congested QFN package capable factory, fast delivery would agree to such a small batch. We managed to get a quick answer, and they promised delivery of the so-called hot-week runs in lot. We began immediate arrangements for silicon wafers in order to obtain the packer.

The stakes get tougher

Thursday, 13 day dawned. During the night, had come to e-mail, with delivery promised on Friday the original factory. The condition was that we agreed to finish the package of chips, wirebond X-ray inspection and everything else related to the quality control of all-out to get past the first small test batch.

Lentooni was no more than six hours. The continuous postponement of the schedule and the bones of the eroding confidence in the mill, and thinking seriously to return home, as 15.6. After the delivery could have been dealing directly with the couriers. It seemed, however, unreasonable to disclose at this point, so I decided to stay for a few days. This meant a new cabin management. Return to the ticket counter I was thinking to buy a 15.6. after, as if to 19.6. delivery would be considered closed, I could get chips supplied to all those around the world waiting for the most fastest site.

I just got done hut and moved there to work. Friday delivery details relating to settlement even plant the initiative confirmed the trust. I called a video call home, and said I was sorry that the adventure streched.

The moment of truth

Scheduled delivery day came at last. The factory had promised to deliver chips at 19-20. Mr. Lee find a suitable level shifter from the city, and I Bitfurylle tuning up the SSH tunnel RasPiin. At the same time was preparing to go in Kaohsiung, Taiwan's southern tip.

Surprisingly, I got a call from the factory, the circuits can be picked up, but they must be picked up before 18 pm! Pulls shorts leg and rushed to the yard. I managed to get a taxi, but the driver is not happy we could not get to understand that I wanted to train station. A mobile phone, there was no data connection, so the map application does not work. In the end I got the message across a combination of a steam locomotive piston hand signals and "Huut-Huut" ääntelyjä. "Aaaaaaaaa!" said the driver through their understanding where I am on the way. Later found a common word "shinkansen" the driver understood (even if it was in Japanese).

Train travel across the Taiwan went and watched the scenery of this journey write these reports. Approaching the Kaohsiung factory representative called and gave the address of the circuits should be sought. Moments before the date of arrival to the station second factory representative called and moved to the agreed plan. He would come to the station to bring the districts and asked to wait in the lobby asemman.

I arrived at the station in Kaohsiung. Representative can not be seen anywhere. The lobby was huge, but edukseni I was practically the only Western-looking guy. The minutes were replaced varteiksi. I started to panic. I tried to call the factory and of his cell phone number. Nothing in the number did not answer. International Calls not answered. Sweat poured in lahkeistani the last representative called me and apologized for the delay. Happy girl duo handed over the bundle of the customs papers (due to a misunderstanding) and handed over the districts of me.

Now, I am Mr. Lee's home, which is currently being hand drill, drill holes in the circuit board lämpöpadia for ... well, as soon as the chip works, and we put a live videofeedin rotation, if the band gives way ... We still have 8 hours Smiley

Awesome blog post! Can you comment on how many chips in total you received? I count aprox 190 chips from your picture, can you verify? Looking forward to the test results. Good luck!

Picture of packaging says 217, tray looks to have 240 slots, though how it came out of that package I cannot say (maybe it folds in half?) Minor quibble about lack of anti-static handling, but they're prototypes so whatever (and its pretty humid in HK).

PS What MSL are these QFN packages? May not be a good idea to get them too damp.
