Coinbase is the most beginner friendly exchange. Coinbase allows its users to make recurring purchases when investing in various cryptocurrencies. Coinbase charges 1.49% fees on bank purchases and 3.99% fees on credit and debit purchases.

if you want to trade large amounts of bitcoins, then bittrex and poloniex are the right exchange options, because the two exchanges are very safe, and have never been hacked by hackers. but if the exchange you're looking for is an altcoin exchange, then binance, kucoin, and okex are the right choices

If you live in a country where it’s not easy to get Bitcoin, you can use any of these two websites. All two of them offers to buy Bitcoin using credit/debit card.
CEX: My favorite
CoinMama: Old but gold and let you buy BTC and ETH instantly.

I use poloniex and OKex exchange. Both are very good in terms of security of customer funds, quick deposit and withdrawal of funds without delay. The interface for trading is also simple to use.

Kucoin and binance look pretty good. Okex too which is what I use looks great and they have some great tokens listed on their exchange too. Mostly the exchange you choose depends on what coin you want to buy and what kind of rates you are looking for. Also it might depend on your location too to make things easier for you especially if you are trading and need to cash out or in quickly

The best one suited for me is Huobi.
Verification is fast and you can be trading within 30 minutes. No trading fees and 5x leverage. 1% per day on leverage and 1% for cash withdrawal if memory serves right.
Other than this I am using and like to suggest is Binance and Bittrex.

Personally, Kraken is one of the best cryptocurrency exchanges. It provides reliability, high-security environment, some legal compliance, and advanced order types like stop-loss orders. It also offers high liquidity, low fees, fast funding, margin trading, etc. It has uptime problems occasionally.

I recommend CEX.IO, it offers security, high liquidity, and cross-platform trading. It also offers lower fees, margin trading, almost 100% uptime, etc. It was affected by a small hack long back but has had no issues for a while. It has a large number of accounts possibly due to its beautiful interface.

If  you’re just getting started and want to buy crypto with your local currency:
Use Coinbase if you are in its select group of 32 countries. It is the top crypto exchanges that will let you spend your fiat on crypto. If you’re elsewhere, Coinmama might be better for you. Of course, Coinmama can’t be used in Europe, Australia or North America.

I think binance and okex are nice exchange. Also, I used to use bittrex, but it's not popular anymore.

According to daily volume transaction, coinmarketcap has data if the biggest exchange base on daily volume for now is Okex, huobi and Binance, i have account in these all exchange and only Binance and okex offer account without verification with limited amount of withdrawal, and for Huobi to trade and make withdrawal should be with verified account and they handled  verification proccess in just a few minutes.

Binance Coin Trading Platform is a relatively new exchange that began operation in 2017. It is a trading platform for blockchain assets created by a group of digital asset enthusiasts led by Zhao Changpeng. Since ICO, it has now entered the world's top 10 cryptocurrency exchanges. They have the platform's local currency "BNC currency", Binance Coin. Its total issuance volume is constant at 200 million, and guarantees will never increase.

In my opinion, Poloniex - one of the most popular exchanges worldwide - is a solid and reputable choice for traders looking for a decent selection of altcoins. A major advantage of Poloniex is the ability to trade on margin, giving seasoned traders the option to short coins.

Using Binance at the moment. Is that one of the best, or there are better ones?  I live in Sydney Australia by the way.

And which exchange has the lowest fees?

And do I need to provide photo ID etc to join them and to start buying coins?

Thanks:)
I have never used the binance market, but I often trade in bittrex, poloniex, hitbtc, in my opinion the best is bittrex, but for the low cost it is poloniex. to join, bittrex and poloniex must verify using IDcard for withdrawal. while HitBTC does not require it.

If you want to trade multiple cryptocurrencies with low fees and don’t want to use ID:
Use Binance. You don’t need an ID for transactions below 2BTC. While other exchanges, like P2P exchanges, don’t require ID at all, Binance has the biggest volume and largest selection of Alt Coins. Fees here are cheaper than on other exchanges and can get even cheaper if you pay them with the Binance BNB coin.

for market binance is obviously the best, although there are some very good markets like hitbtc, coinexchange and others, but in binends I think it's obviously easier and a lot of expensive coins too.
