Why people are unhappy?

It depends on the person. Sometimes you become wealthy when you reach your middle age, and that time you started to break apart from your friends little by little. Maybe that's the reason why you become lonely after you become rich.

Some are also not into socializing, so their lives are boring and makes them look older. It means they are serious in life. They tend to think critical each time and there is almost no room for mistake for them.

The more people are around you, the happier you are.

According to me , people are unhappy because  they do not know how to satisfied with their belongings . People are always complaining about their life and are never pleased with their jobs, significant others etc. For that reasons they are unhappy. Always being unhappy makes humankind sick and tired. That is very bad to our society.

People are unhappy because they have forgotten the meaning of commitment.  They always wander around without committing themselves to a particular thing which renders them aimless and makes them lethargic.
People don't have a particular goal in mind to achieve or a motivation which is the leading problem for their unhappiness .

Most people living in a decent life are unhappy than the poor are unhappy and you know why? its because they do not have contentment. Well, there are so many reasons for discontent, starting with simple life problems. Every person in this world is unstable, and at different times he has different emotions on his face. Therefore it is difficult to say what a certain person is dissatisfied at a certain moment in time.

I Think its because the world and this society is slowly draining them. with how much we advanced and how much we focused on the end goal that we forget a shred and piece of humanity and this is something that is dragging us down. IT stains and sucks our souls

The reason people are unhappy, is because they compare themselves to others.

Poor people being unhappy, often revolves around the point they don't have a lot of possessions.
Rich people being unhappy, often revolves around the point they don't have a feeling of "accomplishment", or they are completely excluded out of the "fun" social circles and put into the "business" society.

Another cause can be love. Love, possession and might are the three most common problems people face. If someone loses his/her/its loved one, he/she/it would probably become unhappy temporarily and possibly for the rest of their life, depending on their age, loyalty, and much more factors.

There's a whole bunch of reasons people could be unhappy for. These were just four quite common ones.

Greed is one of the nature of human being, other people doesn't realized that being greedy can hurt  and can kill people, that's why it is called one of the seven deadly sin. Some people I noticed that they love money more than anything in this world, but remember that love of money is a root of all kinds of evil this world, that is why the best things in order for us to make happy are to appreciate the things that we have blessed, and love not the money but those people who are continuing to support us, such us friends, family and love ones.

Many of us see wealthy unhappy people in their lives, whereas their daily lives are filled with luxury from big houses, expensive sports cars, world famous brand clothes, the latest smartphone in their hands, but most of them are unhappy. According to some articles I've read stating happiness can not be measured based on how much wealth. Happiness is where relationships between each family member can be gathered together, communication with each other without any domestic conflict, mutual support both materially and morally. Happiness as we live in harmony.

Unhappy people will probably do everything just to get what they want and to find happiness, but what they do not know is that, they cannot find real happiness in spending their time in work to earn more to get what they want. Well, when people are unhappy they tend to buy things or spend money on experiences and gurus, in search of happiness. So unhappy people are economically profitable. So it would make no sense to help people be happier.
Also, we are no neurologically wired to stay happy. We get used to any state and immediately start wishing for something different. Or more.
