There are three factors that makes a coin rise:
First, the project behind the coin. If a coin has an amazing project it's value rise. If not people will stop investing on it.
2nd, if the coin has an active community. The price will rise because the community will be encourage to buy it.
3rd, if the coin is listed in a major crypto exchange site. The price tends to go up as the buy volume will go up.

It's usually the team behind the coin that makes something valuable. The coin itself doesn't matter but what matters is mostly what it represents. What it have to represent is an idea that will have real impact in the future. There are so many projects out there that are doing exactly that, they are not offering anything substantial or of value to future customers. They are jus tlooking to make a quick profit in the booming market and many of them manage to do so, which attracts other people to do just the same. It's a never ending circle which is why we see so many horrible and useless coins circulating. At some point they will all collapse and only the strong coins will remain. These will always be the one's that had a vision and actually impemented steps in order to realize it.

In my opinion the community gives it value. As it is with every currency, if its not used and accepted by the people there is no value in it. Same goes for gold. After all that is also just a metal, if people decided to value iron more and do use that as a store of value that is commonly accepted, this maybe would be todays precious "gold".

If you mean coin with real value, and not inflated by hype and empty promises, you have to create something that people are going to use. And for that the coin has to bring features that will solve people's problems.

Lately, what I've seen is that users have been looking for something that brings anonymity and scalability. If you manage to innovate in that area, you greatly increase your chances to succeed.

Well as it is with every currency, its the people that give it its value. The same goes for Altcoins as for Bitcoins as for fiat money (only that fiat money is given trust because it got government backing and people somehow believe in it for this reason). I mean that’s crazy how far the blockchain tech has gone and how it is helping the altcoin projects evolve. Well demand is what makes anything valuable if there is a good demand for it then the value would keep on increasing as the demand increases.And also i think somewhat it also depend upon total number of coins available as limited things get costly when there is a shortage.If Altcoin is accepted in many places,exchanges then the popularity of the coin would increase.

In my opinion the community is very important for the value, but for me the developer team is even more important. And of course the tech/project should have an real life usage. Too many coins out there are pumped without an working product.
