Another country that will be left in the dust, the problem with your government  instead of doing research, they do what mostly normal people do, they listen to the neg rap.  Governments are just people that are ruled with no brains.

Zimbabwe is proof that the people in society are even smarter then the government

I did hear this information in several places. personally i am a person who is close to indonesia and i have not heard any official statement from indonesian government. It looks like an issue but should be kept in mind as there are several important elements that have supported this information. I am worried that the Indonesian government's stance will make Bitcoin a decrease in the price. We all know that Indonesia is one of the biggest markets of Bitcoin users today. The number of transactions in the country of Indonesia can be regarded as top ten. I may be more waiting for what the next step will be taken Indonesian government, the attitude of the Indonesian government will determine the development of Bitcoin in the country of Indonesia. In addition any decision made by the Indonesian government will at least affect the development of Bitcoin globally.

I still find the people from Indonesia accepts the bitcoin selling in localbitcoins bro. Wait for authentic release to find in your news paper these kind of rumour will not be legit some time.
So if you have any bitcoins now you please sell it out as soon possible and convert it as cash. If you find the people using bitcoin your country check all those you will get more information. Then still converting bitcoin to cash to not at all problem here.

Relax dude, even the government of Indonesia bans the bitcoin and any other related with bitcoin still there are way to cash out your profit from the bitcoin, you can sell bitcoin via skrill, neteller, localbitcoin and other way. I think the bitcoin be banned by government of Indonesia just will makes the digital coins will be crashed but it will not kill the bitcoin on Indonesian people, so let's think to get out from this problem and never blame the government of Indonesia, we just need change the strategy investment in the bitcoin and other digital coins, everything will be fine.

To my knowledge, so far there has been no official decision from the government that declared a ban on the use of bitcoin in Indonesia, and unilateral declarations from banking sector Indonesia hasn't been realized by the government in this country.
and i think it will take time for the government to consider and realize about Bank Indonesia's proposal for a ban on bitcoin.

Sorry to hear that. It's unfortunate, but also inevitable that some governments will try to ban cryptocurrencies.

I wouldn't panic yet. I doubt the government is doing sophisticated packet analysis on your web traffic to detect Bitcoin network activity, and if they were, you can use VPN/TOR. You can continue to mine. You can probably still open an account at lots of brokers/exchanges. Some will prohibit Indonesians based on the ban, but you can use VPN/TOR for those that don't enforce KYC (Bitfinex, Bitmex, Wex, Binance, etc).

The main issue is liquidating BTC to Rupiah to cover electricity costs. Withdrawing fiat money from exchanges requires KYC, so you might need to start trading P2P for withdrawals into your bank account (or Skrill, Neteller, Payza, Paypal, etc). There's a Currency exchange subforum for that, or you can check out Localbitcoins.

Localbitcoins and OTC are your only options if indeed your country will ban bitcoin. I think you need to look at how Chinese doing it right now, although the Chinese government is putting a hard lined stance, the bitcoin community is still thriving and doing OTC trading. I'm not sure though if they banned and started to look at people doing bitcoin activity though, so I suggest you need to take some precautions. I'm really sorry for Indonesian bitcoin community because most of them have look at bitcoin as their main source of income so a lot of them are going to be affected by this news.

Just one of their devious methods just to avoid having people's freedom in moving their money because they can't find a way to manipulate money in the bitcoin which is why they are banning because if they can't control something then its useless for some corrupt officials. In anyways mate I think it is not yet official so continue doing what your doing and cash out now while you can.

I'm Indonesian, and I'm a little bit anxious about this. But if you think back, people can always find ways to access and manipulate the government's boundaries. For example, such as porn sites, gambling sites, and various other sites that are considered dangerous and disturbing for the government. Such sites are blocked, but the fact is, nothing can really be blocked. And if I look at the comments of friends here, I think we can still take profit from Bitcoin and sell Bitcoin. We can sell Bitcoin to our fellow Indonesians, but we can also sell Bitcoin to foreign people and convert our Bitcoin into dollars. After the dollar, we sell our dollars and we can make money.

Reading through the article suggests that the intending ban is going to be a massive one if successful. This will equally send a panic to the market over there but because the population of people country does not constitute a major bloc in the entire market, that is why we still haven't felt it.

Before decision is made on whether you want to cash out, try to study how they intend to effect the ban because the painful thing is pushing you to sell then realising that they don't even have both the technological and human capital to push the implementation forward and the timing it will come to effect is equally important

Why government needs to banned a great technology like bitcoin? Another country that ate trying to manipulate people. Just put your bitcoin in a safe wallet and for sure you can still use it in other country or later on Indonesia will finally adopt bitcoin.

Bitcoin.co.id is the biggest exchange from Indonesia with more than $22m daily volume. And they have legality of the company that verified by the government it self. With this news, I see something weird when the government have issued the legality of a bitcoin company, and now they will ban bitcoin? They looks like not really did research on bitcoin.
As long as there's no official statement from Indonesian government, ignore it.

Some countries are banning Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies for one reason, they don't want their sovereign money to invest into a bubble item that is the volatility is high.
Imagine, the people will loose $10,000 in a blink just to own a single coin that is intangible.
They're not after with Crypto-Currency as the future of economy and trade, they just doesn't want to let their people loose their money and let western and European countries dissolve their money in the thin air.

you live with bitcoin for 6 years and have earned income? woow .. that's amazing and makes me jealous.
commenting on your statement about the Indonesian government's attitude prohibit bitcoin, I think we need not fear and worry. because today we can still feel the result of bitcoin, by exchanging it to IDR.
as long as there is no firm rule of the government about ban bitcoin, we make a chance today to continue to mine bitcoin until our wallet is full.

I looked this issue as a result and side effect of many ignorant Indonesia bitcoiners
many Indonesians, regardless how small or big their income, are evading taxes deliberately
and government see the potential of losing more tax income from mass wide bitcoin adoption
aside the obvious reason fear of laundering money and terrorism related usage
many Indonesian people (read: bounty hunters) keep telling themselves that bitcoin income is NOT taxable
and neglecting their tax duties/responsibilities while their income already past the yearly non-taxable income (PTKP)
their reason is based on the idea no regulation no tax and I keep saying where there is income there is possible tax

Yearly non-taxable income is similar to Standard Deduction in US tax law
FYI our yearly non-taxable income for singles is Rp.54 million ~ $4,150
if not mistaken US Standard Deduction for singles is $6,300 please any US citizen cmiiw
many Indonesians here do signature campaign & trading as main source income but refuse to report and pay taxes
I explained clearly in a few threads in local boards, PAY YOUR TAXES... or at least report and clear your tax matter
we bitcoiners should set an example as a law abiding citizen to pay taxes on our bitcoin income

The more Indonesian bitcoiners pay their taxes related bitcoins
The more attention the government will facilitate or discuss about bitcoin matter on the legislation level
Remember Tax will be and should be imposed on any bitcoin income and realized capital gain on bitcoin
my post started sound like a rant than a discusion... I'll better stop now

Well that's why decentralized can't be controlled by anyone even a government, you can secretly use bitcoin, but it's really unfortunate that this country banning bitcoin, are they never somewhat researched what is bitcoin and how they could make a decision to ban bitcoin while other country which obviously way ahead of this country already considering bitcoin as a commodity, opening a market for it, and even accepting it as a legal tender.

Don't let that happen. What will happen to the people who earn money from bitcoins and as their source of income? You should sign a petition for that. Im sure indonesian government will hear you out and hopefully they will totally accept bitcoins in your country.

Yeah I agree, this is just a government strategy because they know that they can get nothing from this. Maybe giving their community false news about Bitcoin didn't work so they are doing another option. Since a lot says that this wasn't an official announcement, maybe this is just also a part of the fake news circulating in the crypto world made by those who want to take down Bitcoin.

Only countries which have an authoritarian mindset, or whose governments have really screwed up monetary policy, will be afraid of Bitcoin and try to restrict its growth. An open government will see that fintechs using Bitcoin bring efficiency to the system through competition with the legacy systems of existing banks. I expect more governments to act against Bitcoin, but that is not going to slow its growth.

I think it is a bit old news, but yeah it is sad that the Indonesian government dont care about the people who are into cryptocurrencies.
May be it is too costly for them to handle the price of bitcoin because its price changes every minute and the main factor can be because of the value of the Indonesian rupiah.

It is Bank Indonesia who is setting the regulations for the crypto currency, they are going to put a ban on it in 2018. Most probably their reason is because in their country almost 66% of their population don't have a bank account and tey are seeing crypto currency as a competition for their banking industry. This move to ban crypto currency will somehow force their citizens to become more actively involved in their banking system and at least limit their options.

They are not banning bitcoin at internet level.
They are banning everything related to bitcoin.

The problem is that they have access to all banking accounts and they can easily see who is receiving money from abroad and from who. Exchanges use a limited number of bank account so it's pretty easy to learn who received or sent money from one.

Worse part is that all usage will go down the drain as no restaurant/shop/hypermarket will offer the possibility to pay with coins. Bitcoins ATMs will be gone and paypoints will stop selling coins.

E ban , if it's real and heavily enforced (and there is one crazy guy in power there) is nothing you can deal with a smile.
I'm waiting for the official statements and for the law that describes the punishments.
Will you still use bitcoin if the morons will charge you with 10 years in prison for that?

Another country is doubting bitcoin to it's future. Bitcoin may be volatile and  decentralize but I think it may do good in the future when people are starting to use it in their normal or common transactions.

I don't think developers and other supporters will let bitcoin be the same when that happens, they will be having a lot of developments for sure that will help. They are just judging the bitcoin now, not what it will be in the future.

Could you provide a link to a news article stating this?

Also, How strict are internet rights in your country? I'm sure you could work around the ban if you desired so.

Always doubt.

Here we go, another country that decided to ban bitcoin after China, but they should already realized that there is no way to stop people from using bitcoins for transactions online unless the government decided to stop the internet usage for the whole country, people could still easily sell bitcoins via other ways.

I can't understand why more and more countries are versus bitcoin, this isn't an illegal thing, it's only a digital cryptocurrency
Yes maybe is used for doing/pay illegal things, but it does not mean anything, the dollar is used too for this things.
The governments and financial institutes want to block our freedom.

I think this is a temporary act because most countries in the world can not ban Bitcoin and are watching Bitcoin as the trend of the world. If indonesia prohibits real Bitcoin, they are going against the trend of the currency

I am Indonesian, after about 6 years living with bitcoin life, mining, trading and join bitcoin community, from mining and trading i got more income and others benefit but what  happen now? bank central of indonesia will ban bitcoin, Fucking stupid  Indonesian government

Yeah it is really hard to digest because Indonesia is a big populated country if they ban bitcoin it may affect the price increase of bitcoin. Many countries started to oppose bitcoins due to its huge price increase in recent time they think that bitcoin will replace their national curreny so they are banning them. But still bitcoin can be used in banned countries because no one can trace bitcoin transactions.

I think this will not help the government in anyway. Because what we see here is random countries going down with the bitcoin. First was china, Korea, zimbamve and now the Indonesia. But anyway you should check whether there is OTC trading is allowed or not which has been made available to people of Korea now as alternative to the direct investment into ICO programs and stuff like that.

The thing is government will ban bitcoin but the trade will never stop in the country thats for sure. This actually create black spots within the countries, illegal trading of the bitcoin or more or less black market which everyone knows of. This way country’s wealth is ruined by putting into internet and then driving the market out of the country. People never pay the tax then, because it is illegal to use and thus it disturb the country’s economy in obvious negative ways.

So you see here they are actually creating the problem. And before my country’s government ban the tax they should really read my post here. Lolz!

I live in Indonesia. This is still a debate, still a rumors. If anything happens, then there is nothing to worry about, except we have to move Btc assets from local exchanges to abroad.

Another country that will be left in the dust, the problem with your government  instead of doing research, they do what mostly normal people do, they listen to the neg rap.  Governments are just people that are ruled with no brains.
I agree, they do what mostly normal people do, instead of doing research. Clearly, the government of Indonesia doesn't have the human resources to be able to adopt this technology yet.

That is so sad to hear bro, poor guys they don't see what they will missed in the future, they just let it happen without analyzing things further although I know that they have studied it well, but still they don't want innovation. That is why we are so lucky in our country because our government welcomes bitcoin but of course with a great warned for the risk it will have.

This would be sad news for many Indonesian here in our bitcoin community but we cannot help some governments really thinks bitcoin is not good and that it will only harm the economy. Maybe in future time if they will see the development of crypto currencies and realize it can help a lot of people and even a country those country will un-banned bitcoin and rather support its market.

Actually, you can not blame the governments of your own country. You can also see another China in the developing world, where bitcoin will make a lot of capital flow into western countries, and the state must curb this trend.

inb4 bitcoin crash

Either bitcoin will experience a correction from all the indonesians selling off their coins, or, they will simply find a way to circumvent the bans using VPN, Tor, etc. People will always find a way and now is a good time to research for ways to keep yourself anonymous online. Good luck my friend

the decision is not final. and I dont think I care at all. I do not think it will have much effect on bitcoin stability if that happens. I dont think the bank will be able to manage what people want. only prohibit not by legal action.

Actually...

It is quite stupid from this government to ban it.. But it won't change anything in your everyday life. Bitcoin is anonymous so... You are actually not affected by such kind of decisions.

I mean, of course it is better if you can operate legally but if not.. will nothing changes!  Wink

for global effect I think it will not be so disturbing on the stability of bitcoin and other crypto. but I doubt what will be done by bank Indonesia. maybe they will ban and not be final. I dont know much about the law. but the ban is only on banks and not from the central government.

I'm not sure the Indonesian government will really banned bitcoin. I think this is just media maneuvering and jealousy of government banks because investors are already looking at bitcoin as an investment rather than depositing their money in banks that must be in taxes

This is sad news. But this is something that cannot be avoided since governments and banks can be threatened by the existence of bitcoin. And instead of getting in and collaborate with cryptocurrency to improve services, they decide to ban it.

But the most they can do is to ban the exchanges where you can exchange your bitcoin to fiat. But they cannot totally ban bitcoin because they have to shutdown the internet to do it.

What seriously!?? Nooo. I hope that they will accept bitcoin, knowing bitcoin is becoming popular know and many people depend on it.
But what now? Banned it? Damn it! My source of living is from bitcoin and what i'm gonna do if bitcoin is banned?
I even just start, haven't get anything great and valuable here.
I hope it's just fake news, or they will reconsider their decision.

i have not heard any official statement from indonesian government.
There is not official statement yet about Indonesia government ban Bitcoin, even i didn't received announcement from the biggest exchanger in Indonesia about this restrictions. Although government ban Bitcoin we can use VPN and cash out using another method

The number of transactions in the country of Indonesia can be regarded as top ten.
Number of transaction in Indonesia not in top ten, not even in top 100 (AFAIK) it's just around 0.15% from all transactions

Very disappointing. In recent years Indonesia was thriving towards being at the forefront of technology. They are even developing smart cities, a perfect match for blockchain technology use cases. World governments are starting to realize the magnitude of the global financial paradigm shift that bitcoin is. We can expect to read more and more news such as this and I wouldn't be surprised if the USA will try to put the final nail in the coffin. I have no doubt that in the long run they will all fail.

The irony is that Indonesians are quite active here in the forum, recognizing the value of the cryptoindustry. Hopefully that is only a scare and wouldn't come to fruition.

Do you already have alternative methods to encash your bitcoins? Obviously they'd close down exchanges to prevent bitcoins getting changed for fiat.

I just hope our country don't follow suit. We are just nearby, imagine if all the other ASEAN governments get the same idea as Indonesia's.

This is really a pity. Another country quit bitcoin. Bitcoin is recognized by more and more people. More and more people are willing to invest bitcoin. The potential of bitcoin is huge. More and more places are starting to accept bitcoin payments. I think that banning bitcoin in some countries is a wrong choice. Smiley

I think the Indonesian government is not banned of bitcoin, the Indonesian government only prohibits transactions using bitcoin because the risks posed are very large. and now the government has started studying bitcoin even though it is still an issue.

Already seen. They don't fully understand it, they cannot control it so what do they do? They try to ban it. Somehow i get the feeling that the main problem here is the fact that the unbanked population could get the way to perform the transactions and it seems that someone might not really like this.

And here follows another useless fifth world government that doesn't know anything about ruling a country or economy but just decided to ban one of the few things that the indonesian people use to earn.

I'm not from that region of the world, but I can clearly feel and sense the frustration of the Indonesian people. In fact, I'm sure a lot of them have invested in btc with all they own because there's literally nothing else they can with their lives.
A lot of them work online with whatever abilities and skills they've got and get paid in btc because that's almost the only possible way to get money to their country.

I cannot understand what their government is afraid of ? As if btc will bring destabilization to  their economy or something Cheesy
It's already so messed up. A single USD is equivalent to 13500 Indonesian currency. If btc does anything, it's bringing money into their citizens' hands which they spend in the country which means more money in the economical system.

I'm not sure if it's just rumors or actually applied, but governments shouldn't ban something they have no idea about just like that.

is it true what you say? Indonesian government bans bitcoin? but according to the news I heard the Indonesian government only prohibits citizens of Indonesia to conduct any sale and purchase transactions using bitcoin, because they have the official currency of the rupiah, so instead of banning bitcoin into Indonesia, only prohibit the sale and purchase transaction with bitcoin it.

my attitude toward the government is to close my eyes and close my ears. I do not want to care about the Indonesian government, and in my opinion the forbidden is more specific to the transaction, not the mining. and if at any time Indonesia be firm to miners bitcoin, I will act.

That's nothing. The Government will eventually get the coin to be unbanned when they see the price gets to a range that makes the people seem like they can't purchase any coins.

as long they still not force to close the local exchanger, i think nothing to worry about it. even we can't adopt it as payment but at least trading activity still allowed in Indonesia, it is already good

This is a bad news, and sometimes I dont understand how the government see the problem, bitcoin has helped so many unemployment and increase the citizen standard of living, but somehow they only see bitcoin as the token that help criminal, bitcoin maybe can become the future currency, if the government banned it, the country will be left behind

But why ? There are many people using bitcoin in your country, why they should banned it ? It seems that they don't want anymore to get involve in this type of economy? I realy don't see the cause why they want to banned it. I think, they now see the increasing value of bitcoin after how many years. If this bitcoin will just cause their economy to have an wealthy country then they should not ban this kind of currency.

If this is fake, maybe the one who spread that news is one of the bitcoin investor, he/she wants to lower the price and spread fud.

There is a chance that they will force Bitcoin exchange to close. This time is different, they clearly mentioned that no financial firms should process Bitcoin-related payments, including banks. Now if banks aren't allowed to process Bitcoin related transaction, how will the exchange received and send IDR to user?

Don't be ignorant. Read the news, it's all over the places

It does matter a lot. How could we buy and sell if the banks and all payment system service providers aren't allowed to process Bitcoin-related IDR transaction? We will be forced to sell and buy Bitcoin over-the-counter (off exchange). That's a huge drawback considering our biggest market currently has a daily trading volume as high as $15 million

So, Actually what is going on in this country?
If Indonesia bans Bitcoin in their country then it's really a bad news for the Indonesian bitcoin holder, but it doesn't hamper on this platform directly. it may appear indirectly to discourage buy Bitcoin. But still a good news for the people of Indonesia that Government hasn't banned yet. so no worry.

Indonesian government shooting themselves in the foot, think they do not even know how profitable venturing on bitcoin can be, or maybe they do and just fear it'll cripple the fiat based transactions that net their tax income revenue.

This is a bad news for Indonesian who benefited from bitcoin as one of their source of income. Their government must also see the aspect how bitcoin reduces unemployment on their country. I hope their government will soon realize the importance of bitcoin on their community and the hope it brings.

Maybe they think that bitcoin may used in illegal activities like financing the terrorist, money laundering, and many more. I hope that this will not happen in my country though they already used an "open minded" approach with bitcoins and other cryptocurrency.

Indonesian government seems to be very strict in my opinion, I remember news release about one guy from Australia brought some weeds to indonesian airport, authorities wanted to jail him for about 20 years. But what is punishment to use or mine bitcoin for now? How cruel is it?

I think they have not completely banned Bitcoin yet. there are some regulations that need to be discussed.
but I hope there will be an immediate solution from the government.

Bitcoin has been a powerful tool for people around the world to earn hefty amount of resources. People are gaining economically because of mining, trading and even joining bitcoin community like you do. Most of the banks especially central banks are being threatened by how bitcoin works and how people believe in it. But we know for sure that in time, it will continuously flourish as people will continue to believe in it.

Indonesia does not prohibit or ban bitcoin in their country. They just worried about the bitcoin since in their country;
there are more than 80% Indonesian prefer cash-based and does not consider bank to manage their finance. Through this they just were protecting the interest of both parties

The Indonesian government is still appealing and currently there is still no action. but according to information that the Indonesian government will make a decision in early 2018. It's just a moment away and we all have to be ready with the impact that will happen. because Indonesia is a big country and this can all have a significant impact for the development of Bitcoin globally.

I think these are all attempted spreading of FUD's to no avail. I don't know what many get from these evil manipulations and creations. It's nothing but a calculated attempt to reduce Indonesians interest in Bitcoin and if possible the whole world because this news has been spreading without any merit for a while now.

In addition any decision made by the Indonesian government will at least affect the development of Bitcoin globally.

in many online media in indonesia is much telling about indonesia government will ban bitcoin, yes, there still not official statement of government but i heard this ban will do in next year.
i really surprise to hear from you that indonesia is one of the biggest market of bitcoin in the world, any source, i am glad and proud if it is a fact

If this will be enforced by the government then at least Indonesian people who have been in bitcoin, will experience a poverty Because the wider community already pays their income only in bitcoin.

I don't know what extent bitcoin has been to Indonesians, but I will assume that most of them are really looking at bitcoin as a day job because they are really earning profits from their trading and signature campaigns here and they even getting as high as x2 of their average monthly salary.

So in my opinion, it will really put a lot of Indonesian on a situation that their main source of income will be gone when they government decided against bitcoin. It will be tough to face that situation. It will be a very unfortunate event for them. But just like what the Chinese did after their government put a clamp, OTC or localbitcoins would be a good options for those Indonesians who want to continue with engaging in bitcoin trade.

It's just a moment away and we all have to be ready with the impact that will happen. because Indonesia is a big country and this can all have a significant impact for the development of Bitcoin globally.
yes i think indonesian government will impose this regulation by 2018, that is a nightmare for me of course i think for many bitcoiners from indonesia. as we know indonesia is the 4th largest population in the world but i think even if this regulation impose i think this will not be affect for bitcoin price globally

If this will be enforced by the government then at least Indonesian people who have been in bitcoin, will experience a poverty Because the wider community already pays their income only in bitcoin.

Now canceled, after a time, again all will return into place. As the world of cryptocurrency now has a very big influence, they will simply be unable to ignore it.

Maybe there's are the reason why they have banned bitcoin in your country ,maybe they have a purpose to make it legalize and pay taxes properly for the community income. But as you said that only the bank of indonesia banned bitcoin but not finaly implemented it's only an announcement,so the bussiness is still going on and nothing affected.

If you mine bitcoin, then you need to be careful. I understand that the police can take equipment and start a criminal investigation. Once in Indonesia bitcoin is declared illegal. Money on exchanges and purse is certainly safe. But I do not understand such a strategy of the government.

Has the government already sent an official letter about the ban bitcoin in Indonesia.
this seems to be less convincing news, as I know indoneaia have official official bitcoin sites bitcoin.co.id and indonesia also include the top 10 bitcoin users whether true bitcoin will be banned in indonesia, what is the reason that makes bitcoin will be banned in your the country.

The price of bitcoin is too high now, that's why Indonesian government plan to ban bitcoin. Maybe it's just Indonesian government strategy to make the users of bitcoin in Indonesia pay taxes for government. For me it's ok, don't worry because we can connect with bitcoin from internet connection, as long as we can connect with internet we always can earn bitcoin.

This has something to do I think with how bitcoin and cryptocurrency i China had also been banned. Some countries are following suit and are also thinking about if the pros of ot far putweigh the cons of integrating it to their economy and having it used by the populace

Bitcoin has actually never been proven to be good for economies. It is true that this closes the door for their people to do trading tho, so there are missed opportunities there.

It’s not a big deal for bitcoin its normal and bitcoin don’t care about any ban because bitcoin have already faced a lot of challenges in past and nothing happen to bitcoin it’s still very strong and popular then before because some rich countries have accepted bitcoin and they support as well so if traders and investors have increased so its mean bitcoin will be more strong then ever and these kind of ban can’t do anything so no need to worry about anything.

according to the information and statements of the finance minister, the Central Bank of Indonesia does not prohibit the circulating bitcoin but only warns the public that bitcoin can not be used as a legal means of payment in the country because it is not in accordance with the rules applicable there. In addition, most people also do not necessarily use bitcoin as a means of payment in Indonesia, on average they use bitcoin to be exchanged into the form of currency of the country and some are using it as a means of payment, but online payment already received bitcoin type. So I think it's not a serious problem, because it takes a long process also so bitcoin can be one of the legal means of payment recognized by the government. We see the next 5 years, what kind of development because the role of the community is also very influential.

bitcoin don’t care about any ban because is past bitcoin have already faced such a problem in shape of ban and now bitcoin is meatier and know very well how to handle situation so I think bitcoin is now very stable and safe nothing will happen to bitcoin and in a replace of Indonesia and china some rich countries have accepted bitcoin which give more energy to bitcoin and I believe that in coming time bitcoin will be more strong.

I think this is a temporary act because most countries in the world can not ban Bitcoin and are watching Bitcoin as the trend of the world. If indonesia prohibits real Bitcoin, they are going against the trend of the currency
Indonesia is doing wrong with itself and its citizens and banning bitcoin meant to cut off from the technology and the modernization and bitcoin has no effect on its prices while they banned it but they will feel regret in future because economists are saying that bitcoin will be the future coin and that will not be easy for them to re consider their decision and I think they must hold ban now otherwise they will lag behind.

The Indonesian government is afraid of the presence of bitcoin, just like any other country. They are afraid if their main money so worthless, because we know the price of one bitcoin can be to buy a car though.

that's really unfortunate for the government of Indonesia. I guess they will understand and act with some maturity, even countries like Canada appreciates bitcoin.
Indonesia will surely lag in economy In future because they did wrong to themselves and I don’t see any valid reason for them to ban bitcoin and what happen china banned bitcoin is still surviving bitcoin has no effect on its prices and bitcoin is not slave of any region and those countries who are banning it will come again and will beg to join again and the regretting time of Indonesia will start soon when whole world will be gathering profit.

Actually the government of Indonesia deos not banned bitcoin because they think it is illegal. They do this thing since most of their fellowmen prefer cash-based system where not suitable for the concept of BItcoin.

I must agree with you. For each time that a government bans bitcoin and may somehow lower the prices in the market it will only give others a chance to be involved in cryptocurrencies. A specific country is not necessary to claim that bitcoin is growing with its contribution.
Like for example China. They may have the most traders and miners influencing the industry but still bitcoin grew without them.

I think it is just government strategy to avoid having people's freedom in moving their money because they can't find a way to manipulate money in the bitcoin and because they know that they can get nothing from this. Maybe giving their community false news about Bitcoin didn't work so they are doing another option. Since a lot says that this wasn't an official announcement, maybe this is just also a part of the fake news circulating in the crypto world made by those who want to take down Bitcoin.

Another country that will be left in the dust, the problem with your government  instead of doing research, they do what mostly normal people do, they listen to the neg rap.  Governments are just people that are ruled with no brains.

Zimbabwe is proof that the people in society are even smarter then the government

the government isnt stupid they try to protect their cartel, and their power, why work for money like the stupid citizen have to do when you can simply make it out of thin air?

cryptos are in a zero sum game with central banks, you cant ask the froggs when you want to dry a swamp, thats against their interest.

but i think you can be sure indonesian government wont win this...thats for sure.

Once something becomes illegal is when it peaks the interest of others. Human nature tends to make people curious about things you're told not to do although early on in the game it is still to early to think about any implications that may be disastrous to BTC as they have no direct correlation.

These are bad news if it's true but at the end the people will any way use Bitcoin no matter if government bans it or doesn't ban it... I don't see it as something that would threat the BTC price to get lower or to anything bad happening to BTC because of this.

Banning Bitcoin does not mean that they couldn't use the technology behind it for for example smart cities like you said. They just would use it then in a gouvernment monitored way probably, at least this would be still an option.

Anyways, this is of course again a hard strike against the crypto world. I could imagen that they would go an similar way like China, which will lead into a more regulated way in the end.

Banning the whole Crypto currencies? This seems a type of useless as I don't how would that even work? How would they prevent everybody from not using the Crypto currencies? This is just like a situation that happened in my country some years ago when Youtube and Facebook were banned in the country but still the people were using both of them using proxies and nothing happened.

Indonesian Central Bank is only bluffing. They dislike Indonesian people holding currencies other than rupiah. They don't want us Indonesian people benefiting or being rich from bitcoin. We Indonesians will not subdue to these centralized & corrupt scumbags. I still hold my bitcoins and my other alts. I couldn't wait what they are going to do next week.

Cash in? Not hardly. Get a hardware wallet is what they need to be doing.

Yes in Indonesia they can. They can withdraw money from Bitcoin Indonesia online web trading using Bank Transfer. That's why the central bank goverment threatens to ban banks that support bitcoin transaction.

Just out of curiosity (and maybe ignorance), why a hardware wallet? Is that so you can keep sending/receiving (is a hardware wallet undetectable by ISPs and central authorities?)... as opposed to a paper wallet which might be useful to bury in the ground somewhere and create a treasure map to find it again.

This is how I see it. Correct me if I am wrong. If a percentage of the population makes a large amount of money would that money not be put back into the economy of that said country? Or does the government worried that they are running such a shithole of a country that everybody's going to flee once they get a few dollars in their pocket? I believe it is for the better of mankind. Live the way we are supposed to live without the continual pressure of the government dragging everybody down and robbing them blind.

Every fiat currency today is regulated by putting constant new amounts on the market. That way we get inflation. Inflation makes sure that everybody needs more money and keeps on working 40h or more, even if new technology should actually make us work less. Bitcoin doesn't have inflation.

This economic shift presents a bigger issue that needs to be discussed as a society. If we move to a financial system such as Bitcoin do we voluntarily pay taxes, donate to infrastructure projects or just let our roads/sewage/water plants and systems deteriorate?

Hardware wallet is to get your coins off the exchange. It makes them safe nobody can ever touch them. And it keeps the exchange honest.

How are they going to crack down on Blockchain ? It is untraceable. There is really no way to keep anyone from benefiting from Bitcoin. These banks better just get with the times and update so they will not lose even more in the end..

What a coincidence, more than 10 newbie beggars and all with 14-28 activity, you beggars think we can't see what you are doing? who is the boss of your account farming organization? let us join together, you with account farming organization could merge with my begging organization, we also have a growing community, our job is to post on every scam ICO thread and say good things for more effective scamming, I think you beggars above me are good at your jobs.
To Indonesian government, ban Bitcoin and beggars will start account farming and joining begging communities to earn more Bitcoins, don't ban Bitcoin and have your people to come to you to sell and buy their crypto, charge fees and earn money.

I think Indonesian government has a reasonable reason why they banned the company and management of bitcoin.
As what I read most of Indonesian are cash-based which they consider only cash in all traction which in this kind of trade bitcoin cannot survive because there will be small market that will cover their product.

I am Indonesian, after about 6 years living with bitcoin life, mining, trading and join bitcoin community, from mining and trading i got more income and others benefit but what  happen now? bank central of indonesia will ban bitcoin, Fucking stupid  Indonesian government

https://news.bitcoin.com/indonesia-media-urge-bitcoiners-to-cash-in-ahead-of-coming-crypto-ban/?utm_source=OneSignal%20Push&utm_medium=notification&utm_campaign=Push%20Notifications

Why would the government hinder the financial growth of other people, and why do they see bitcoin like a poison in the economy? It helped many people I know and there are more people who will benefit in bitcoin and in cryptos if the government will allow the circulation of cryptocurrencies.

actually the only prohibited to be used as payment, because the legitimate currency in Indonesia is only rupiah. so, the ownership of bitcoin investment is not prohibited, but the risk of loss etc. is not guaranteed by the government.

Instead of judging over the government of any country or their decisions I would like to accept the fact that Bitcoin has some defects which are harmful for normal citizen. Let's face the fact Bitcoin cannot beat cash till now because the transactions are very slow the fees are high and also people are getting scared frequently. All these points are enough to prove that Bitcoin is still now risky. Now let's talk about their decision as well I am sure government has thought about this decision before making it but it's true that Bitcoin has a lot of potential and is necessary to remove the corruption from any country.

and this sort of oppression is something that the idea of bitcoin goes against, resists even. the decentralization of bitcoin puts its strength in the numbers of its users, and prevents one single entity from taking control of the network without an unreasonable amount of effort and investment. ideally, i'd like to see bitcoin win over this sort of oppression, but it only goes as far as the people and users are willing to. that being said, im not too familiar with the indonesian government and how it operates, and this ban might not be the result of oppression, but bitcoin is fully capable of weathering through much more than this.

In other words trading and speculating is allowed but shops aren't allowed to accept is as a form of payment? That is still very restrictive but I don't think many physical shops in Indonesia were accepting bitcoin as a payment method anyway.

Do not worry, people in Indonesia who have bitcoins in their pocket will surely make a way to continue their bread and butter.  Do not panic.  If this is true and officially release their will be a crash for days or weeks but this will also good to some investors who will benefit the correction.  So do not worry store your BTC.  Do not sold them yet.

from what i understood in the article is that they are afraid of bitcoin being used in the wrong way, as bitcoin provides total anonymity to the person usi,g and banks and goverments will not be able to track down the money entering or leaving the country or wether it is legit or not, many countries are having the same prespective but some of them are afraid of it so they ban it, like  maroco and indonisia and russia to name a few, and others relized that they are unable to stop it so they embrace it and try to use it for their advantages.

As I understand, the government will ban the use of bitcoin as a means of payment. But to make everything clear, let's wait what the rules will look like. Whether we are still allowed to store bitcoin as an asset or not.

I can only imagine how much time you have invested in cryptos and all the knowledge you have attained that can be passed on to others, this really is a blow to the crypto community in indonesia and the crypto world as a whole as this should have been used as a platform for financial litercy. From the article it sounds like digital currencies are extensively used in Indonesian such that the governor says the ban is done to maintain the sovereignty of the rupiah as legal tender  Roll Eyes but afaik btc is in this equation as a supplementary.

Let's wait what will happen if the Indonesian government forbids bitcoin. So far the government only claims that bitcoin is not a valid means of payment. What prohibition will they set, whether the bitcoin can not be used. Then how the fate of investors who invested bitcoin.

The Indonesian government forbids bitcoin to be used as payment, because according to the legitimate currency law is rupiah. however, I believe that the government will not completely ban it, because the government is getting interested in blockchain technology, and some big banks will adopt the technology.

can not be sure to be banned or not because I live in Indonesia, it is again a lot of news about bitcoin, especially the Indonesian banks warned not to use bitcoin as a means of payment because it is still illegal, illegal in the sense still not recognized as a means of payment of store example or where online sales are prohibited to use bitcoin as a means of payment for substitute rupiahitu that is forbidden, but I also get the news that Indonesian banks want to try blockchain technology but still in wancana only

The Indonesian government is afraid of the presence of bitcoin, just like any other country. They are afraid if their main money so worthless, because we know the price of one bitcoin can be to buy a car though.
How many people here think that this will last long?
I don't feel that the government will allow Bitcoin restrictions once it gets accepted in NASDAQ.

I do not think that the Indonesian government will ban Bitcoin completely. As Indonesian citizen I know that this thing will occur but never occur as exactly as we thought. Maybe they will ban bitcoin from the payment system. There are so many things that government try to ban but it still exist and develop slow but sure.

I've seen information that the Indonesian government only prohibits bitcoin users in transactions is not so?
I myself am not very supportive with the Indonesian government statement related to ban bitcoin in Indonesia and I heard that banks in Indonesia will implement blockchain it may be good news for bitcoin Indonesia users

There are always a reason for different country if they are going to ban bitcoins. I am lucky that bitcoins here in my country are allowed by governments to circulate and we have our own exchanger for the countries fiat.

That is really bad news, but if still haven't made a formal decision then you should be happy and optimistic about that. You can still make a lot of money before btc is banned in your country. However, as I say you should be optimistic, maybe that will not happen. In my country there has been such information and now everything is fine.
