I found this extremely old Lenovo and was curious if all 4 of the old PCIE slots would be able to run 4 GPU's ... surprisingly... it did. And yes, it's a huge mess, but I'll be dismantling everything as soon as the ram for the D8P's get here lol

Believe it or not, the miner supply issue is continuing to worsen.  Not only are essentially all good mining cards gone (off retail market anyway), but now it is nearly impossible to find any mining mobo (that supports 6+ GPUs) and it's even carried over into the PSU market, where 1000-1300W PSUs typically used for mining are mostly gone.  This continues to baffle me, but I guess just goes to prove that the majority of the world still either doesn't know about or doesn't believe in the longevity of crypto. To me, this shortage seems worse than the one back in Q2'17.

The really crazy thing is not that 3rd parties are trying to price gouge (not completely against this actually, as everyone deserves a chance to make a legal buck) but it's the fact that there are a lot of people actually paying these 2x, 3x, even 4x retail prices for components.  Here are a few I have observed lately:

- 6-pack of rx 570 8gb sold on ebay for $3,400! That's close to $600/card lol, or 50% more than retail for a Vega-56 lol.
- Several USED Vega 56's selling on ebay for over $900!
- Many mining Mobo's with retail prices at or below $100 are going for over $300!

I actually ordered an Asus Prime Z270-a from Amazon for $150 but it's not in stock and no indication of when it will be in stock. I actually have another ASRock BTC board but was looking to build my next rig with an 1151 chip i got for half price. Plus, I like the the idea of easily being able to accomodate 7 GPUs with a relatively easy path to an 8th via the M2 slot.  So, end-state goal would be 7-8 1070ti/1080 with my 1500W Plat PSU. of course, I only currently have 4 70ti's but more have to come in stock eventually... don't they? ;-)

not to disagree, all sounds right, but i've got
Asus Z170-AR mobo (6 slots, not sure if you can run all six, opinions vary) at Microcenter for $79 minus $40 MIR.
It was a few weeks ago, though, before eth went crazy again.
Not the best mobo, but will do for a small built of 1070ies.
I am out of power in everything except dishwasher/dryer.

Maybe I should entice wifie to buy a double decker washer/dryer (LG or something), then I would have both space and power (220V even) to run a couple more rigs

I'll check on monday when I go back to the office. I just thought it would be funny to try. The orginal PSU is like 250w or something as well. The computer is just so slim and tiny it's funny to see all the gpus hanging off it.

What about temps compared to open frame with no forced ventilation ?
Did the seller send the case with Delta AFB1212SHE fans ?
Also what is the fan noise compared to the reference or other GPUs  doing 80-100% fan speed .

Sweet thanks man! Thats exactly what I meant- that's super kick ass temps are that good sealed up like that. I might get one to play around with as well.

I was also toying with the idea of waterblocking everything, but at the end of the day... I'm just too lazy to do all that lol

These enclosed builds have very good temps with the Delta fans.  I've built some Rosewill L-4500s and temps are not a problem with good air flow.

Idk how to describe how loud it is. It's way way way louder back when I started mining eth, cramping 4x reference 480 in my full tower at 100% fan speed. Doesn't even come close. Have you seen genesis mining videos where people need to shout to hear each other? It's getting close to that as I have 25 of them running.

I used 3 deltas for a 6 x RX580 I built inside a Rosewill case. There is a reason they call them screamers I ended up turning it into an open air rig, my garage was quiet and nice again. Until I received my first S9

I am planning to stack  20 of those in single room , problem is that the farm is located in residential area so being quite and hot is better than loud and cold , i might need to check if i can lower the rpm from bios of find a quieter option or ditch the whole case idea .

The K17 case arrived with Delta TFC1212DE which i had to run it at 25% from the Bios to be acceptable , surprisingly it was much quieter when the case was full with 8 GPUs compared to only 4 GPUs , the woof sound was much better  

My open air farm have around 82RX + 8TI +6GTX in a room that measure 12*3 meter with no forced ventilation , only Mosquito  Window Mesh , i plan to stack the cases  in 5*5 room and install large low rpm exhaust fan.

Yeah, I have heard mixed views on that Asus z170 and i dont want to risk building on a "problem" board for fear of potentially wasting many hours trying to get over 4 GPus running on it.  Plus, I am not lucky to live anywhere near a Microcenter and pretty much every decent piece of gear I've found on there... well, pretty much ever... has been limited to in-store purchase/pickup only. Makes me wonder why they even have a friggin website but whatever lol.

I am also still awaiting an electrician's assessment of my house's capabilities. I am currently running 4 rigs and based on my limited understanding and an analysis of my breaker box, pretty sure I can get a modest rig added in my garage. but that will only work until maybe June as there is no ventilation in there.

Also, if I feel confident I have enough power to add that garage rig, I might just go ahead and build it on that ASRock H81 BTC that I already have. Since I only have 4 1070ti's anyway it wouldn't make a difference and at least I could get it up and running and not have to wait for that 1151 Mobo to arrive.  If I go that route then i could eventually use the 1151 Mobo to build a 7-8x 570 rig.  Lots to think about... crazy thing is that i have partial components to build 3 rigs but not 1 would be "complete". But I think first priority is getting those 1070ti's online.

I was surprised to see you can still buy the 7-slot MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon boards. They must have restocked a few following the big demand early last year. I was just able to recommend that board to a friend of mine (against all odds I actually found a reseller that stocked it)...

Damn, these look good. I'm glad I only bought 2 of the Onda D1800 6-slot boards because this is a superior (looking, anyway) solution.

That said, I can't find enough GPUs to populate the mobos I have, much less the mobos I want...

Yep, 5x PWR-in. It actually works fine with 2X PWR-IN. Powered from server PSU, nice and cheap
Ram is DDR4L. In march we will have a new version coming out that has DDR3L ram.

Also we will have an ATX power supply version coming out. But people like the server PSU version more right now. Server PSUs are cheaper and easier to get.
