I was surprised to see you can still buy the 7-slot MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon boards. They must have restocked a few following the big demand early last year. I was just able to recommend that board to a friend of mine (against all odds I actually found a reseller that stocked it)...
I have still about 22 of the popular ASUS Prime Z270-A brand new, allocated for a new project in March. If my group decides to go full riserless for that project, we would let go all the Z270s. https://www.asus.com/sg/Motherboards/PRIME-Z270-A/That is a very nice board and ASUS has a very fair RMA policy. The Asus Z370 is now out and was on sale at NewEgg a week or so ago. |

However my Inno3d 1080tis, some of them positioned between the fans hit 80 degrees while some are 65.
My Inno3d 1080ti's are absolute dogs - running 10ºC higher than all others in an open-air cases. I think it's a universally bad at cooling. |

Regarding the Z370-A... can anyone confirm for sure that these will support 6-8 GPUs like the 270 does? I'm assuming so since it seems to be just the next generation board of the same family, but looking to verify. It looks like Newegg does have some in stock currently... However, if I am reading the specs right on the 370, it seems it will ONLY take Coffee Lake CPUs and therefore not backwards compatible with Kaby Lake, which is what I can get a very good deal on. I need to build another system with an AVX2 CPU to support expansion of my Burst Mining operation but dont really want to pay a premium for a Coffee Lake CPU that literally won't provide any extra benefit over the i5-7600 I am considering. |

Hi, so far I can only review the website. I can say it's quite high quality site. Ordering process went smooth, paid with PayPal. I received a confirmation immediately by email, very professional. For Phil and others here running Nvidia 10xx rigs... I have what is likely a silly question but since I'm coming from only AMD rigs to date, thought I would ask to make sure:
Is it true that GPUs like 1070to, 1080, etc can easily be optimally tuned for mining solely through the settings in MSI After Burner? Meaning... with my rx 470's, I needed to mod the bios with memory straps in order to get good mining performance from them. Is this piece not applicable at all to Nvidia GPUs?
If the above is true, are there some standard starting points for settings in After Burner that you can recommend? I am relatively familiar with AB as I used it for a while with my 470s, but some of the settings typically mentions for Nvidia tuning did not seem familiar from what I did with the 470's, although maybe that's just due to terminology differences.

In march we will have a new version coming out that has DDR3L ram. Also we will have an ATX power supply version coming out. But people like the server PSU version more right now. That's one of the main benefits and huge draws to team green, the ease of tuning them though Afterburner. Set it, forget it. No bios flashing or strap mods. And for your z370 question I don't use them but bitsbetrippin migrated to using those so yes, they support 8 according to them and all their builds. |

My house is full of rigs with nowhere to expand ;( Just be glad you're electric is cheap enough to warrant you maxing out your house. I had to move into a warehouse because electric was just absurd @ $0.32/Kw/hr Now that you're maxed out, you can actually decide to expand to a second location or not to. But you have choices buddy, you've got good choices. |

The BIOS on an nVidia card is encrypted so no flashing. In terms of the best settings, it depends on the algo you're going to run and what your goals are for energy consumption and cooling. I typically start at +150 core, +500 mem, and about 60% PL (100-105 watts) on my 1070 Tis and tune from there depending on the algo. Some will be more dependent upon core OC and others will be more dependent upon mem OC. If you're running SMOS, I think the Gravity Master FAQ has recommended core/mem settings for specific algos. |
