No, the price is kept up by people willing to pay that money for them, not by the price of mining cost.
People are definitely not paying that much because they would feel like they have to sponsor vps miners, but because the coin has interesting properties and attributes.

I agree that VPS are getting less and less profitable unless they have 16 core at least, and add up the fact that GPU miner looks promising.
