If you have much money try to invest in a lot of coins, I think it's can reduce the risk of losing your money. Once again every investment has risk and cryptocurrency is a very high risk because their price is very volatile. But you can try Bitcoin of course, that's the mother of coins. Second is Ethereum, a lot of tokens use ETH for their platform so maybe it's can grow up more. Then you can choose the other coins, my opinion is a cheap coin (ETC, Waves, XRP, NEO, etc), because we can get a lot of coins with a cheap coin so, we can get profit more than the other. But once again it's just my opinion and crypto price is very volatile.

For long term investment, i would choose to invest into an ICO or in a new ICO. But you should study the possibility of success of the ICO and also see if it is a scam or not.
At the start of trading of an ICO, a lot of them are going to see a drop of their price. It is sometimes better to wait and buy the coins/tokens on an exchange. Not all ICO is like this, but lots of them.
But the price usually recover after some months. "Usually" but sometimes no...

I agree with you, we can choose in the top 10 in marketcap if we're want to make a long-term investment.
