So far I have had no success getting HoboNickels-qt to run on Linux, Fedora 20.

Sorry about this.  Any specific issues?

Have you used any other QTs that work?

If not you may need to install some dependencies.

This guide may help

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=212621.msg2233135#msg2233135

Oh, yeah. No problem with bitcoin-qt, it works just fine sand-alone.

Incidentally, I also tried the maxcoin-qt, and it has the same problem.

Of course, I'm using yum instead of apt. I'll make sure I have everything I can get from that list and report back about how it works.

My fallback right now is to install a Debian distro in Boxes.

Thanks. I do want to create a more static exe for linux in the future. But still working on coding right now.

You may need the newest boost for HBN as I complied it with 1.55 but if you compile yourself you can use most version without issues.

Nope. No luck. I'm just going to have to try it in a Debian box.

It might be worth tring out nvc and see if you can compile it. Our coins are very similar. If are you are able to, and find a thing or 2 that needs changed for HBN. I would be appreciative, for a PR.  I've got a bit of stake right in the wings....

Is this still minable?

Absolutely. Difficulty is still relatively low, and can be solo mined well with even just 1 mh/s.

No luck on all fronts. The farthest I have progressed is with trying a Qt Creator build, but I seem to be hitting a wall with non-free code that is not available in the Fedora repos. I see that error has done some work compiling bitcoin-qt specifically for Fedora but I don't see that a lot of other work has been done in this area. This tells me that pretty much everyone is still quite reliant on non-free code, including the Bitcoin Foundation. Something that I would like to see cured eventually.

Hmmm. If you want you can send me a PM with some specific build issues. I have only built on win 7 and Ubuntu so far, but I am willing to try another flavor of Linux when I get some extra time.

irc.rizon.net has now banned 'bitcoin' clients.  I will be removing the irc code in version 1.4. It will be replaced by seed nodes.

In the mean time you can stop using irc by starting with switch -irc=0. If you need a node to connect to please PM or ask.

If you have the know how and desire to run a seed node, please let me know. I will pay a nice bounty for it, but you have to get it up.

Thanks!

"seed node" means a always on wallet accepting RPC connections right?

I contacted you, not sure about the seednode, how it works, and how I can allow it, but if it's the same as the "addnode" strategy, this should work.
Also, changing the IRCd server can be nice.

I'm running arround 20 differents coins, and I'm always blacklisted by this irc.rizon.net because of too many connexion by one IP address.

Sorry I may have caused a bit of confusion.

If you want to be a simple seed node, there is almost nothing special you have to do, other then run the client, with a decent number of connections. You do have to have a static IP though.

So if you can be a normal seed node, just PM me your IP and I will add it to the list.

If you want to be a DNS Seed node, do a few google searches and let me know if you think you have it setup. We can test.

DNS Seed Node added(Thank you Meska), 4 hard coded seed added. IRC turned off by default.
https://github.com/Tranz5/HoboNickels/commit/9546af3219c1d2377b31324a4584ad2e65cb317b

Would like one/two more DNS nodes and 5-10 more live nodes.  Let me know if you can help.

I'm interested in knowing the current inflation rate, how many coins are minted daily through PoW and how many from PoS?

Thank you.

https://github.com/freicoin/bitcoin-seeder/commit/ad7435de415957bfe50dbecf567e11d38860e6ea

If anyone can suggest a working source for DNS seed I will setup it.

Here's my living node: 123.176.103.130

To create a DNS based seed (I'm not sure about the words) you need to have a domain name, and after create a subdomain.
This subdomain will have some A record pointing to IPs address running HBN daemon.

For example
seed.domain IN A IP.HBN.1
seed.domain IN A IP.HBN.2
etc...
you can add some AAAA fields if the daemon have IP connectivity.

It's not complicated.

For me, I'm running 3 HBN daemon, on 3 differents servers.
Code:
host -t A seed.scrypt.io
seed.scrypt.io has address 5.39.90.17
seed.scrypt.io has address 91.121.177.181
seed.scrypt.io has address 176.31.250.94
and :
Code:
seed.scrypt.io has IPv6 address 2001:41d0:8:b5e::1
seed.scrypt.io has IPv6 address 2001:41d0:8:9c11::1
seed.scrypt.io has IPv6 address 2001:41d0:1:f2b5::1

If you are running on static IP the daemon, you can give me the IP and I can add it to my "seednode", but if you're running multiple daemon on multiple dedicated servers, you can create your own seednode.

Thanks for the easy explanation.

wing_hk The difference in that code is it will auto find other nodes and add them to your DNS. where as Meska has hard coded them.  In any event I will add your IP to the Live seed list.

Thanks!

Thank you.

I don't have the exact stats on this, I'd have to scan the block chain. But I can tell you that we are right on par with where we would be with PoW only.

PoW started in July '13  approx 200 days ago times 14,400 coins a day = 2,880,000

We are at "moneysupply" : 2901892.33080000,

But I have noticed we are getting more PoS, so I expect the inflation rate to pick up slightly here in the next few months.

Ok it's my pleasure.

Thought about writing the "getpeerinfo" results into ns record automatically but just have no time for this.

Hi. Just discovering HBN. I intend to buy a handful and plant them in my new V 1.3 wallet.
After two hours though I don't have a single active connection. Is there something I can do about this?
