A product is very important for a project because it means a lot of things to the potential investors. For example, it may mean that the project has really the capacity to produce in reality the ideas that they are presenting through their whitepapers and in whatever meetings, forum, and seminars they have attended. It may also mean that the project is really dedicated to pursue them. Some projects are actually stuck in letters and words, not in action. It may also mean that the project and the team are really working and functioning. These are all vital to potential investors.

pIt is extremely important or even a must for ICOs project to have a clear offered product. Because most investor look for the real product when they are about to invest their money. The product offered convinces the investor and it means that the projects is well design and has a specific goal to reach.

I have read an article related to this topic, it says that the product should match this criteria,
1. It should be thought thoroughly and well design.
2. It should be clear from the first page or step, state the idea of the products clearly.
3. Marketing for the ICOs projects can be tough, means that you should be sure 100% of your product and make the investor believe in you.   
4. The problem of the product should be solved as fast and good as possible. It is a part which quite important.
5. legal disclaimer, it should not against the laws.

Actually there are many to full filled in designing the products, but I form it in to five only.

It is based on what they present either physical product or web based project. As long as it helps and can truly show what to expect from their project. Just like proposing a business plan to investors and how well it is needed.

Of course it is. If you want investors to invest in your project, you have to show them that your project is worth investing. Business minded people know if a project is a potential success or a fail and so the project progress is needed. Of course it's important. The better the product comes from a project created by the team developer, the better the quality of altcoin they will offer. It will also attract investors to invest in their ICO. If a project does not have a product then investors will not want to invest in ICO, especially if the team developers just want to make a profit from ICO so they make a bad project. Selling something without product is called scam. Selling coins with no function is like giving someone a piece of paper and telling them to use it to purchase something. The project determines the value of the coin. Without it, the coin is worthless.

Existing product and existing company is important for a project or an ICO to invest.
