I always felt iXcoin would be on one side and BTC on the other but I couldn't figure out which one China and Russia would choose.

The west are the colonists or colonies so that means the US and Europe will choose iXcoin and Russia and China will choose BTC.

The latter is eager to launch a new currency so I'd expect them to make the first move on Bitcoin leaving the U.S. little chance but to find an alternative, a twin.

Yes:  ORIGO!

I think Russia is gonna dump the dollar.  I've been saying for months China and Russia are secretly buying up and hoarding Bitcoin.

All of the monthly "China Bans Bitcoin" scares comfirm this theory for me.  By scaring people, temporarily, they both, keep the price down and shake out coins from people that are too scared to hold.

This is especially true in China where people have recent experience where in 2007, China easily and successfully banned a very popular crypto currency, called QQ.

In China, if the govt decides to ban Bitcoin, you stand to lose everything you put in it so that's why we get a huge drop on any legit looking [banning Bitcoin] rumor out of China.

That said, I expect one more big scare probably out of China in the next few weeks and most likely one last drop below ~$350 before we start our big run to $2,000+ for Bitcoin [later this year] and an even more massive run for alts.

And that's when I expect iXcoin to rally well above $1.

And then they [the World] will know our name!

How close was I late last year? This close: https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurashin/2017/02/21/this-is-the-worlds-first-cryptocurrency-issued-by-a-hedge-fund/#29c7042360b6

While Craib won’t reveal performance numbers or assets under management, USV was sufficiently impressed to lead a $6 million round this past fall. The company also received $1.5 million in seed funding, led by Howard Morgan, founder of the highly successful hedge fund Renaissance Technologies, in April.

From the desk of Numerai Revisited:

Quote

I actually read this article a day or two ago! It's a good read, but I'm not sure we're "there" yet. There's a lot more interesting smart contracts that will turn into "smart algorithms" or some-such until people are able to figure out how they work and trade against them. To me, it seems very very unlikely that someone creating a smart hedge fund will not eventually trade against it anonymously once people invest in it.

Be careful of shysters who claim to be working in your best interest. If someone cannot clearly explain how they make you money, then YOU are the way THEY make money. Until we have blockchain-based smart contracts, take stories like this with a HUGE grain of salt.

Normally, encryption kind of messes up data to such an extent that you loose all predictive structure after you encrypt something. But Numerai has a very special form of encryption that enables it to actually pass data to the crowd and that's the big innovation of Numerai.

With all due respect to Numerai [and Norman Packard], something doesn't smell right.

e.g. ...

<in the voice of the entity (I) who created/runs the "very special form of encryption thingy">: I love Kellogg cereal. Today, I will buy X amount of Kellogg shares knowing full well that within 48 hours its price is gonna rise thanks to the use of my "very special form of encryption thingy" blasting data to my special astute investors.

<three days later>

Fuck me in the ass! Like WTF, only 11.4% profit? Fuck Kellogg's! Today I'm going to buy X shares of World Wrestling Entertainment AND Premier Exhibitions, then tweak my "very special form of encryption thingy" just a tad prior to blasting the el pumpo to, again, my special astute investors. According to my calculations performed on my Casio calculator, I should have no prob recognizing no less than 18.1043% on the ROI meter.

I'm well-versed with Nash, but don't have a clue as to which automaker produced IXC.

That Nash almost looks like a Shriners' car.

In December 2010 Hal said Bitcoin would need a second layer payment system (*cough* sidechain) lighter weight, more efficient, faster, etc.

A few months later, lo and behold, the first bitcoin clone pops up (at a time when only a few people in the world new how to clone bitcoin) is a bitcoin twin and the creator's name is Thomas.

Pop quiz:  What was the name of that coin?

Just more coincidences.   Roll Eyes

Actually there is a very good reason for Bitcoin-backed banks to exist, issuing their own digital cash currency, redeemable for bitcoins. Bitcoin itself cannot scale to have every single financial transaction in the world be broadcast to everyone and included in the block chain. There needs to be a secondary level of payment systems which is lighter weight and more efficient. Likewise, the time needed for Bitcoin transactions to finalize will be impractical for medium to large value purchases.

Bitcoin backed banks will solve these problems. They can work like banks did before nationalization of currency. Different banks can have different policies, some more aggressive, some more conservative. Some would be fractional reserve while others may be 100% Bitcoin backed. Interest rates may vary. Cash from some banks may trade at a discount to that from others.

George Selgin has worked out the theory of competitive free banking in detail, and he argues that such a system would be stable, inflation resistant and self-regulating.

I believe this will be the ultimate fate of Bitcoin, to be the "high-powered money" that serves as a reserve currency for banks that issue their own digital cash. Most Bitcoin transactions will occur between banks, to settle net transfers. Bitcoin transactions by private individuals will be as rare as... well, as Bitcoin based purchases are today.

Vlad, don't think for a second that I don't know what you did there.  Wink

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Selgin

Quote
Selgin's principal research areas are monetary and banking theory, monetary history, and macroeconomics. He is one of the founders, along with Kevin Dowd and Lawrence H. White, of the Modern Free Banking School, which draws its inspiration from the writings of Friedrich Hayek on denationalization of money and choice in currency. A central claim of the Free Banking School is that the effects of government intervention in monetary systems cannot be properly appreciated except with reference to a theory of monetary laissez-faire, analogous to the theory of free trade that informs the modern understanding of the effects of tariffs and other trade barriers. The free bankers argue that, viewed in light of such a theory, financial crises and business cycles are largely attributable to misguided government interference with freely-evolved and competitive monetary arrangements, including legislation granting central banks exclusive rights to issue paper currency.

Selgin is also known for his research on coinage, including studies of Gresham's Law and of private minting of coins during Great Britain's Industrial Revolution, and for his advocacy of a "productivity norm" for monetary policy—a plan that would have policymakers target the growth-rate of nominal gross domestic product at a level that would allow the overall price level to decline along with goods' real (unit) costs of production. According to Selgin, by preventing mild deflation in response to productivity gains, monetary authorities risk inadvertently fueling unsustainable booms or economic bubbles, setting the stage for consequent busts and recession.

His twin brother is author and illustrator Peter Selgin.
