This is something wrong with this statistics.  As far as I know,  around 76% of ICO failed, but not all of them are scams. Some didn't collect enough, another part has internal problems like Tezos and some of them couldn't release product, but that's not a scam

Actually it isnt 80% its almost 95% of the ICO are scams that is why we need to do a lot o research before getting involved with these ICO projects because most of these projects are just created raise funds from the investors and going to runaway after getting millions of dollars from the people. But researching wont save us from these scams, because it will only lessen the risk of choosing scam ICOs,even those legit looking ICOs are turning into scam.

The high rate of failed projects is a worrying factor to be cautious when you are investing in fancy projects as most of time it will fold up in a couple of years and they team behind it will move away with the millions they collected through initial funds and if there is more projects like these, you need to worry about investing in it unless the team has a proven record.

Don't like it 1 bit, I dislike anything that tries to slow innovation What's so funny is not that long ago newspapers and mainstream media tried to convince people not to use twitter and facebook because they were just some internet fad. But now the tech companies are part of our daily fabric and have become part of the old guard, hmm isn't that funny. Wasn't it only 2 years ago that twitter was on the verge of going out of business because they weren't making enough money from ads ? And look at how facebook stock has dropped recently with all the bots and fake accounts . Okay guys keep trying to slow down innovation, Bitcoin & Crypto is here to stay.

You are very too far from reality, it should be 90-95% of these ICOs are scams, there are less projects that will succeed because investors are getting more picky with these new projects because to what they have experienced from the past that they are getting rekt because of these scams who are stealing millions of dollars from the people!

This statement is true to some extent, as many ICO tend to take money of investors and run. Due to these ICOs only social media has imposed a ban on ICO ads as they are potential risk to new users.

Saw this study on twitter... https://twitter.com/Zeex_me/status/978981735101878272

I've seen a lot of people asking about how many legit ICOs there are, so I thought I'd share

Quote from the article: "The study begins by breaking down ICOs into 6 groups: Scam, Failed, Gone Dead, Dwindling, Promising, Successful. “On the basis of the above classification,” they wrote, “we found that approximately 81% of ICO’s were Scams, ~6% Failed, ~5% had Gone Dead, and ~8% went on to trade on a exchange.”

"Scams were defined by researchers as “Any project that expressed availability of [an] ICO investment (through a website publishing, ANN thread, or social media posting with a contribution address), did not have/had no intention of fulfilling project development duties with the funds, and/or was deemed by the community (message boards, website or other online information) to be a scam.”

DYOR people ...
ICOs today are just getting created to get funds from investors and then runaway after they have raised millions of dollars, that is why it is too risky to invest with these projects because you wont know if they are using their identity because they could easily link anyone's profile to their website, claiming these people are with them and the truth is they arent, that is why theres no assurance with doing research if these people arent using their own identities.

Yes because the ICO does not have any legal framework. But starting today, many countries have legislated for ICOs in their countries. Google, facebook, twitter they also disagreed with the scam ICO rampant on their website. Deceive users, so they have made a decision to ban the Crypto ads. Within a year, I think ICO will be managed more closely.

therefore we must be smart in choosing a good ICO and how to know the ICO is a SCAM or not. I admit it's a bit hard to see which ICO scam and which ones are not.
Invest in ICO by purchasing digital tokens that are owned and developed by startups that move in fintech at the beginning or / before listing and before trading in the market is more risky when the project fails and the token price can be dropped / cheaper than ICO price. But by continuing to learn to analyze and look for reviews of this star up (star up = new company that move in digital technology) then we will have advantages and knowledge to analyze the market of digital currencies and digital tokens.
And if we do not dare to take risks until whenever success will not come to us, because success is always accompanied by effort and risk. Because basically all business and everyday activities that we do each there are risks.

Scam ICOs will be existing not unless there will be some regulations abou these ICOs which us unlikely impossible to happen because we are in a decentralized community, cryptocurrencies are decentralized that is why theres no way to stop these scam ICOs, even those people who are doing research still getting scammed because these projects can easily pay those ICO rating sites to promote their scams.

One should participate only the ICO with strong team and by strong i mean the professional skills of the team especially the CEO/Founder. Scam ICO you can judge that by reading their whitepaper because that would be just copy paste and might include false information. People don't bother to read the documentations of the ICOs.

In my own experience 1/10 ICOs is only achieving success when it comes to the sales, hardcaps ICOs are getting rarely these days because most of these new ICOs are scam projects who will try to convinced your shit to invest and then will runaway after they have taken millions of dollars from the people who are noob enough not to do researching before getting involved.

I couldnt disagree ICOs today are mostly turning into a scam after they have raised millions of dollars from the investors that is why it is harder to tell what will happen to these ICOs in the future, unregulated things will always be some disadvantages that is why we need some governance if we want these ICOs to be completely scam free..

You cannot avoid these schemes because ICOs and cryptocurrencies are unregulated that is why we cant do anything about these scams, all we can do is to dig up some good informations so that the risk of investing to these scams will be lessen, even the experts are getting scammed too,so there are no assurance at all because these are professional scammers and they can almost fake everything.

Indeed,ICOs nowadays are most scams and you cannot find which is which because these people are getting better with faking up profiles, getting more quality websites, and promotional videos, whitepapers are getting faked too, almost everything looks legit and you wont know they will scam people after the ICO has ended.

Indeed it is,but it is bigger digits because only 1/10 ICOs are reaching hardcaps and most of these projects are failing because these developers arent serious with the developments they are just for the money that they can raise from these projects, scammers will always find their way.Good looking ICOs which looks legit are turning into scam sometimes after stealing millions of dollars from the people so we need to be more vigillant.
