I do not understand how people could earn a substantial amount of GRC by crunching on those projects? I tried it for a couple of days and I just sort of gave up since it was literally impossible to earn enough to even cover my electricity. The maximum amount that I have earned is about 1 GRC over 8 hours.

VERY old and VERY low performance GPU. Try upgrading to something modern, at least a mid-upper range 9xx or preferably almost ANY 10xx series NVidia (except the 1030) if you want to be effective on NVidia-orientated projects.

For reference, on the AMD side, I show somewhat of a profit currently and for a long time have been at least covering electric on my R9 290s and HD 7870s that are running MooWrapper - despite TONS of competition there and the R9 290 being a VERY power hungry card (the HD 7870 isn't AS power hungry, but it's a tossup on keys/s per watt to the R9 290)

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

Hey can I get a bit of advice, I'm pool mining and currently working on the Collatz Conjecture project. The last project I contributed for (and this was a while ago 6+ months) would submit a project package every 10mins or so, but I'm getting an estimated time of 4 days! Does that seem right? I'm with grcpool.com and hashing with a 970. Also I'm using my CPU for NFS@Home and the package time there is 50mins x3, on an i5 3340. So I'm just worried I've set myself up wrong with GPU hashing.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 should be a fine GPU for crunching Collatz. Still, I am not sure what the problem is - estimated runtime is 4 hours for one Collatz GPU task? That doesn't sound right, you want to make sure that you aren't crunching any Collatz tasks on your CPU (takes a long time and not really profitable).

So in other words gridcoin is doomed because someone somewhere (in a chat I guess because I didn't see anything on  reddit or steemit or any other website) had some kind of a discussion about cannabis. What kind of bullshit is this?

The fud on gridcoin is getting more retarded each passing day.
As usual, FUD creates more FUD. That crap is contagious like a yeast infection. It started with a superblock, now it's cannabis, tomorrow we'll have a thought-crime. Always the same slippery slope.

I had a joint in college many years ago. Did i just kill gridcoin by admitting this?

to users from BOINC projects:

* CSG, NFS, Rosetta and SETI
* the next 2 days are crucial, don't lose your $GRC for owed research :-(

https://github.com/Erkan-Yilmaz/GRC/issues/7

added section:

* "So, what are the possible reasons for the delay/mag zero this time?" of the superblock

* World Community Grid had problems (see here), but these were starting at around 14:00 UTC on Tuesday, July 18, so about 40h after consensus-building of the SB was already in progress.
* SETI had its usual downtime Tuesdays (I know at least that they were offline at 2017-07-18 20:00)

* The CENTRALIZED component and NOT OPENSOURCED harvest server made trouble (file names not correct, ...)

A user in IRC asked:

* "I'm interested to learn more about why projects are missing and what's causing SBs to take so long to be found if there's a place I can do a bit of reading"
