Did anyone update on the last BOINC version (May's version)?
I get all kind of strange behaviors while using the grcpool and I was wondering if anyone else had any problems if they updated.

Gridcoin Developer Update June 18th, 2018

Hello everyone and welcome to another Developer Update from the Gridcoin team. I’d like to remind everyone that these posts will be created every two weeks unless a wallet update is pending that week. Since my last Developer Update on May 7th, we have had two leisure releases: 3.7.12.0 contained a massive amount of changes, including a completely new GUI, RPC overhaul, and changing to a 64 bit installation. 3.7.13.0 was a patch to fix a voting issue in the GUI that slipped through testing of 3.7.12.0. Now, to cover some of the new changes our developers have been working on in the last month:

#1160 by @tomasbrod contains the code for our next block version 10, which will implement CBR. Expect heavy modifications to this PR as full scale CBR implementation testing begins soon.
#1088 by @tomasbrod removes the public and private beacon keys (used for solo Proof of Research) from the Gridcoin config file and moves them to the wallet.dat file. This will make it less likely for users to lose their beacon keys, as the information will be contained in a file they should hopefully be backing up (their wallet.dat).

#1139 by ravonn fixes the issue that has been plaguing exchanges (particularly Bittrex) for several months now. This issue was extremely hard to pin down, and I’d like to credit @jamescowens for ultimately finding this “needle in the haystack”. The problem facing the exchanges was that when a command was issued to the wallet daemon over a RPC SSL connection, it would hang and cause other commands issued afterwards to get caught up waiting for the first call to timeout. Because the RPC calls were not multithreaded, this created a massive backlog of waiting requests that would grind large wallets using RPC over SSL to a halt.

#1121 by @ifoggz continues his work towards a cleaner, more optimized Neural Network. Many old deprecated and unused .NET functions were removed and the resulting code is a little easier on the eyes. These changes are not only helpful for our current NN implementation, but will be useful for the upcoming rewrite of the NN code to C++.
Testnet has started moving towards full CBR testing. We are also still testi

I consider myself a "true" holder of cryptocoins, and not a "hodler" who will sell after a pump. I'm planning to hold coins forever until I use them to buy services/products instead of turning them into FIAT for a better price I paid.

However, I fail to find the usage Gridcoin has or could have in the future. For example, are you planning to charge GRC for organizations who want to enlist in your whitelist? Maybe another use I cannot think about? Whatever your goal, I can't find anything in the announcement in this thread.

PS: Currently just 2% of my crypto-holdings are in GRC and I'm looking for reasons to increase that.

Gridcoin — State of the Network — 25 June 2018

Welcome to the 16th Gridcoin State of the Network Report. The SotN Report is a fortnightly report organized by parejan and jringo. It compiles useful news and statistics that the community can use as they see fit.

We’re back! We have reset the release of the SotN to every other Monday. To keep from overloading the community and news section, we’ve posted only a few major updates from the past few weeks.

Dead coin?

Why do you think so?
Gridcoin is far from being dead.

The only thing is that this thread here on BT is not being moderated.

Gridcoin Leisure Update 3.7.14.0 Released https://medium.com/@gridcoinnetwork/gridcoin-leisure-update-3-7-14-0-released-125a11a8c17d

Today we have a new leisure update for you. This version includes a lot of “under the hood” changes, but there are some improvements for the average user as well.

Notably this release includes a better time to stake calculation method, thanks to jamescowens. Also the Neural Network runs much smoother thanks to many optimizations by ifoggz.

Talking about "staking" calculations, I haven't managed to find info about one thing: Do I need to have the wallet running all the time? What happens if I shut it down for 1 min? for 1 hour? for 1 day?

I think I've read somewhere in the official guides that the stake's age doesn't count, do I remember that right? If so, then am I having a chance to stake every time a block is forged and I have the wallet running? I have 500 GRC and for 2 months now I haven't staked anything with about 50%-60% uptime.

PS: Initially I didn't have my wallet locked at all, but at some point I locked it and I'm unlocking it for staking every time I boot it.

Right now grc have no future. Other coins are more profitable and have no reward lag (so you have no need to wait 2-3 weeks). Here is a good idea with boinc, but no ecosystem, no roadmap, stupid wallet. That's all made grc not interesting for investors and we have $0.04/grc.

Byteball World Community Grid Distribution Is Back On Track!

Increased reward: the reward size will be raised to $1 for 100,000 pts.
10% bonus to team members: all WCG “Byteball.org” team members will receive the bonus on top of the reward itself.

New WCG users need to edit their settings
If you joined WCG after May 23 you will need to change a setting in your account in order to start earning Bytes.
To do so:
After logging in to WCG, click ‘Settings’ in the top menu and then ‘My Profile’ in the menu on the left

2. Scroll down to where it says ‘Choose to display or hide your data’ and make sure the first radio button ‘Display my data’ is selected, then click ‘Save’ at the bottom of the page.

What was the issue?
EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that came into effect May 25 resulted in WCG closing all access to the API. This in turn caused a temporary interruption to the bot operation. Byteball applied for an API token the same day the API issue occurred. The WCG reaction was fast too, though as it happens, the corresponding legal procedures have taken much longer than expected. Eventually, WCG decided that no API token will be necessary, the APIs will stay publicly available but users are now offered better control over their data.

Why the WCG initiative is worth supporting
As you know, there is no mining process in Byteball. Instead of burning energy to ‘prove work’, you can use your computer’s idle time to help scientists solve the world’s biggest problems in health and sustainability.
If it’s the first time you have heard about Byteball supporting the IBM’s WCG initiative, this story by @Suirelav is also worth reading, or see the original WCG integration announcement from Byteball.

Hi there!
Let me try to answer your questions.

Staking: You don't have to let your wallet running all the time to accumulate interest (and eventually GRCs from BOINC-mining). But you can't stake a block to get your earned interest onto your wallet if the wallet is offline. So it's best to let the wallet running as often and as long as possible. Additionally you need to unlock your wallet for staking (checkbox "on").

I can't help regarding the stakes age, that's too technical for me  Wink
500 GRC unfortunately are are very low amount to stake. With that amount you are lucky if you are able to stake once in 6 months  Sad You need more Gridcoins!!

I hope i was somewhat useful...Greetings, djoser!

Hi!

I think Gridcoin has a future. Of course other coins are more profitable if you just want to make quick bucks, but Gridcoin has a totally different approach compared to common POW cryptocurrencies. It's almost unique.

You are right regarding the ecosystem, here Gridcoin needs definitly more development.

You are wrong about the roadmap! See: https://www.tiki-toki.com/timeline/entry/759095/Gridcoin-Roadmap/
We have an official whitepaper, too!

Regarding the wallet there is to say that a major improvement is on it's way and it's not less good than any other qt-wallet of other coins right now!?!

So please do your homework, before posting your opinions. But i guess you just wanted to troll, anyways...

Regards, djoser.

Recently it was good surprise to receive Distributed Compute Credits
I got 106.24714171 DCC
the same amount as I had in SPARC in my wallet

Good to know that while mining Gridcoin you can get additional bonuses!
