Serious gaming site cannot be hosted in the blockchain. It would be too much of a burden. The share that represents the gambling could be listed and traded in the asset exchange though.
We also need an secure forum to host social contracts for the newly issued shares and assets.

Well, he has to wait when Service Providers implemented. This doesn't make much sense to use centralized website.

We still need to have some linkage to the real world. At least for now. If shatoshi dice can operate as a centralized website then a Nxt dice can. The only difference is that satoshi dice is regulated by some government meanwhile nxt dice needs not be.

We should have a line up of 3-4 great assets/ companies ready for the asset exchange upon official launch. Are you ready to be the first IPO in Nxt network and the first company listed in Nxt asset exchange ?

Alias-squatters could use Asset Exchange to raise funds for their future business that will bring billions in 5 years. In this case everything will be completely transparent.

It would take time. People is not going to spend money on some promises alone. You have to have something to show first. Perhaph, we should ask nexern to incorporate his Blockchain explorer and make it the first asset of Nxt network. He could be a millionaire upon the IPO Smiley then he can totally focus on finishing Nxt client.

+1000

great idea.

An IPO based totally on NXT....where anyone can buy a piece of the company.

This would give good practice

Nxt is so attractive, so I follow the thread every hour except for sleep.

Is she from the Crawling Tiger, Hidden Dragon movie?

Dunno. I saw her in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Flying_Daggers

LOL.  Reminds me of Alan Rickman's line  "I read about them in Time magazine"  in Die Hard.

To be on the safe side, I wouldn't advise enxern to quit his day job - but if he can take a non paid vacation, I guess it will be very easy to raise the funds to pay him generously...

Count me in!

I am pretty sure I am going to quit my job at least temporarily to devote my full time time to Nxt if the official launch goes smoothly.

that's always the best way to begin....but i'm sure someone is definitely watching...so they target the Exchange, Forum & Network

The weakest link:

1) Forum
2) Exchange
3) Network

There is a proper & meticulous campaign against Nxt (I know i;m stating the obvious)

come-from-beyond: is it normal that sending money via api takes 20-30 seconds? What is the timeout I should use on this? (to send the request and receive a response)

If u set "pushThreshold" above zero it will be faster, but less nodes will see ur transaction. U can set it to 100000 to send transactions (and blocks) only to nodes hallmarked with big accounts.

Edit: U should use deadline >= 24h, just rebroadcast transactions lost in limbo (broadcastTransaction API call).

When I last looked (probably v0.4.0), it appeared that the code sent to a set of nodes sequentially, which could presumably be very fast or very slow (depending on the connect/read timeouts configured, and the state of the other nodes at the time). Is there any reason why this can't be done as parallel tasks?

Nxt will be held in some sort of time limited escrow account....the Nxt never really leave the Asset exchange.

I could be wrong...

hat's way more likely is that some big stakeholder cashes out, price will crash.

great opportunity to buy cheap coins.

That will give it even more value as the coin spread into more hands.

Yes, parallelization is more sophisticated. Current implementation is called Nxt Reference Software. We could optimize networking by using binary protocol instead of JSON, but this would increase entry barrier for newbie programmers. The same is applied to other parts of NRS.

We will need a protocol that any company has to follow to make an IPO on Nxt network and listed as an asset in the asset exchange.
The minimum you will have to do is:

1. state why your company has value; your company mode of operation; total shares you re going to issue
2. your responsibility to the company and the share you are going to issue.
3. basically, it is your responsibility to persuade Nxt holder to trust you and your company

This will be included in the social contract on your IPO open for the public in a secure forum.

There is a fee for IPO and asset listing. I think it is 1000 Nxt. So if you can't persuade people to buy your share, you will lose that 1000 Nxt. If you finish your IPO successfully, your share will be listed in the asset exchange. Form that point on, the price discovery process will determine the true-worth of your company/ idea.  Of course if you run away with your money, your share will hit zero and being delisted.

That is skeleton of how I think the asset exchange will work.

Automatic Public Nodes Update Script

I just wrote a simple python script that fetches a list of public servers I collect in a text file and puts them into the NXT server config. This is the node file.

You can get the script from my node server.

Usage is quite simple. The only prerequisite is to have a symlink to the config file (web.xml) in the NXT rootdir:

Code:
~/nxt$ ln -s webapps/root/WEB-INF/web.xml configfile

I find this more elegant than drilling down into the dir explicitly. If you do not like this very much, alter the configFilename variable in the script.

When ready, just start the script:

Code:
python updatePublicNodes.py

Hope this reduces some hassle for node admins.
