Is there anyway to calculate total amount of darkNXT in existence?

Walk the blockchain, adding up the balances of accounts that don't have an assigned public key?
Is there a API Call for this?

This will include accounts with known passphrases (where the public key doesn't exist yet in the block chain due to no outgoing transactions). I.e. notdarkNXT.

People say your passphrase should be strong and at least 60 characters long. So it will be resistant against brute-forcing. But what is brute-forcing actually? Is it sending a random passphrase to the nxt network and hoping it will open an existing account with funds? and what happens if the random passphrase is a new one. Does this open a new account (and increasing the size of darNXT)?

What is the consequence for an account without a public key?

Significantly easier to brute-find a passphrase that opens that account, but still impractical with today's technologies. I just mean that there will be lots of nxt which look like darkNXT (no public key), but which someone has put in cold storage with known passphrases and so aren't actually darkNXT. The current consensus advice to these people is to spend at least one nxt to secure the account.

All,
What a day again, but at the end, clients popping up, source code released, Wesley was here with new work etc...

Just to remind you all what a great community this is and I want to thank everyone for his great efforts.

We will succeed.

That said:

The only black spot today was dgex and its founder, as I cannot find myself in all what is happening there, and as I cannot accept the dictatorship of one person on the exchange and the forum I will leave the forum nextcoin.org.

I hope many will follow because staying there is supporting his acts and supporting that kind of behavior.
Only the best is good enough for NXT and imo dgex and its founder doesn’t fit in there.

NXT is more than some code and a client, it involves people also, it involves a way of thinking, what happened today with dgex can’t be further away from what NXT stands for. NXT is strong and getting stronger every day, and it will survive without dgex and nextcoin.org.

You can find me on https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/ where I shall maintain 24/7 support and helping people out if they having trouble

I don’t want to split the community but what happened today was a bridge to far and harmed us all, in favor of one.

Gooooooooo NXT
Pin

For those of us that are new.... I just set up my first NXT account today.  What happened with DGEX exactly?  Are they an untrustworthy exchange now?

Just caught up with the thread.....bloody hell, my head hurts.

That was an interesting day:

Bad stuff:
Disappointed by DGEX, confused by market, annoyed by trolls, people leaving NXT team, sold short into rising market, bought back just as the market fell, got punched in the nuts by one of my kids - still hurts........

Can someone just cut out the hassle and give me a huge pile of NXT so I can retire and not deal with this anymore?

Oh well, moan over.

Good stuff:

Market seems to be wobbly but stable so far.

Source code is getting positive feedback all over, no real interesting problems found so far.

Lots of new people showing up on the fora, means lots of new peeps coming into NXT.

Lots of attention for NXT

I'm going to say (cautiously) that today was, on balance, a success for NXT.

Onwards and upwards....

Not so much untrustworthy, but they introduced fees very suddenly today with (afaik) no warning at all.
Been trading since the start without fees (except on fast withdrawal) but are now charging for trades and all withdrawals.

Fair enough, they gotta make money, but the timing could have been a lot better and it came as a big surprise to a lot of people, including me.

its a very good thing that they are doing this. it will discourage whales from trading back and forth with each other inorder to manufacture price.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting that so I decided to pull all my NXT and BTC from there.

In the process of getting my Ripple wallet funded to try https://peercover.com/#/simpleGateway but still waiting on the confirmation from Justcoins -> Ripple, which seems to be taking longer than it should.  I might have done something incorrectly, not sure.

i hold  my nxt on dgex.

As do I. They are probably safe enough on DGEX, but having to pay fees without warning is annoying when u're used to trading for free.
I don't mind the trading fee, btw, 0.17 % I can live with, but the withdrawal fees seem a bit out of order.

@Larue...I seem to recall that the guy running nxtchg threw his hands up in the air and quit earlier today.
Edited above line because he hadn't, nxtchg.com is still up.

Alpha software is such fun  Roll Eyes
please send me the acct number you sent the NXT to. Did you set a trustline big enough to handle the deposit amount?

James

Just want to say thank you to James for getting peer cover moving again - a bit late because I was offline - can confirm this seems to be nice service once working despite its Ripple overtones...

Yes, the site is back to normal.

There was a phishing attempt, nothing got stolen.

The "hacker" feverishly requested a withdrawal from my own account Smiley

Source code is getting positive feedback all over, no real interesting problems found so far.

Would you mind providing some links to the positive feedback?

It's commendable the he/they kept the promise by releasing the source code, but the code is a miracle, meaning it's a miracle it actually works  Cheesy

Take it you've already gone thru the bug thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=397183.0 ?

So far, nothing exciting, even the trolls are having a hard time finding fault....

Somehere in that thread is a summary of positive feedback, can't be arsed looking for it right now.

Trying to figure that out. Apparently I need a wallet name ...
Does an ID or DL need to be provided before using this service?
