Apparently I'm also a scammer, because I use dollars which I know the be worthless.

Dollars although they are fiat and have basically zero intrinsic value are a medium of exchange in which a huge percentage of the world accepts as payment.

How many people or businesses do you know that accept ixcoins?

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

You're only a scammer for using dollars if you disagree with the guy who embezzled millions of them from a bank and then let the FDIC cover the charges, thus making himself rich with no actual work that deserved the pay.

Just like you're only a scammer for selling ixcoins if you disagree with the guy who stole Satoshi's work, and then pre-mined over half a million coins, because he wanted to get tons of profit for nothing of actual value.

+1 Well said.

Yes,

Still ~170 domains out of millions ain't much.

However to sort that out I would launch a DNS backup service with blacklisting for gov's apprehensions. Therefore all the users would need to do is to point at one of those backup nameservers.

ie.
(...)

Been done.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_DNS_root

Not that I know of and not in that page at least! Backed up DNS is NOT an "Alternative DNS Root", not even a DNS Root at all, it uses the pretty common TLDs you're used to; .org, .net, .com, .uk, .us... not some mumbo-jumbo like ".web", ".my-fricking-stupid-tld" and alike.
All it does is to keep a backup of its own lookups and prevent a domain to be resolved to a blacklisted IP Address.

Let me explain better;

1.2.3.4 is a backed up/blacklisting nameserver
2.3.4.5 is a plain regular nameserver
7.7.7.7 is the feds IP that shows you a page with an eagle an redirects you to a youtube video with a sad story about a woman holding a mic.
8.8.8.8 is the real IP of thefreakingwarez.com
7.7.7.7 is blacklisted at 1.2.3.4

MAFIAA puts a lawsuit against thefreakingwarez.com for "IP" violation.

The feds request the root servers to redirect thefreakingwarez.com to 7.7.7.7

John uses 1.2.3.4
Ann uses 2.3.4.5

2.3.4.5 passes forward a nslookup from Ann and it returns to her 7.7.7.7 - so her browser will open the eagles and the youtube sad story
1.2.3.4 fetches 7.7.7.7 from the internet, but as it is a blacklisted IP it denies such entry, using its last resolved IP for that IP as result, so John will still get 8.8.8.8 and goes to see his warez site.

But to implement a 'backed up DNS', you have to run your own TLD servers, exactly what the alternative DNS root(s) are.

Nope, "root servers" are for TLD's and this backup doesn't have or create it's own TLD's, "google.com" to it is the same as "google.com" from your ISP.
Basically it just filters the output, doesn't "create" it.

Back to Ixcoin I guess.  Looks like we're seeing some strong buy support at .0036 again.

I don't get it. Who is buying?

Buyers are ppl that realist that the value of ixcoin is curently underpriced and will charge back over 0,004 btc within few days or so..

Value of ixc can be easily calculated comparing mining of both btc and ixc, theres almost no math required to realise that ixc is underpriced, especialy now when its hitting like 0,0001 btc.

I don't care how much costs to mine ixcoins. I think ixcoin is still overvalued. Digging wholes in the desert is also costly but it has no value for anyone.

For example namecoin was also neglected and seamed worthless, but now its at 0,03 btc per nmc, compare when that happens to ixc.

u buy now at price of 0,001 for 10 btc, thats 10 000 ixc, and wait for it to hit like 0,02 margin, then sell.
you would earn 10 000 x 0,02 - 10 = 190 btc (cca 2000 $)

Who thinks namecoins are worthless?
Namecoins can be used for getting domains. Bitcoin is used for trade.
What is ixcoin used for?
Yes, it could be useful for trade too, but why would anyone prefer ixcoin over bitcoin?
if you have 10 usd and want to purchase an item with a chain currency, the merchant will charge you 10 usd (1 btc or 100 000 ixc, the buyer doesn't care). The buyer will prefer to hold 1 btc over 100 000 ixc simply because it is more widely accepted.

2 different forms of free-money: Freicoin (free of basic interest because it's perishable), Mutual credit (no interest because it's abundant)

Namecoins can be used for getting useless non standard domains. - fixed

They're non standard and they're useless now, but they can be very useful in the future.

We've committed several changes to Branch 0.3.24.1.

These changes include a switchovr to new difficulty adjustment algorithm at block 20055. The current block count is 19960 so we should hit this count in about ~2 weeks. After that, difficulty retargets every 24hours with max increments of 10% and max decrements at 400% (uses Solidcoin's code). The aim is to achieve a much more consistent block rate.

On 09/01/11 00:12:51 UTC (in one week), the client will switch over to a new Ixcoin-specific pchMessageStart peering marker from the original Bitcoin marker. This change was recommended by a few although we haven't had reports of any issues with this yet. Better safe than sorry.

This will mean that all Ixcoin users need to update their client within 1 week. After that, their clients will likely not be able to communicate to other updated nodes on the p2p network due to the new marker. Blocks would also be rejected as they wouldn't include the new difficulty algo.

We wanted to have the marker and diff algo switchover together at a particular blockcount, but this might not work if some peers have switched over to the new marker and cannot update blocks on other peers using the old marker.

The changes are detailed here : https://github.com/ixcoin/ixcoin/commit/df30a348d0f914412a5a248f282afdd7ade95dbd

The IRC host is also now changed: https://github.com/ixcoin/ixcoin/commit/d8808bdf8eb109a25389b1745069955115c2940a

Any comments/reservations/suggestions would be appreciated at https://ixcoin.org/forum/index.php?topic=71.msg358. Anybody who can test this code, please try and get back to me. If we don't get any objections to the new code, we'll upload the new builds very soon.

Thanks!

Translation: "Once I've gotten all of coinhunter's code copied over and the current difficulty adjustment completes in about 25 days. Come back to mining ixcoins because ixcoins has much more to offer than all alternate block chains. Come back because we've fixed everything. I.E. COPY, PASTE, RECOMPILE. See you guys then"

Regardless of the whole underlying motive behind creating Ixcoin, I suspect that the copying of Solidcoin's difficulty change algorithm might very well affect Ixcoin's exchange rate.  All else being the same, if the change were implemented right now and given a few adjustment cycles to ratchet down, the exchange rate should be roughly 1/3rd that of Solidcoin (96 coins per block vs. 32).  I'm kind of tempted to buy a few thousand Ixcoins out of theorycrafting alone.

I think Alloscomp's calculator works for determining what you're looking for.  You just have to mentally substitute "Dollars" for "BTC" and "Coins" for "Ixcoins" in the results table.  I think there's an additional factoring in of 50 BTC per block vs. 96 Ixcoins per block that you might have to do too, but I can't really think this early in the morning Smiley

If you're considering it the readjustment wont be fore like 22 to 25 days.

Hey smoothie, I have several thousand testnet coins. I'll sell them to you for .001 BTC/per. Maybe you can turn around and scam someone out of .002/per if you are wise about it.
