I would highly recommend starting at least difficulty 128 - 512. Difficulty = 1 will be absolute chaos when I'm guessing 50~100 GH/s coming just from I0 Guild. Miners are hundreds of times faster than when Bitcoin began at Difficulty=1.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Why would anyone complain about extra coins at absurdly low difficulty? It will go in minutes so whats the problem?> |

When halved every 2016 blocks, it doesn't make crazy numbers with a lot of useless digits. 64 or 51.2 I0C/block would have been better though That's the only reason I can see |

huge number of orphan blocks and chain splits due to blocks going by every few seconds. it'll make the currency unusable for anything without a large confirmation count until it settles down. |

in the initial stages if you just want to accept i0coin but don't want to fiddle with a client, just wait for doublec's i0coin exchange to launch and get an address there. that's still the only place i've ever held ixcoins  |

I'm currently mining the i0.btcguild.com test pool, and there's an unusually high number of rejected shares (like 50%!). Anybody else seeing this?

Too be expected to much hash power pointed at low diff is way too much for the *coin client to keep up it is designed for the 6 per 10 minutes ideal not per second like is happening now with that chain. Ah, so we're "overrunning the buffer" so to speak? |

With the code adjusted to be 48 coins per 5 min and re adjust the difficulty every 7 days (2016 blocks), the inflation rate should look like this:
While I do feel a faster confirmation time is good, but is it a really good idea technically? IIRC, there was some discussion about why it wasn't made faster in the original Bitcoin protocol and this was due to storage limits and network inefficiency resulting from forks/reorgs if blocks are generated faster. |

one of the problems with ixcoin is that we don't really know when the genesis block was created. satoshi proved the bitcoin genesis block was no earlier than jan 3, 2009 by putting in a newspaper headline. ixcoin's genesis block has nothing to help verify the date. see: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36218.msg447180#msg447180if I0coin wants to eliminate this (small, in this case) risk that the genesis block has been getting mined for a long time now, it should include something similar to what satoshi did. second question ... I you were to include a gpg signed contract in the genesis block with both the days newspapers headline and a list of bounties that will be awarded would that solve the problem ?
Having a transparent amount of coins purely to bootstrap adoption is key as well as bounties that late adopters can still claim, maybe by a hardcoded bounty royalty where extra coins are generated to be awarded over the life of the currency.
The real key is transparency.

I0coin has ambiguous pronunciation and ambiguous spelling. It will be really hard to take off if it keeps this name. One thing going for ixcoin is that it had none of these problems. It's probably too late, but I thought I'd throw it out there. Since you decided to have the address start with a j, how about something like "jitcoin"? |
