Great news for Counterparty over the last few days. I was wondering where all the discussion takes place. Is everyone on Reddit or Slack? Not much here.

Following with interest!

First heard about Counterparty in summer 2014 at the Bitcoin meetup in Silicon Valley. Now got more involved and would love to experiment with the token creation feature!

The most topics about Counterparty is discussed in the official counterparty forums on https://counterpartytalk.org

It is not extensive discussion there but much more than here. At least, you stay up to date following the topics on countpartytalk.

The idea of running Ethereum smart contracts on the bitcoin blockchain sounds problematic now. I know that smart contracts can be killed. But Ethereum needs to be forked to bailout smart contract holders. Smart contracts seem to be inherently insecure. Is it possible to fork Counterparty in this way on the bitcoin blockchain?

well written and tested code is not inherently insecure.  Roll Eyes

the only problem here is people releasing untested code (apparently even aware of some issues) and not being patient.

No code can be proved to be bug free no matter how well tested.

I was trying to point out one big difference between Counterparty and Ethereum. Counterparty is running on a blockchain that cannot be forked. This is good.

But if it is really true that (all) smart contracts are a "security nightmare" then I have my doubts about Counterparty's implemetation of EVM.

not being able to prove something is bug free is not the same as being inherently insecure.  in fact something can contain a bug and be secure.

for example it is secure that this is a bug:

Counterparty is running on a blockchain that cannot be forked. This is good.

The Bitcoin blockchain can definitely be forked, if the economic incentives justify it.

Ok. You are right. I was thinking in terms of a relatively small importance of Counterparty compared to btc. We cannot expect the bitcoin blockchain to be forked because of some Counterparty trouble.
