I am trying to install the Counterpartyd client on a Windows machine. I have followed the instructions: http://counterpartyd-build.readthedocs.org/en/latest/BuildingFromSource.html#on-windows. I am at the "Running from Source" step (command: C:\counterpartyd_build>C:\Python32\python.exe run.py server), but I get the following error in the cmd.exe box: ++++++++ Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\counterpartyd_build\dist\counterpartyd\counterpartyd.py", line 397, in <module> int(config.RPC_PORT) ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: '' During handling of the above exception, another exception occurred: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\counterpartyd_build\dist\counterpartyd\counterpartyd.py", line 400, in <module> raise Exception("Please specific a valid port number rpc-port configuration parameter") Exception: Please specific a valid port number rpc-port configuration parameter ++++++++ Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I am so excited to get Counterparty installed!!! Can someone please help troubleshoot this error message? Any ideas? Feeling pretty frustrated. Add a port to your counterparty.conf in AppData/Counterparty folder. I use port 4000. Yes, in your counterparty.conf, try adding: rpc-port=4000 I modified the setup code so it doesn't add this rpc-port= line anymore (it shouldn't matter though, since counterparty should use the default if it's blank) A big thanks to both Patel and Xnova. However, sadly, I am unable to locate the "counterparty.conf" file on my machine. It is not inside of the "counterparty_build" folder anywhere. Also, I've tried to delete the "counterpartyd_build" folder from C:\ and re-install, but I'm still getting the same error. Also, when I try to run "run.py tests" I get a different error, as follows: ======================================ERRORS========================== ERROR collecting dist/counterpartyd/test/test_.py dist\counterpartyd\test\test_.py:45: in <module> > raise exceptions.BitcoinConfError('Put a (valid) copy of your \ E AttributeError: 'module' object has not attribute 'BitcoinConfError' -------------------------------------------------Captured stderr--------------------------- C:\counterpartyd_build\dist\counterpartyd\test\test_.py:125: SyntaxWarning: name 'tx_index' is used prior to global declaration global tx_index ============================1 error in 0.47 seconds========================= Maybe the two problems are related? Your further assistance is genuinely appreciated. Thank you!

Anybody working on securing Cryptsy adoption?
Why do we need a centralized exchange? Once the gui client for counterparty is released should we not be able to trade BTC/XCP directly there? If we can put out a user friendly working decentralized exchange out there that, ahead of the likes of nxt and mastercoin, it will be a huge incentive for people to use our system and we should benefit from the price as well. Secondly, central exchanges like cryptsy will be able to added bitcoin forked projects quickly but setting up 2.0 coins will be harder because they will have the write more code for it.

New investors will come from adding new exchanges. Not everybody is comfortable running software like counterparty. Also, what if they are Mac users? At some point we will want a path from XCP -> fiat. Getting on a centralized exchange not only allows new blood to come into the XCP world, but also to convert XCP for fiat.

Likely the web wallet will be completed soon and a mac wallet available much before an exchange like cryptsy takes out the time to integrate XCP

Good point, but it's all about bootstrapping. How many people have heard of Counterparty, know where to go to download the client, how to use it, have a full bitcoin blockchain (as opposed to multibit, etc)? How many people have heard of Cryptsy and use it regularly? It's a great way to bring new users in. Also curious, I know of the bounty for creating the desktop GUI client. Do we know if anyone is currently working on one? (Sorry, I came to the party late and haven't gone through the first 60 or so pages yet. Feel free to school me!)

I am wondering if perhaps the problem is that the instructions are missing a step for the Windows Installation. For example, if you look at the Linux Installation instructions it has a section "Installing" and then a section "Creating a default config" and then a final section "Running from Source". But in the instructions for the Windows Installation the step "Creating a default config" seems to be missing. Was it forgotten accidentally, perhaps?

hey I was downloading blockchain, etc and doing counterparty install to be able to get that order! James I would have probably been more at ease if it was fulfilled, only because I don't know where that 2248 XCP went. It didn't get returned. I am thinking it may get returned after the expiration. Which should be tomorrow.
