hi there; first post on xcp thread but i'm quite enthousiast even if late  Grin

I'd have a questions (for devs maybe ?)

is there a way to have several people managing one xcp wallet but where none can spend without everybody authorizing the tx ? multisigs or something ?

I want to start a project using xcp with escrow; so the wallet would be managed by me + escrow where we need each other approval to make any action with the wallet. Is it possible ?

thanks a lot and gl

We're working on this... Stay tuned!

My biggest concern (what I learned today) is the "MULTISIG_DUST" amount that gets added to every transaction on the exchange. I don't understand why this is necessary in addition to the fee of 0.0002 BTC. The trades I was doing (XCP for tokens) always had a fixed fee of 0.0002 + "(2 * MULTISIG_DUST)," regardless of the size of the order.

Even though the dust is recoverable as explained below this should be an automated process. If the user has to jump through some extra hoops to recover this BTC, its more like a rebate than a refund, and if they can't do that then the trade fee is effectively .000356 BTC.

Today Counterparty transactions are encoded into multisig outputs on Bitcoin mainnet. This is why you see the multisig dust beyond the mining fee itself. OP_RETURN could be an option for certain tx (e.g. simple sends), even @ 40 bytes, however, it appears certain pools (BTC Guild) don't mine OP_RETURN tx on mainnet, so you run into potential tx delays. This is why we just stick with multisig encoding here, for now at least.

We will be implementing redeeming of this dust into Counterwallet itself at some point in the next few months (see https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterwallet/issues/318).

Regarding displaying this fee on the exchange page, I've added an issue to address this, https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterwallet/issues/353

Thanks for your input here!

Hmmm. Are they running an old client? Otherwise, they are praying to the XCP gods.

Yes I agree.. XCP seems to be immune from a lot of the flak the altworld is receiving in general. The price hasn't really budged in a month (despite some ups and downs) which is better than >50% of the top 20 alts can say.

Have you guys seen Dogeparty? What do you think about it? It seems like a carbon copy of Counterparty.. Not even any pictures of doges or anything.

It's faster and cheaper than Counterparty. Looks like Counterparty will lose a lot of users.

Mmm I dunno about that. Being backed by the doge standard isn't much to brag about these days. They have lots of work to do before they come close to catching up.

But wanting to get in on a "Counterparty 2.0" at the beginning hell yeah I'll burn a few doges.

Where I have to hand it to them is a "Dogeparty" does sound a lot more fun than a "Counterparty."

This doge burning could provide more value to doges, and boost its price, which could bring the hash rate closer to that of Litecoin. I'd like to see Litecoin do the same cloning of Counterparty, I even suggested that in one of the threads a month or two ago, but it looks like Litecoin is left to fend for itself and will eventually lose users and miners to Dogecoin. Now that Dogeparty gives additional value to doges, it will not surprise me if it happens.

There will always be faster and cheaper copies.
After Dogeparty, last one is ClearingHouse XCH using viacoin.

cheaper copies are only created to have popularity with the same brand name

Copies are made and that is good. Each copy has some changes and different rout of development.
That has been the case of the so many PC typs in the PC revolution, the so many internet sites doing the same thing in the bubble, the so many social networks copying from one another (YASNS), smartphone apps, etc.
It usually challenges the leader, and steers innovation.
It is a good thing for the entire ecosystem... and definitely for counterparty.
would you rather counterparty being an obscure platform that no-one takes interest in its development? Of-course not....

Why is nobody using Counterparty betting feeds to offer binary options and other trading tools? I'd really like to see that happen, for bitcoin and alts especially but for other things too.

This is a post I made elsewhere touching on Dogeparty and what it means to Counterparty.

I am invested in Counterparty so when I look at Dogeparty, I look at it a bit differently that most people as my first thought is what effect will it have on Counterparty.

For Dogecoin I think Dogeparty is fantastic. Doge has a low hashing rate and the inflation makes it worse all the time. There was a figure out out recently that Doge could be 51% attacked at a cost of $450 for whoever pointed the hashing power at it and away from Bitcoin. Perhaps these features:

- Create coins
- Crowdfund
- Pay dividends to shareholders
- Decentralized exchange
- Peer-to-Peer betting (binary/cfd)

Will help spark additional interest in Doge and prevent such a low cost attack.

Doge has one of the most active and ingenious communities of any coin I think. Certainly in a sea of marketing terribleness, Doge did something new and exciting and they have continued to innovate and lead the way. Dogeparty is a natural extension of that and it will be a great fit.

I'm even more excited from the Counterparty side. I would be thrilled to see Counterparty forked and placed on all blockchains that wanted it. If I had to choose a blockchain to put a Counterparty clone on first, it would without a doubt be Doge.

There is little to no overlap of the Counterparty and Dogecoin communities. The very things that attracted early investors to both projects repulsed the other group because the projects were basically polar opposites. Now these two groups of early adopters are being brought together by technology. There will be much more crossover in the communities. More people will fully understand how awesome the Counterparty technology is, which is a big deal because explaining Counterparty to a Bitcoiner is similar to explaining Bitcoin to someone that has never heard of Bitcoin.

EDIT: All Counterparty clones are also really good for the main project. It is the very definition of free marketing. As people come to understand the technology better, they will invest/diversify into Counterparty. I see very, very little risk of current Counterparty community members pulling money out of Counterparty to invest in a clone that largely rides on the Counterparty devs to continue developing, on a blockchain that is less popular than Bitcoin. My hope is that soon every blockchain has Counterparty attached to it and the weird thing is blockchains that don't have Counterparty on them.
