I believe the developers must have made up their mind by now.

Guys I see your point by saying we need illustrations that make people connect with vertcoin.
Please do not bring this into ridicule. There are some very serious graphics with nice messages.
Stand off this astronaut guy or this too childish comic stuff.
DOGE coin was successful because it was more or less the first in the place with a funny message. Nevertheless, it had quite some support in its early stages that made it boost.
What should be a core message of every picture is integrity. I don't see that if we on the one hand publish serious pictures with a very ambitious message and on the other hand throw out some astronauts and whatever...

I agree. For payments in a store for instance I'd prefer something abstract over a cartoon character.

Here's my entry for it, I can do some revisions on it, if you have anything particular in mind. Let me know what you think. I also have a higher resolution, if you are also interested. Let's go vertical!

Wow, excellent !  Wink + 1

+1 here, perhaps replace crypto images with FIAT currencies? Go above and beyond crypto. As a potential merchant, I'm careful what my products is linked to after spending years creating goodwill.

Would you trust Geico any less with something as serious as insurance because it uses a funny gecko in its ads? Harris Bank had "Hubert the Lion" for many years. You can have both integrity and an emotional connection. Thing is, I doubt if Dogecoin would be successful without the dog. I'm not saying we need a dog but we do need to humanize the mysteries of cryptocurrency and make it approachable for the average person.

We won't get far with the "better than bitcoin" message. We need the support of the Bitcoin community eventually (and some of Vertcoin's community will also be working towards Bitcoin adoption)

It also doesn't make sense for the average person. Does Toyota say "Better than Honda" or is it confident with itself? We don't need to use Bitcoin as a crutch to support our message.

"Money Made Easy" or "Money Make Simple" or "Payment Complete" or something that is neutral and the person doesn't have to think about it.

That's what the part of me that worked for P&G says, anyway.

Azure Vertcoin Pool

DDOS reisistant P2Pool Node

http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/

To connect to this P2Pool node simply point your miner at:

URL: stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171
Username: Your vertcoin address
Password: Anything

Sample configuration

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171 -u VbNPoxNeiNg6Bj9RwjjS4GazDbKLgUqNDP -p X

Fast facts

1. P2Pool nodes are all part of one single, big, distributed pool
2. When any p2pool worker on any node finds a block, everyone on all the nodes gets paid their share
3. There is no pool wallet, and hence no payout threshold. Payments go directly to your wallet
4. The distributed nature of p2pool resists DDoS attacks

Decentralize the hashrate!

Vertcoin mascot concept:

We could use the idea of 'vertan warriors' mixed with the 'verdant' idea, so lush, bountiful, and fertile combined with some awesome vertan warrior.  The image could be an attractive and cute girl who is some kind of mythical warrior and proudly wears a Vertan shield, and has an awesome ninja vertan headband and has natural green+leather clothes combined with a touch of ultra high-tech gear, some super cool futureistic wearable technology, such as a visor with a silver cable that runs seductively around her body.  She is situated in a verdant environment, beautiful green trees, lush foliage, as well as spectacular backdrops such as steep mountains in the distant background to provide a sense of 'epicness'.  In the images it's a sunny day and everyone who sees this Vertan warrior is spellbound by her beauty and general fantasticalness, she could be called the Vertress?  Her Vertillisiousness?

I'm not a graphics guy, but maybe someone who's got great skills can work on something using these ideas? Smiley

We could then all talk about her as if she is a real person lol and get a meme going.  We just need an awesome image.

some points from http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/1xddaq/ideas_suggestions_etc_going_forward_my_take/:

  • Yes, Vertcoin is anti-asic.. but nearly 100% of the population doesn't care The average person doesn't care about ASICs (or even know what they are). We have got to move technical speak out of the Vertcoin vernacular if we want to really connect with people. What does Vertcoin mean to the average person? People care about jobs, money, security... What can Vertcoin do about this? (Much of this is what cryptocurrency can do about it.. in this way we are making people associate these neat features with Vertcoin.. So instead of distinguishing Vertcoin from Bitcoin we are equating "the new money" with Vertcoin.
  • Organization: The first thing we need is a way to get organized. A subreddit doesn't do the job. We need a way to organize tasks and manage time. To see what other people are doing and to see what needs to be done. This should be something like Zoho where we can not only post tasks with due dates (and penalties for being late) but also create help desk tickets for bugs.
  • A way for people outside to connect. Let's take a step beyond what is expected with a coin and really connect with people on different levels. The vertcoin website should be the main portal to the vert world. How about a toll-free number and support email prominently displayed? Most people won't call.. but it instills trust and gives the impression that you're here to stay. It's $5 a month. Putting an email address at the header also makes people feel secure.. to be able to contact someone if they have questions. And how about the ability for them to easily open a support ticket in case they have questions? (This could be handled by multiple people)
  • -The story. Learn from Dogecoin. Why is Dogecoin so successful? Because it is the first coin the creates an emotional connection with people, and makes the difficult seem easy. We need a way to do both. How to emotionally connect? Stories. What is the story of Vertcoin? How are we going to connect with basic emotional needs? Bitcoin? Story. Litecoin.. not really. Dogecoin? Story.. And Vertcoin? No story yet.
The story could be a re-hash of the parts of the Bitcoin story that have worked for it. What makes Bitcoin interesting to the average person? What do people care about? Bitcoin means freedom. Ok, so the story of Vertcoin is we're building a system to make you financially free. We are your heros and you can help us help you!
  • I would suggest the following: 1) develop a mascot that looks like Astroboy.. Young, cute, big eyes, friendly-looking, with clean light pastel colors. Put him in a little astronaut suit. He is from planet Vert and here to save the world with vert coins! He will save the world by saving jobs and making you richer. The financial system needs to be fixed. Vertcoin is the one to do it. Give him a personality. He is allergic to bullshit and sneezes when he hears it. And he likes to dance.

Im sorry, but a cartoon figure is not what Vert wants as a mascot if it wants mainstream acceptability. This is not professional. It worked for doge because it was marketed to the internet crowd. I would prefer to see Vtc as respectable and serious. Our competitors are Btc and paypal, not doge.

I think everyone involved in development should definitely heed what that jtpeters guy is saying. Soon bitcoin as a brand will become known to everyone, by that time there will be many apps and such which make bitcoin easy to use and easy to understand by average consumers, if we are trying to contend we need to not only have a better product but be ready to compete on a marketing level with bitcoin as a brand as well.

i'm wondering about something.
I'm mining on p2pool, current node http://p2pool.etyd.org/
However, i'm also seeing that there are a lot of blocks found in the last hours, when i check my miner i see shares being accepted.
But, i havent recieved any transactions for 8 hours already but in that timespan about 14 blocks have been found already.

Either i'm missing something or i'm not getting payed all the time.
Anyone who can explain?

I agree when trying to promote your product it does little good to do so by simply putting down your competition. Less politics more scientific.

Talk about the features.

Vertcoin needs a good marketer real bad. I am sure most of us have our own views of what will work, but lets be honest.. We are not the target market.

We could move this conversation to Vertcointalk, the marketing section is still empty!

http://vertcointalk.org/index.php?board=21.0

Also I'm not in favour of the 'better than bitcoin' line.

You only get paid if you have shares in the sharechain. Click on Graphs and find your address, you can see a history graph of how much value you had in the share chain plotted over time. If you run less than a couple MH you might try mining on my east node for now, I'm running a test patch to p2pool to lower variance for smaller miners. (Your shares are worth less value but you find them more often, so payments are more steady. You don't make any more/less income though.) Pool link in my sig. (West node is not running test patch.)
