Guys who would like to work on a PP presentation that puts together the most important things about 1) cryptos at all and 2) VTC ?
To bring this 270 pages thread down to the core points and visualize it in some nice manner could be very helpful to those who are new and want to have a fast and informative picture about this. I think it should somehow imply that this is a train you can still get on. Anybody up for discussion? Maybe a few guys in a new thread on vertcointalk.org? I'd definetely make use of such a presentation!

This isn't for a presentation but it does summarise the benefits of VTC in a visually appealing way:

Azure Vertcoin Pool

DDOS reisistant P2Pool Node

http://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171/

To connect to this P2Pool node simply point your miner at:

URL: stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171
Username: Your vertcoin address
Password: Anything

Sample configuration

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://cryptopool.cloudapp.net:9171 -u VbNPoxNeiNg6Bj9RwjjS4GazDbKLgUqNDP -p X

Fast facts

1. P2Pool nodes are all part of one single, big, distributed pool
2. When any p2pool worker on any node finds a block, everyone on all the nodes gets paid their share
3. There is no pool wallet, and hence no payout threshold. Payments go directly to your wallet
4. The distributed nature of p2pool resists DDoS attacks

Decentralize the hashrate!

Absolutely, but don't you think it would be effective to actively approach people, for instance, at univesities? I think there are many people interested in cryptos, but they don't really know what piece of information of the whole load in the internet is important for them to understand whats going on.
You might argue that persuasion only happens on a very small scale compared to internet campaigns. But I think that the people you persuade spread the word and, moreover, I am quite sure this could raise way more attention than one might believe right now.
I am studying at one of Europe's most recognized universities and entrepreneurship is a huge topic here. I think there is a lot of potential for laying foundations with respect to integration of cryptos into newly founded businesses. I could figure out whether I am allowed to hold a public presentation in the near future. Do you guys agree with me or is this a drop in the ocean? Criticism is welcome!

This Cryptsy is a total failure, going to get my VTC out of that asap
EDIT: It would be nice if the major pools would make some news about http://vertcoinmarket.com/, there are big miners outta there who could possibly finance some of the project with just 1 day of mining or even less

join me on BTER

So while on the subject of Cryptsy, I found something a bit concerning this morning and I would like some input to make sure I'm reading the blockchain correctly.

Long story short, I send ~17 VTC to Crypsty on Sunday, but nothing has shown up in my account yet. I checked the blockchain and it says "Not Yet Redeemed" so I put in a ticket with Cryptsy and wait patiently. Now this morning, it shows it has been redeemed, but it is still not in my account. So I check the blockchain again, and it appears that the balance was redeemed and then sent right back out again to a different address.

Did Cryptsy/Someone steal my coins? Seriously, what the hell happened here? None of my other coins on my Cryptsy account are gone or otherwise changed, so it would seriously be the worst hack ever...

Here is the address on the blockchain:

http://explorer.vertcoin.org/address/Vhhcj7PRhDtrpwwj9MQ4rFg74RFASJEpht

Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated...

This is a very early thought/concept: is it possible to setup "exchanges" connected to every Vtc pool? So, the pool will have a bunch of Vtcs sitting in reserves that everyone can see (avoiding mt gox transparency problems).

Miners can elect the percentage they wish to keep and the percentage they wish to make available on the exchange and what crypto they are willing to accept. The percentage made available would be sold by the pool and then paid to the miner in the crypto of their choice.

Over time, miners can also add bank details to accept dollars via the pool/exchange mechanism, to sell Vtc for fiat.

Just an idea. Feel free to point out obvious problems with this setup.  Smiley

That is a VERY good idea. I like it a lot. But how could we make it secure?

This is something that needs to be coded right away. In light of the Mt Gox scandal, we can de-centralize exchanges and re-establish the public's trust.

Bitcoin holders would trade their BTC for VTC in droves. (That will be good for 3 weeks until a new decentralized exchange comes out for the new kid on the block.. no fun intended)
With regards to Lloydie's suggestions, I think multipool.us already offers something approximating this arrangement - you mine, choosing what coin, then later you can convert it into BTC.

However, it's a massive leap to go from running a pool like this, to running an exchange for fiat. Any time you interact with fiat, by nature, you're playing it by their rules, and that means regulations and paperwork - most pools (especially the smaller ones of which Vertcoin has correctly encouraged a plurality so far) won't be interested in taking on, or capable of handling, the hassles associated. "Decentralizing exchange to fiat" is much easier said than done; you can't code your way out of this, because what's stopping it isn't a computer problem, it's a regulatory one.

I think we were just talking about an exchange like most others, but decentralized. (The VTC for fiat would come later, if at all)

We can start out with VTC/BTC and go from there

To the people having issues with Cryptsy!

I just saw this article on Coindesk, looks like the issue is someone is doing a massive attack on exchanges right now.

It was just a matter of time before this stats happening, what our devs need to focus on (and I believe they are) is keeping vertcoin ahead of the others with new features, and at the same time, community has to do its part in promoting our coin

we should be flattered by this imo

When will wallet for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS appear ?

I'd highly recommend just building it yourself. We release Windows binaries because it's tough to get the build environment right and people on Windows are generally happy downloading binaries (otherwise known as taking sweets from strangers) - which reminds me actually, I must get the gitian build process docs finished so there is less trust requirement in the Windows build process.

However on Linux, there's absolutely no reason not to just build from source - https://github.com/vertcoin/vertcoin/blob/master-0.8/doc/readme-qt.rst tells you exactly how.
